So he says that to you and somehow you get Nintendo+MSoft next gen? Did he specifically mention Nintendo? To me that just sounds like typical PR.
read above where you posted. I can't say (however) if we was talking about current gamecube or possibly Nintendo's next system, but what would make sense is if MS took the Nintendo software and was able to cross-play that on the Xbox 360. If Nintendo can't sell the hardware to play the software, then do the next best thing. sell the software to the hardware that will get the software to the people.

Personal friend of mine. He worked at HP as an intern for about 2 yrs, then looked for a job over at Microsoft, eventually got into the R&D team, which lead to him being on the Xbox project team of which he is now a part of the "X" Team (internal) that Microsoft has. Obviously not going to give his name since he'd get fired on the spot
Your friend will be fired, it's not difficult to know someone was an intern at HP or not...

but what he told me was: "Sony isn't going to know what hit them this time..... just picture the best of the gaming industry on a single platform."
How about the last time? :lol

So, your friend who happens to work to Microsoft predicts doom for Sony--->insert mega roll eyes here<---- and says "the best of the gaming industry on a single platform" and naturally you assume it to mean gamecube will be backwards compatible with xbox360?

Its not that far out as a good idea for Microsoft and Nintendo, but the past dealings between the two and Nintendo's dealings in general just point to, no, not gonna happen.

I don't think the 360's tray can take CG disk....

bad news: this is a pretty generic statement
good news: your friend didn't get fired because it's too generic

Naturally I assumed that MS would go after one of the most sought after companies of the gaming culture. Nintendo.

That would kind of make it hard to play GC games huh?

That's such a generic statement though. What exactly made you believe it was Nintendo instead of a generic statement. Did he say any comments like 'Maybe Mario is going to be on the XBOX 360!' or sonething halfway obvious to lead you to think that?

It's gonna happen, folks. The industry will be turned upside down.

Sony, Square, Konami on one side vs. Microsoft, Nintendo, etc.

It's gonna be mayhem!

Mayhem? No. Cheaper to own all the systems? Yes.

That's if you disregard the fact that this is INSANE

Wait ... did you just answer yourself? :lol

How many split personalities do you have?

enough to know that people are talking about something that can't happen under the current specs

VictimOfGrief said:
Final specs won't be published till E3 so who knows what to expect at this point.

hahahah current tray means not happening... unless they want to change the entire look of the console... weirder things have happened

This is insane. Everyone's so desperate for any news on the new systems that they're just making up random shit, and people are actually talking about it. This topic is already two pages long, for the love of Christ. This is like the "Nintendo launching Revolution in 2005?" thread. Meaningless, idiotic speculation to fill the void of no official news from the companies.

I'm going to start some new stupid threads, in lieu of logging off GAF and going outside until E3 starts:

"Nintendo + Apple: Revolution to include free iPod with every system?"
"Sega re-joining the hardware race - Desperate, sad fanboy speculation inside!"
"Xbox 360 Backwards Compatible with Windows 3.11!!!"
"OMG WTF? Tony Hawk Underground is OUT ON PC!!!!!1111"

STOP.

Really, what are you talking about? The GC disc is a standard 8cm discs that most every cdrom/dvdrom will accept even if they can't read the format. Is MS going to use cartridges or something?

what makes you think it's Nintendo? that statement he made sounds more to me like he was just talking about some elite 3rd parties. they probably got big some exclusives like Grand Theft Auto, Metal Gear Solid, etc. etc.

This assumption makes absolutely no good business sense for Nintendo, they would never do it. This is bunk IMO.

Yeah, GC isn't selling bad enough already, let's work with MS and make sure no one buys any more GC's after Xbox 360 is released.

Doubtful since I know sony is most likely going to throw a heap of cash towards rockstar to stay on the PS platform.

Alright guys, you got me. April fools, haha, yea, that was pretty good. But the sheer inanity of the threads gave it away - better luck next year.

unlike what most people seem to believe, its not the hardware that makes money.
Its the software. 360 playing GC games would mean more GC games sold, so more $$$ for nintendo.

I also read the statement where an ubi soft employee said that rev and xboxnext have identical specs.
the similar names are awfull coincident
backwardscompatibility with GC would be free, since GC was also an ATI/IBM combo
backwardscompatibility with XBox would mean paying off Nvidea to emulate certain features of the xbox gpu

hmmm that's not the only way to feed a disk...

Doesn't matter. If Nintendo has units just sitting idle on store shelves or in a warehouse - thats a loss, and a significant one I am sure.

Repost:

"We don't seem to know many concrete facts on the Revolution besides its name and partners. I think the chances of a Nin/MS partnership are pretty slim, but not impossible. The clues:

-So many rumor mills hinting at a possible partnership (from IGN to OXM to EGM)
-Revolution = 360 Degrees in one sense of the word
-Microsoft has tried to buy out Nintendo in the past, but failed
-Both companies are using ATI for graphics
-Both companies are using IBM for the CPU
-Xenon tech is like a Super Gamecube in many respects (efficiency, etc.)
-Devs talk about PS3/X360 development; never Rev
-Sony entered handheld market; Nin must counter strongly in home market
-Microsoft doesn't compete in handheld market; could enter through GBA/DS line
-Both companies' home console market share is paltry compared to the PS2
-Both companies have U.S. offices in Seattle next to each other
-MS has made strong inroads in the western "adult/mature" games market
-Nintendo brand still strong in Japan and younger western market
-Both companies' 1st/2nd party games don't overlap much; eerily complement each other"
-"Microsoft" has the letter I, O, and T in common with "Nintendo", whereas they only have S and O in common with "Sony", and likewise Nintendo only has N and O in common

aww fuck... those slot loaders scratch disks to holy hell and back, and also make it really hard to not get prints on them

Personally, I wish DVDs had a case that protected them in general. I am sick and tired of my media getting scratched no matter how careful I am.

Is Blue-Ray changing any of this bullshit? The common user out there is a fucking idiot and they don't know how to properly handle media. Even the most careful person drops stuff as well. This whole "media is exposed to the elements shit" has got to stop. Or every disk needs TDK's new Armor Plated technology.

Media shouldn't be so easily damaged. Remember 3 1/2 inch floppies? Shit was protected by a case at least then. Dropping a flopping on the ground usually didn't hurt it.

Neither Blu-Ray nor HD-DVD plan on using caddies, for the very simple reason that consumers don't want them and they add cost to producing the media. I think we're going to see the new tech being used in the future (the one that can protect a disc from virtually any kind of scratching).

I saw these disc covers you put on DVD/PS2 games, etc that cover thedisc from getting scratched but STILL read the games. I forget who makes them, but maybe you should look into those.

Yeah, but that means I have to pay for them. Fuck that. They need to license TDK's Armor Plating tech.
