Just the very first gunbattle in Jak 3 proves how inept it really is. Enemies coming at you from the back, and to make things more annoying there are four blocks that stop your camera dead in its tracks when you're trying to see what's going on around you. I think that single "room" encapsulates everything that's been wrong with Jak since II. It just isn't designed with fun in mind.

Agreed, man that first arena fight sucked donkey butt.

Almost. If only it had vehicles and Jak spouting angsty bullshit.
But the vehicles is basically the same thing, only you're driving instead of walking...

Like in Jak 3, I just wanted to kick it and dash around on some dunes... but there are "enemy" (are they? I don't even know!) buggies shooting at me and trying to crash my shit, for absolutely no apparent reason whatsoever. And it's just so not fun, just like trying to shoot in that first room.

But the checkpoint race! And mini-games!
Ok, fuck a checkpoint race, seriously. I think the Jak series has actually managed to make me allergic to visible checkpoints.

I didn't mind the only minigame I saw in Jak 3, though. That one on the screen on the black thing with the things. Kinda rhythmish, but devoid of finesse or challenge. I'm a sucker for timing button presses, though...

You don't notice subtle differences like how you're actually able to see what you're shooting at in R&C?

Are you talking about
those training missions where you're trying to get the right ot leave the city?
I thought those were pretty easy actually. Standiing in a corner usually gave you a great aim at anyone coming at you. I liked Jak 3 quite a bit actually. Its my favorite in the series, and unlike the others, actually had a good end boss. The later levels as a whole are really well designed.

I have to admit that the Jak series felt like it couldn't decide what it wanted to be. This is still true after Jak 3. I loved Jak 1 and 2 (tho i got burned out on 2). Jak 3 was pretty so-so overall but i just couldn't stop playing. The story was awesome. I'm definatly a Jak fan.

I really liked Jak 2. I thinking the shocking change in direction helped. Jak 3 was a technically better game but I honestly wasn't as enthralled. I enjoyed it but it failed to grab me the way Jak 2 did. Maybe it was just too many games in a short span of time. I felt the same with Ratchet and Clank. ANyway Jak 3 does not suck, it is a good game not amazing but very good and you could do much worse than spending time with Jak and Daxter.

My issue was with the sheer genericism of said minigame.

Jak 3 = my Game of the Show, E3 2004.

I'd appreciate it if you'd all stop trashing it, thank you.
I would appreciate it if you stopped liking games that suck!

Nah, seriously though, it'd be pretty cool if people could realize that it's ok to like games that technically suck. Hey, look at me, I'm playing through the BloodRayne series right now. Yes, it has wobbly controls, crap level design and the worst animation ever, but I grew up with an older brother with a library of Friday the 13th-ish movies so gushing blood has always been fun to me. Thus, I love taking showers in enemy blood in BloodRayne, even though it pretty much sucks. I realize this massive realization will never happen, though. :(
