Enough of this. Do not create console war bait threads. It’s time to grow up.
Why you should never compare home consoles to portable consoles

PlayStation owners buy more
-games
-add-on content
-subscriptions
-hardly buy boxed games

Switch is getting crushed in software sales despite dominating boxed game charts

WTF? are these worldwide?

I legit thought Switch games were making a killing from the NPD charts.

If you are making a thread like this you should really link to the source.

Does Non Nintendo stuff sell all that well on Switch though?

It always seems like Nintendo consoles mostly sell Nintendo games while sales on other consoles are more spread out through the various big third party franchises (Cod, Fifa, Madden, Assassins Creed, etc)

This makes sense. There are more "big games" on PlayStation. Nintendo stuff sells huge on Switch. Many things sell from good to great on PS.

Nintendo is charging almost nothing for online. Switch has sold 40 million plus fewer units worldwide. Surprise! Sony has made more on games and services!

Pretty sure, by now the PS4 has overtaken the PS2 in terms of software sales?

PS2 around 1,300,000,000 after 10 years?
PS4 around 1,200,000,000 after 7 years? (last time they reported them)

You: Why you should never compare home consoles to portable consoles
Also you: makes a thread comparing Switch to PS4

Your thread title doesn't match your charts. You need to add '& services'

Yes PlayStation users spend more on subscriptions services and microtransactions. I don't think anyone would be surprised by that.

Aren't there like 50 million more PS4 than Switch? Don't that make it quite normal for the PS4 to sell more software than the Switch?
It is actually normal.
PS receives way more games than Switch and it sells more.

Switch is being in the top charts because the key Nintendo titles sells gangbuster.

Wonder whats the % share or Nintendo games on the switch sales.. i strongly suspect those are very different from sony too.

Hopefully this damning indictment will keep the Nintendo fans off the site for a few days at least. The good news is that this means there will be around 95% less posters with anime avatars embarrassing themselves in threads and no more irrelevant games discussion clogging up the front page.

Bravo OP, you did us all a favor.

Yeah, would like to see
- the source,
- would like to revenue by category aka service, mtx, first party sales and third party sales
- Overall profit

Jesus this is some selective and potentially misleading stuff.

First, it's muddying the water mixing software and "services". It gives no breakdown of what is game sales and what is software. Given the disparity in cost between the PS online service and the Nintendo Switch online service that alone creates a large discrepancy.

Physical gives us the closest we have to a game sales split in the form of physical because as far as I'm aware there aren't any services being sold physically. On that we can see that the Switch "appears" to be much healthier than the PS (17% vs 5%) but then we have the digital question which as I mentioned is impossible to distinguish because it's a dirty figure that contains multiple non-game factors like subscription services and micro-transactions.

We really do need a source and a split to understand the numbers at the moment because they mix factors and lack context which makes them very unreliable.

Also this part that you've labelled as "playstation and Nintendo Sales breakdown" doesn't provide a breakdown of one versus the other. It looks like figures for just one company rather than a comparison. Is this taken from a Sony shareholder report? that would make more sense looking at the figures

Basically, we're gonna need a source and some more detail. There is some muddy number malarky going on here and any time something decides to combine services and software into a single figure without making a distinction I'm always curious what they're hiding

This discrepancy doesn't matter, and neither does the fact that PlayStation users buy more DLC. You may as well call the fact that Nintendo never discounts its games a "discrepancy." Money is money and sales are sales.
