So Im playing my first MMORPG...

First tragedy, then farce.
allways wanted to play one, but not for 12 bucks a month (not because the price is too high, I just didnt want to pay for something and then hate it).. so when Anarchy Online went free for a year I decided to finnaly try one out. I know its not as good as some others (WoW) but Im having a good deal of fun with the game nonetheless.

I was wondering, what exactly seperates a game like WoW from this? does it do things completely differently or is it just tweaked a bit? Does it still rely heavily on quests that are loaded into dungeons (this for me is a good thing)?

Also, is it a common problem in all MMORPG's when Im killing some monster in an open field and trying to get some experience points that a group of big burly people charge in and destroy it so that I get a lovely message that says "You didnt do enough damage to get and EXP". Asshats.

well WoW has a pretty intergrated quest system, they are both similiar

IE Go explore north, kill X amount of Y , Loot X amount of Y from monster Z, take X item to Y location...... erm yeah

anywho instances are awesome once you get to the levels for them 20 and up usually think of them as like a private dungeon for you and your party while still being able to connect to the outside mmo world.

But ive played EQ,FFXI,CoH,AO,Neocron, Shadowbane, Planetside, DAoC, and Wow is my fav of them all

(altho im partial to cyberpunk so I did like AO and Neocron (fps gameplay mmo) a bit also)

edit: as far as people kill stealing once YOU whack an enemy it doesnt matter if someone else kills it its your kill and your xp and your loot. I love that about WoW

I love that about WoW... I'll be running a long with my cheetah aspect... spy a person right ahead of me fighting something, and then just use raptor strike, causing my character to leap up twirl and give it a hearty smack, all without breaking pace or heading. And it'll have ruined no ones day :)

not only that, it means higher level charachters can help out newbies.. one of the things that PSO gets right. You just make sure the newbie gets the first hit on something WAY over their level and then the high level guys take over... I allways liked that about PSO, it encourages cooperation.

can't someone just then attack a monster run and repeat, so they are getting xp for nothing more than a first hit? only MMORPG i've played was ragnarok.

It doesn't work that way in WoW. If a high level whacks a mob for you, the xp awarded can be lowered. Also, a high level (I don't know the exact level difference) can't buff a low level.
