WOMEN'S FOOTBALL KICKS OFF 5TH SEASON APRIL 16TH
The National Women's Football Association will kick off its 5th season on Saturday, April 16, 2005. Thirty-six teams from around the country will compete in the 2005 season including several new expansion teams.
The expansion teams include the Cincinnati Sizzle, the Kentucky Karma, the Indianapolis Saberkatz, the Tidewater Floods, the Emerald Coast Sharks and the Milwaukee Momentum. The Sizzle is owned and coached by former NFL Cincinnati Bengal standout, Ickey Woods. "We're excited about these new teams participating this season and think some of them just might have what it takes to compete with our more established teams," states league CEO, Catherine Masters. The NWFA is the largest full contact football league in the world for women. "We are very pleased with the growth of our league and the impressive improvement of the play on the field. These women put on quite a show and we're expecting some great games this season from many of our teams," adds league VP, Debby Lening.
The NWFA will host the World Championship of Women's Football on Saturday, July 30th at the Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, KY. This will be the second year in a row that the Championship has been held at this venue. "This is an impressive stadium and we are very pleased to be bringing our Championship Game back to this venue and the city of Louisville," adds Masters.
The NWFA has also announced that for the first time in the history of the women's full contact football, there will be a betting line on the entire season.
The betting lines will be operated by anybets.com and will have pools for each of the 144 regular season games. There will also be betting pool set up for the play offs and the 2005 World Championship Game on July 30th in Louisville, Kentucky.
The NWFA has been featured in more than 250 major publications and TV networks including the CBS Evening News, The NBC Tonight Show with Jay Leno, The NBC Today Show, CNBC, MSNBC, CNN, Inside Edition, SPIKE TV, BET's MAAD Sports, The New York Times, The LA Times, Nickelodeon, the Boston Globe, The Washington Post and many, many local and regional networks and publications.
The NWFA is also a sponsor of CHIC SPORTS RADIO, heard on Sports By Line and SIRIUS Channel 122, and the Armed Forces Radio Network. Listen for interviews and commentary about the NWFA throughout the season. CHIC SPORTS RADIO airs Fridays at 9pm EST.
