It's been suggested before and I'd like to see it:

A Mario game that switches from 2-D to 3-D levels.

I'd like maybe, not collecting stars anymore, instead have more levels.

I think Nintendo will make the next Mario more "fan friendly", just like they did with Zelda.

For all its creative eccentricities, Nintendo still loves money, and if that means a somewhat more "fan pleasing" product, that's probably what will happen in the end.

So I think that will mean bringing back lots of level and environments and probably nicer graphics too and a lot of old-school nostalgia thrown in, with the innovation coming from the new controller (if it is for Revolution).

I was watching videos of some Mario Party Advance games, and it looked nice. It made me long for the older 2D Marios. I'm not sure if Nintendo will make a second 2D Mario with one already coming to the DS. What I'd like to see is a Mario game with a mix of old powerups + any new ones (hats, feather, flower, etc) in a 3D Mushroom Kingdom. It hasn't been done before and if the SA2 version of the very first Sonic level ever is any indication, I'm sure it'd turn out great.
