MS conference? Pfft
I was at the Montreal bell center, with tickets for the best goddamn band on the planet (imo), TOOL. We went there right after work to have a chance to a parking spot without having to walk for 30 freaking minutes, we easily found one, went to heat @ cage aux sports right next to the bell center, 3 pitchers of beer later and only 15 mins before the show, we panicked, hastily paid the bill and didnt even bother for change (10$ tipping youch). Bell center is freaking big right, thats where the NHL teams play, there was a line on both sides that literally circled the place
30 mins later and a huge need of pissing ASAP, we entered, toilet break, bought a T-shirt off one of the guy there who had it on display on him, he had the last Medium t-shirt, he was cool enough to part ways with it. Quickly climb the stairs to our designated place, pick up 4 beers on the way (WTF 36.50$ for that ?). Apparently we missed the 1st part of the show, nobody around picked the name of that band and its not on the tickets so yea.. 15 mins pass by and suddently, they enter on stage
They start with a sound check that really seems like a song but its not, i guess thats what you could call experience, their sound check alone was hyping everyone. Just to give an idea about the place
For a good view of the size
What it the setup was like
cept there's no chairs in the center. Its estimated to fit from 10 000 to 14 000. We were probably in the 12ish range since it was FULL .
They started the show with Jambi, and what an awesome way to start. I dont really remember the order but off the top of my head they played Stinkfist, Pushit, Schism, Lateralus, Flood, Wings for marie & 10 000 days (one after the other since they're part 1 & 2), the pot, Rossetta stoned. Probably a few im forgetting. More importantly, they finished with Vicarious!!!!!
The audience was awesome, one of my favorite moment is when the guitar and bass player left their instruments on stand, but after tweaking a bit with their pedals got some really wicked sound echo going, they left for a small break, in the meantime, like 3/4 of the peoples in the bell center had their lighters up and lit, it was an amazing sight, when the guys went back they were surprised, but quickly joined with their own lighters, thats something that lasted like 10 minutes.
Maynard is a freak, he's the singer, yet he's in the back next to the drummer, his stage was NEVER lit by any spotlights while the guitar/bass/drum were, we just saw his silhouette because there was a giant display screen behind him, weirdo.
Best concert i've ever seen, i dont think i was alone thinking that either, the 10k+ crowd stood up and applauded for 10 minutes at the end, the band members loved it.
Actually i found an image that represents the stage setup pretty much like it was
Insanely good light setup, the stage became part screen too at one time, had some crazy cloud formations drifting all across the stage and the displays. But as you can see, Maynard's way out in the back.
Adam jones is my freaking guitar idol from now on, he's such a good composer
