So what happened to "Black?"

It will be shown behind closed doors at the big E3 show.
Lame. It was shown behind closed doors at the last E3. Devs should learn how to keep cool shit under wraps, there's no good surprises in gaming anymore. I wouldn't even mind if we found out about the game ahead of time, but it's hard to maintain interest in something that we find out about like 2 years ahead of street date(I'm thinking Half Life 2 here, not that it wasn't spectacular, but by the time it came out I almost didn't care anymore).

HL2 would've been quite possibly the most perfect execution ever, if it shipped when it was originally supposed to, as was as amazing as the final product. But, alas.

"Black" game of the show E3 2005.

Mark my words :)

According to some rumors, there is a Xbox360 version aswell as the PS2 and Xbox versions.

Due on the PS2 this Christmas. This might be a timed release with the Xbox version hitting in March '06.

Criterion have been working on this game since 2001, it started development a little time after Burnout. Edge magazine visited Criterion when Burnout was still called Shiny Red Car and was without a publisher, they talked about Airblade and another mystery title that Criterion were very tight lipped about. When I visited Criterion in March '03 they were very excited about 'Black' and were still keeping things very secret and wouldn't let me know the title.

The thing about Criterion is they love the PS2 hardware and want to squeeze as much out of the system as possible. They want to be the best. You should expect "Black" to blow away every other console FPS, except perhaps the Halos.

Remember, this is a game where every bullet counts. Every bullet will have an effect on the environment. Every bullet fired will bring a grin to your face.

Just think of how speed is at the centre of Burnout. The bullet impact is at the centre of "Black". This game will have particle effects that make ZOE2 look tame.

Graphics better than Burnout 3, physics and environmental interaction better than Half-Life 2. Not sure that story and AI will be any good, but just firing your gun will be more fun than any other FPS, the same way hitting the boost button in Burnout creates a rush more exciting than any racer.

If they can take the sensation of firing a gun in Riddick and multiply it by 10, I will sex this game up for a very long time.

AWESOME. *bows to Criterion*

I hope some info, screens, vids leak out of E3. Halo 2 was behind closed doors, but we still got leaked stuff. Teddman, if you're out there, you know what you must do :P

Aww, still angry that Burnout 3 didn't come out on the Cube?

The game was supposed to be really high on the violent side, I hope EA doesn't screw this up because of the "family policy"

I doubt it, look at Def Jam Fight for NY. That game isn't tame by any stretch of the imagination.

I wonder if this game will have that same feeling of playing when you fire your FF Machine Gun at the Crisis Zone arcade machines.

Cut Oli some slack. That was 100% PR postage and it was so obvious that it's actually insulting.

Considering how little info we have on the game, does it really matter? PR or not, new info on it is fine.

That read like a bad PR piece and you know it.
I have my PS2 for non-Cube stuff, too.

Haha, I know. But I'm still excited to see if Criterion can bring the intensity of Burnout to an FPS game. We haven't heard anything about this game in a year, I'm DYING for new info.

Nothing wrong with some new info, but that just wasn't your average posting prose style.

No, it's Nick's posting prose style. Sony should hire him for PR, given the amount of enthusiasm he's shown for PS2 games on various forums for the past four or five years, but he's just a gaming enthusiast. Remember them?

And Black is the dumbest, funnest dumb fun imaginable.

Except for where he acknowledges that he has no idea whether story or AI will be any good. PR bots really go out their way to acknowledge potential weak points, don't they? His post is simply enthusiastic about what he has seen. Oli of all people should be able to identify with such enthusiasm.

Here's the only screen of it so far

I only hope for 2 things content-wise. 1) That's it's objective based (like GE) and 2) You vs. Humans (I HATE fighting creatures/aliens/animals/what have you. Humans only plz).

This hits the nail on the head and describes me perfectly.

Trawl my posts if you don't believe me. I love video games, and for some games like Black, Shadow of Colossus and 24 I am extremely hyped.

I very rarely write posts critising games or trolling.

I like to share my positive thoughts on things I enjoy and am looking forward too.

The only thing I hate is driving games that don't run at 60fps. I will rip into these until the end of time.

I've been raving about Black since Fall 2002, when I first visited Criterion.

It has been my pick for every E3 since 2003, but the game never seems to be shown on the show floor. So, this year maybe I will finally be proved right :D

Remember to try and hook up with Sinbad or another c-lister on Black, too. They're less likely to give you shit if you're hanging with someone famous or marginally famous.
