What is the first cartoon or tv series you can remember when you were young

Stretching the topic. For those who can read French, I recommend this book for nostalgia purposes. Explains 80s/90s cartoons.

Most impactful childhood series for me:

Born in '79 so some of the earliest stuff was Saturday Morning cartoons.

I recall always being upset because I missed out on Saturday Supercade or woke up just in time to catch the ending credits to Spider-Man.

Looney Tunes were a favorite in my family, especially my mom's side so I got a very healthy dose of them along with Tom and Jerry.

The one that took the longest to find out about until the internet age since it didn't last long was the Mighty Orbots. Until that point I recalled the commercial for it and that the big red center robot couldn't impress the two girl robots.

Then Robotech, He-Man, Transformers and Voltron hit and it was like WOW. Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors had an ever moving timeslot so I could never get a good timeframe to watch and it was the same as Dungeons & Dragons.
I remember all those awesome shows back then, Thundercats, Silverhawks, TMNT. Even remember that Sunday slot where they played 15 minute segments of Robotix, Bigfoot and the Muscle Machines and a few others. There are just so many I could list a ton.

Shows that I've now long since heard of but I don't think aired in the Los Angeles area (or at least in a convenient time slot) were Ulysses 31, Galaxy Rangers, Macron One and Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs.

The Real Ghostbusters
TMNT
Jem and the Holograms
Garfield and Friends
Thundercats
GI Joe
Strawberry Shortcake
Care Bears
Smurfs
Transformers
Heathcliff
My Pet Monster
Alvin and the Chipmunks
Inspector Gadget
Beetlejuice

These were some of the cartoons I watched, I have brothers, no sisters, so I enjoy a lot of "boy stuff", I am sure The Real Ghostbusters was probably the first, big Ghostbusters fan here. Saturday morning cartoons ruled, what a time to be alive.

I did not watch many cartoons or tv when i was young because my 2 year older than me brother choose everytime and he only cared to watch football. So no sunday cartoons for poor young me.
First one i remember is watching Cobra with my mum and she had to cover my eyes half of the time because it was too violent or sexual :messenger_grinning_sweat:
I also remember having a japanese Tarzan rip-off where the kid is raised by wolves on vhs (my grandma bought believeing it was the disney version). I watched the hell out of this film.

Earliest I can remember is

Sci Bots:

This was the UK version of an anime called Starzinger

And of Course He-man and the Masters of the Universe

That era was the best for cartoons

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
The Real Ghostbusters
Jem and the Holograms
She-Ra Princess of Power
Super Mario Brothers Super Show
Thundercats

Not completely sure. It is either one of these :

  • Teenage mutant ninja turtles
  • Super mario brothers super show( I guess this is what it was called since the person above me called it that)
  • he-man
  • bugs bunny
  • captain planet
  • carmen sandiego

I'm pretty sure tenchi muyo is one of the first anime I ever watched since I checked it out of the library. I don't even know how I got into dragon ball? Probably library as well. That library had like ghost in the shell, akira, aeon flux, and some others I can't quite name.

I think it was the 80's TMNT cartoon. I remember watching it in our living room, I must not have been older than three. It was presented with subtitles only, and I couldn't read yet, so I had no idea what was going on. But I had fun. I can only remember the intro and end credits from it, though.

I'm fairly certain that it was Doraemon 1979, the Shunsuke Kikuchi score still hits hard to this day. Both it and the 2005 reboot remain my favorite anime ever.

I'm actually curious about this. It surely didn't air in Canada, right?
