Technotronic - Pump it Up (or level 1 of Streets of Rage)

Y'All Ready for This is one of the greatest stupid songs ever....topped only by the likes of Who Let the Dawgs Out?

What's that song that they are playing on Lexus commercials now? "Run away....run away...and save your life." That's a pretty good one.

Prodigy's Firestarter wasn't totally pop, but is worth a mention. So does Aqua's Barbie Girl.

The entire genre was 'great stupid' -- old hasbeen soul singers laying vocals (and a black British model doing lipsynch in the videos) over poorly-arranged samples and the same 'thump-sss-thump-sss-thump-sss' bassline. Campy as hell, but it was part of my growing up in the last decade so what can ya do.

I was gonna say that the Lexus commercial reminded me how awesome that song was in the 90's

By the way, it's "Runaway" by The Real McCoy.

The Real McCoy? Didn't they have another hit that was even bigger? I remember the name, but I don't associate it with the "Run Away" song.

Oh, and who can forget Haddaway's "What Is Love? (Baby Don't Hurt Me)"? A Night at the Roxbury was great.

Does Ace of Base count? Their big singles weren't totally techno, but a lot of the tracks on the album were. C&C Music Factory was another big name.

JX - You belong to me - awesome song!!
NTrance - Set you free - ohhhh ohhh yeahh!!
La Bouche - Mr vain
Technohead - I want to be a hippie
e-zee Posse - Everything starts with an E
MN8 - Ive got a little something for you
outhere brothers - boom boom boom

their other big hit was "another night", very cheesy but endearing to me because of nostalgia.
"da funk" by daft punk is hot, i got the saint soundtarck back in 1997, the whole album kicks ass. later i bought daft punk's homework, which overall wasnt as good. discovery kicks ass though.
also "music sounds better with you" by stardust is fantastic as well.

Various tunes by Snap and The KLF.
Haha forgot about them. The KLF vid was awesome, some dude from the future is dialing numbers on his cellphone just to tell somebody on the other line "KLF IS GONNA ROCK YA!" Greatness.

"The Hitman" by AB Logic
pretty much anything by AB Logic or 2 Unlimited
Ace of Base
Real McCoy
Corona

There was a tune by Black Box doing the rounds on the charts at the time... don't know the name, though. Very catchy as per usual with this stuff. Ahh, memories...

wasn't that 'ride on time'? or something like htat.. where the woman was standing on a crane!

Ooo good thread. I like to drop a couple oddball pop/house tracks into my sets. Lately it's:
"I Got My Education"- Uncanny Alliance
and
"D'ur D'ur D'etre Bebe"- Jordy

WHAT IS LOVE?!?!? BABY DON'T HURT ME, DON'T HURT ME, NO MORE

In all honesty though I actually really like that song. I think it is the absolute perfect song for its genre and what it was trying to achieve. Its like the vocals are over the top cheese, but you love them for it. The beats are synthy booty-shake bait, and I take the bait every time. For as maligned as its been (Night at the Roxbury etc), I think the song is fantastic and it makes me wish I hadn't so taken it for granted during its contemporary period.

*bobs head a la Will Ferrel*

2 Unlimited - Twilight Zone
Amber - Sexual
ATC - Around The World
Vengaboys - We Like To Party
Rednex - Cotton-Eye Joe

And though they aren't pop-house, I regularly spin both Aqua albums and several Ace Of Base albums (especially The Sign and The Bridge) in my CD player.

There's another song that's currently making the rounds on TV adverts. Can't remember the title....it's something about a "party bus" that's coming, and uhhhh....you should hop on it or something. I think it's an ad for one of those internet travel sites.
