So it's nearly Halloween; what are the good horror movies this year?

So it's that time of the year when every streaming service and cinema ends up with a bunch of (probably shit) horror flicks, but whats the good ones to look forward to?


I see people talking about Halloween Kills, but meh, never been into them. Candyman (2021) was ok, but what else is there or has been released this year worth looking into?

I'd recommend at least giving Malignant a shot. But it's definitely divisive with people. I've heard good things about A Quiet Place 2 which I'm going to be checking out this month.

I'm hoping that Halloween Kills is at least ok :p

Halloween Kills will certainly be one to watch. I did enjoy the 2018 movie. It had some flaws, but I thought it was a very welcome return to form for the Michael Myers character.

I've also heard good things about Malignant and James Wan is a pretty reliable director, so I'll definitely be checking that out. The trailers made it look super spooky and unsettling.

I really want to watch Titane, but it's not playing near me.

If you haven't seen The Witch or Hereditary, I'd say those are the best in recent years.

Malignant (hbo max, i thought it was really good)

Halloween Kills is the one I'm looking forward to. I'll try to watch it premiere night.


Others I'm not too sure about : Scream, Black Phone

Better look for something from the 80's or 90's that you might have missed.

Or an obscure, indie release for niche audiences. Could be something good there.

Mainstream horror movies don't exist anymore.

Oh, yes. This is definitely worth a watch. Especially the first two movies. I got heavy Scream vibes from Part One and that is probably what they were going for with the 90's vibe. Maya Hawke was amazing. The second one has a Friday the 13th vibe with the Camp settling. Brilliant movies that are perfect for Halloween.

Nah, Halloween for me has never been about horror slash flicks, but spooky chill stuff like Over the Garden Wall, ParaNorman, Hocus Pocus, etc.

I still haven't worked out how much of Malignant is bad on purpose. Some of it is comically bad but played very straight, I think James Wan knows exactly what he's doing.

It's worth slogging through for the punchline though, a really fucking dumb but entertaining final 20 minutes or so.

We kicked off Shocktober with Creepshow last night, that's always good to get into the spirit, that or Trick 'r' Treat.

Malignant looking wild haha! Susperia 2018 looks like a good flick to watch with a hot gal (and yes, I get all of my horror movie recs from RLM).

Watched Midsommar last night, what in the flying fuck?!

This is both the most beautiful film I've seen recently, and the most disturbing. Skinning a live person (Martyrs) doesn't have any foothold on what I just experienced! This film is legit weird, uncomfortable, and one I won't forget.

I loved this movie. It really divides people but I loved the uneasy vibe it built throughout and there is enough shocks to keep you watching. Performances were incredible also, especially from the lead Florence Pugh.

Watched this movie, based on this recommendation. They nailed Mushrooms visuals; however, it was a little too artsy and reminded me of shitty street performance "art." There was a huge anticipation for major events that fell flat in my opinion. The most shocking thing was what happened to the old people. Quite shocked at the high review on RT.

Watched Seance last night on Shudder. Enjoyable little horror flick from Simon Barrett (writer of You're Next and my avatar pic, You're Next)!

Looking forward to seeing Halloween Kills and V/H/S 94 amongst a few others mentioned in here.

I watched Midsommar last year and really enjoyed it.

The Night House is supposed to be good but I've not managed to find it anywhere, yet.

Also if you haven't already, definitely give The Empty Man a watch. The trailer is horribly misrepresentative of the actual film. I watched it on a whim and ended up loving it.

Only one I've seen so far is Candyman and that was surprisingly well done. I'm not expecting much from Halloween Kills. The previous one was not very good.

All Hallows' Eve is good or its spin-off, Terrifier, are both solid horror movies if you like the slasher genre and something not too mainstream.
