As a lurker I enjoyed reading through his topics and his presence will definitely be missed. Even though I never post nor came into contact with him I still teared up knowing he was taken from this world.

RIP :(

I'm glad my last memory of him was watching him run circles around transphobes instead of some of the unsavory things he was wont to advocate.

Can't believe he never lived to see full marriage equality for LGBT people. :(

He would have loved the newest trans thread. :(

Yeah...it was definitely an uphill battle against an intellect like that. =) Guy whooped me a couple times, changed the way I look at and approach certain topics. If you think about it, he's probably influenced hundreds of people.

Yep.
I just gave up trying to argue libertarianism with him, because he made a pretty darn good case for it.

I'll miss Gaborn,
To me he'll always be more than the guy who posted depressing news. He was one of the few libertarians that I could actually debate with and we'd go back and forth respectfully and even a few times took things to PMs where we'd continue the debates about individual liberty vs. social contracts. I really viewed him as my opposite in many ways. And despite that, and all the debates and jibes we threw at each other we always respected each other, which is more than I can say about, well, almost everyone on GAF.

We used to joke that he and I would have a man-baby and return balance to the force.

In the last year or so we hadn't had many interactions together. I gave up on poli-gaf for the most part and he went his own way but I still had that same respect. I know he knew I respected him because I had told him as much. But I wish I had told him how much.

Yeah. He earned my eternal respect in an argument we were both on the same side though, we were a few guys vs. an entire thread, and his posts were so calm, insightful and to the point...

sounds too crazy to be true. Gabron was cool as shit we talked over AIM a couple of times he was very man. I'm gonna miss his threads. RIP in Gabron

I'm not sure but I think he knew this. I remember him saying he wouldn't see it in his lifetime.

Damn, I mostly lurk so I never got to interact with him but his threads were always a treat, even the sad ones because you always knew you were in a Gaborn thread.

My thoughts go out to his family and to those here who were close to him.

RIP Gaborn.

Did we ever hear back from Stump regarding contacting his family?

Very sad news. Gaborn was my favorite poster here, and I always enjoyed reading his threads and discussions. He made a lot of interesting threads and had a knack for openly expressing his views.

Though I personally never interacted with him, I came to respect Gaborn's ability to intelligently and rationally argue points in more than a few often-heated discussions on GAF. He was one of the members who set an example of what a good and passionate debater looked like, one who could make their points without descending into petty verbal attacks.

I think this says it very well. He took the time to address questions posed to him in a thoughtful and honest manor, and set a high bar for the tone of discussion.

I noticed his absence this last month, and while I was aware of his medical issues I hoped it wasn't related. He will be very missed around here.

27? god damn I'm so sorry to hear that, such a young life... so many lost opportunities to post news here for us. It's like wtf is GAF gonna do now that he's gone?

We should erect some sorta memorial, a thread just isn't enough.

Guh-born.

It's the name of one of the main characters in the Runelords books, Gaborn Val Orden.

That is the why I always pronounced it, but thanks for dropping the knowledge.

I always used to pronounce GAF as GayF, rather than gaffe. I don't think I was too wrong, as gayGAF was and is pretty strong still.

Might try a huge board card type thing depending on how stump's call with the fam goes.
