So uh...companies actually call you back sometimes when you apply for a job?

???
:(

This is news to me, :lol. Usually I turn in an application and never hear from them again. Then pester them until they finally say something along the lines of "we're not hiring" or "get the fuck out of my store". Ok, not quite that bad, but still. :p

Short phone interview tomorrow...then I assume a full interview if all goes well.

AT&T Wireless, if anyone is interested (soon to become Cingular Wireless).

Haha, same here. I've turned in what seems like 100 apps and when I call back or go in and try and follow up on them the person responsible is either gone, sick or will just tell me to go to hell.

On a side note, I suck at interviews it seems. I've been to about 10 and I never got a call back saying they want to hire me.

There's no way you're unemployable in the holiday season. You people must have dildos growing out of your head or something...try a big retail chain. Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart, etc...

One of the first companies i applied for work at, Borders, actually sent me a rejection letter saying that i wa. i was let down, but in retrospect, i wish more companies would actually do this instead of, well, nothing.

On a related note, i was reading a piece in the Washington Post about job hunting. The article stated that late November to early December was actually a good time to start applying and sending out resumes. The idea is that companies (more so white collar positions), especially those who's fiscal years begin in January, will be reviewing resumes and setting up interviews in December for hiring in January. If you're looking for retail, it'll be tough to get in before the end of the year, but it's still worth applying given the number of others who figure it's too late to apply. For those positions, night and weekend availability is important.

no previous work experience at 19 years old is probably a turn off to these companies.

Target is the *only* place that was interested in me, but they wanted me to stay till 1:00AM. I'm a college student, so I don't really consider that an option.

Traditionally applying for a job really doesn't work anymore. I've found that temping is the best and easiest way to take a step towards a great career.
