My Way

Let me guess, all you Republicans who screamed and cried "Flip Flop" over John Kerry just see this as an necessity right?

Sure, I understand that this is just an option, and one that the "Bush" may not go with, but the fact that it is a consideration is right out crap.

"Bush would never raise taxes..."

quite a role.

Nope. I don't think we should have social security at all. I know I'll never use it. Old, archaic safety net that's now unsatisfactory to even allow elderly to purchase their monthly medications, let alone food, etc. Rubbish system that should be totally overhauled. But if you whiners want it, yeah, you probably need to raise taxes. I mean it's a bloated government program, how else do you fund such things?

Shit - if anybody here is making more than $90k annually; PM me your home address and your work schedule. I need to make some money fencing shit on eBay. :X

I'm surprised Bush would stick it to his rich friends that way, but I don't see any problem with exploiting the American financial caste system in a way in which the wealthy no longer get off scot-free.

Eh, article only mentions increasing the social security cap above 90,000. Sounds like a good idea, and one that only affects people above the $90,000 cealing.

Okay, you've said before that the political climate on this board prevents you from reasonably discussing policy issues. And multiple times you've singled out Social Security as something that should go. But you've been so brief that all I can tell is that you think it's "bloated," among several other pejoratives. I really would like to know what you think is wrong with SS, and what you think a proper alternative would look like.

So tell you what. If you start a thread about SS, I will personally enforce it to keep out any trolling, insults, or general snark, so that you may freely share your opinion. How about it?

PS Uncapping FICA = good. Raising FICA = bad. Amazingly, Bush is said to be considering the first, though I'll believe it when it's proposed in the Senate.

haha, as long as we're on the topic of Bush 'flip flops', I should throw in the VA tax hikes and the cut to veteran benefits as well that's supposedly tied in with his ideas on increasing the death benefits for families.

Real smart. Give the 1400 families who've lost someone in Iraq an extra $2000. It looks good, so when you turn around and start taxing the people that live through that shit (the other 200,000 or so) even more, everyone will look the other way.

I swear Bush isn't this smart. It must be Rovey's doing.

SS was never ment to allow people to do those things alone. It is supposed to be a suppliment to your own personal savings, not something you can live off till you die.

I think that raising the cap (which is NOT the same as raising the payroll tax) is a good thing. Actually I'm not opposed to there being no cap at all as it resolves a considerable amount of the social security woes and makes the system more fair from a 'pay in' perspective.
