So, who picked up Tecmo Classic Arcade (Xbox)?

Kumiko Nikaido

Vindication...sweet.

Released: 9/15
Price: $29.99

Tecmo's compilation of arcade titles was just released (and only for) Xbox. The 11 games on this compilation are:

* Tecmo Bowl
* Rygar
* Starforce
* Solomon's Key
* Bomb Jack
* Tecmo Cup
* Pinball Action
* Pleiads
* Senjyo
* Swimmer
* Strato Fighter

Some of you make scoff at the $30 dollar asking price, but Tecmo Bowl, Rygar, Solomon's Key, and Bomb Jan are tops in my book. :)

I fiddled around with some of the games on this collection, and each play as they did in the arcades.

Pressing the "Y" Button in each game pauses the game so you can exit to the Main Menu and choose another game.

The sucky thing about each game is that they are bordered on all sides, and you can only zoom-in to make the image larger and positionally move the whole screen around. So in essence, no full-screen image presentation for any game.... would it have hurt to reprogram each game, Tecmo!? Boo to you!

You can adjust the difficulty, starting lives, etc. in the Options menu before you load up any game, so you can augment to your liking.

A $20 price-tag would have been better.

It's totally worth it for arcade Solomon's Key and Bomb Jack, but I feel really sorry for all the people who will pick this up expecting the NES Tecmo Bowl. The arcade version is completely unlike it.

Well, in Tecmo's defense, porting the NES version would have required somehow wresting the exclusive NFL license from EA, so :lol

I don't know, how exactly would that work? They paid for the NFL license to be used in that particular game at that time. The game persists. This is kind of shady territory, are you insinuating that, say, used game stores selling old copies of NFL licensed games are violating EA's current license? That's kind of the same thing. Well, not really. But Tecmo licensed it for that version of Tecmo Bowl, and...it's still out there.

I'll bump this. Got Temco Classic Arcade last night and spend a lot of time on it. This is one of the better comps out there, especially since it's not the same old rehashed treasures.

There were games that I played years ago that I've forgot about, especially the Phoenix-like Pleids and the likable Pinball Action.

Solomon's Key and Bomb Jack are challenging puzzle games, tougher than normal arcade fare, but enjoyable.

Only game that flat out stinks is Swimmer.

Tecmo could not release the old NES Tecmo Bowls with the NFL teams now. Something similar had to be done with Mike Tyson's Punchout.

Is there any logical reason why this is appearing only on the Xbox? I'm seriously curious about this... it's just a collection of arcade titles, right?

I want to buy this, but there's too much stuff coming out. I'll probably pick it up if it hits $19.99. Anyway, I'm still supporting Tecmo since I just bought Ninja Gaiden Black for the same price. ;)

My only guess is that Tecmo is keeping their releases Xbox exclusive. Shame, because I doubt this title would be BC on 360.
