please don't tell me it's still at 70 million, because that's like a year old... they've got to be at something like 80+ million, yea?

and then what's the total console userbase this gen, not counting GBA?

~15-16 million Xbox
~14 million Gamecube
75~80 million PS2

+
10-11 million Dreamcast

am I close to right?

whatever the case, and excluding DC, the PS2+GCN+Xdude are over 100 million now :D

PS2: 74 million
Xbox: 17 million
GC: 15.5 million

All estimates, all probably pretty accurate.

Wow, I was way off for the PS2.

As of 9/30, the PS2's userbase was 74M. It was revealed as 71M at E3.

I thought Sega only made a total of 10M DCs?

Does anyone have old numbers like NES or SNES sales? I'm wondering of the NES or SNES may still be the best selling consoles of all time. Sony is sure approaching it i guess.

The console market was much smaller back then (especially in Europe, which was dominated by the C64 and Amiga).

oh shit.... so the PS1 is the best selling of all consoles... oh shit....

Before: Nintendo = videogames
Now: Sony = videogames

I'm wondering if Sony will fall on a downward spiral like Nintendo after 10 years of domination... Damn this industry is interesting! ;)

I seriously doubt it.
PS2 took almost exactly 4 years to get to 71M, while PS1 took 5 to do the same.
I would think that so far it looks like PS2 is well on its way to eventually overtake PS1 cumulative results also?

Those numbers are from an old Nintendo report iirc, NES is likely closer to 80M worldwide (and SNES 55M). NPD estimates 38M NES units in the USA alone btw.

Mainly in Europe actually, in Japan and America PS1 is about even with what NES managed overall (though obviously it had healthier competition).

I wonder if it will hit 80 million by the end of the year. And PS2 has outsold PSOne at every price point so it could definately outsell it overall. I guess it would depend on when PS3 info starts to trickle out and whether or not people stop buying current systems in anticipation for what is coming next.
