Xbox Live Silver for X360 will be free, but unlike online PS2 games, you will not be able to play multiplayer X360 games with Xbox Live Silver....only Gold will allow you to do that...pay to play....

If you're asking me if there's one single quote where someone says X360 is more powerful than PS3 - there is. And it's from ATi. But there's a whole other interview with NVidia too that I didn't quote either, simply because I wanted to focus on the "independents".

There are a bunch of newbie trolls over there who are unhappy with what those devs were saying (despite the fact that amongst what I quoted were positive suggestions for X360). I can't do anything about that.

Personally, I don't give a damn anymore about which is what. I used to defend X360 from the huge amount of flagrant Sony bots here from early in the year to around E3 but some people just will never be reasonable and fall for the hype like sheep (inherently adding fuel to the flame war fire)...... I'm just waiting for the fucking consoles to come out already..... It's all become a bunch of flamers spewing shit back and forth at each other. I just wanted to tell you what was going down over there.

X360 is gonna rock, if you're a Sony fanboy, it's your damn loss, I'm gonna love it. PS3 is gonna be great too, if you only like X360, you're at a damn loss again.

I on the other hand say a big fuck you to all the fanboys who bash anything that isn't their favorite company, and will play on all 3 next gen systems and love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Well, Mark's words sure sound like "RSX is 2x more powerful than 6800 SLI."

But could it be possible that he actually meant "the final cell + RSX setup is 2x more powerful than the current slower cell + 6800 SLI setup?"
 
I tend to take anything Mark says with a grain of salt because of his relationship with nvidia plus I would believe ATI if they say the system is only 2X as fast as the dev kits since they created alot of the hardware in the system.

I agree. I would like to hear what Tim Sweeney says about this. It's not that Mark Rein isn't trustworthy, it's just that he (and Epic, I guess) has such a close relationship with Nvidia that the phrase "grain of salt" comes to mind.

I hope it's true, though. It'd be awesome to have a machine that powerful in my living room. I'm also starting to agree with Ed Fries about Microsoft letting go of the performance crown.

hmmm, did they specify the beta hardware? cause its my understanding that the ruby demo running at ati's booth at e3 had a much more complete GPU then what was in the alpha kits. i wonder if thats what they were referring to?

I enjoy those forums because you have really smart posters there and there are a ton of developers who post there too...

The talk can get crazy technical sometimes but at least those guys REALLY know what they are talking about......

After E3, though, you have all these new posters like faoud and 0pa 0pa who seeming just make up shit and fill the forum with the same tired old troll fodder.

I think this is driving the devs away, which is very upsetting to people like me who look to them for some down to earth commentary on the console wars.....

Like when that faoud fellow was dissing AA on X360 and wouldn't listen to anything of the contrary even when it came from game developers who actually work with the X360 hardware on a daily basis!!!

They need to purge that place of all the dumbass n00bs....

OA took over I believe. There's a bunch of OAers from both forums under different aliases taking over the gaming forum of B3D..........

You can see the frustration coming from the actual intelligent members there from all the crap....

I love reading that site for all the technical merits and discussions from developers and enthusiasts who actually know what they're talking about. It's sad seeing such a great forum such as B3D turn to crap like that from an influx of OAers.....

I wonder how long the good posters will stick around at this rate. The contrast between the monkeys content to spread their assigned fud and the actual intelligent posters is kind of amazing (at least GAF has a nice even curve :)). Like theres two different languages being spoken. I usually take a peak at B3D once a week to see what the valuable tech minded people on that forum are discussing, but unfortunately the ratio between pathetic fanboy nonsense and actual discourse has completely nosedived since E3. It baffles me where exactly all this creepy corprate sycophancy comes from. Bias is a natural thing but what do these sad little dorks have invested so much that they spend this amount of energy on a message board being such utter tools?

You know I liked Beyond3D more back in the day. When it was all about GeForce 3 unveiling, pixels shaders, ooooooooooohhh "majic stuff" and all. Humus demos, Quake 3 benchmarks, bitching and whining about 3DMark2003 ... good stuff.

Now it seems it's all about pointless trollfests known as 360 vs PS3, not even ATI vs nVidia, just lots of "lolz ps3 sucks" from console kids.

B3D was always biased in ATI's favor (3DMark sucks, Tomshardware sucks, who needs PS3.0 etc.?) now it's just ridiculous - every PS3 article must be "biased or fake" for them.

The same is happening at Futuremark.com boards - less and less PC talk more and more 360 vs PS3 and 360 >> PC stuff.

n00bs galore.

Maybe I should pay a visit to Rage3D boards.

ATI vs. Nvidia merging into the MS vs. Sony war was like some kind of FUD Voltron for the Internet. Its become this uber machine of relentless cock waving for souless asshat fanboys everywhere. And we're just getting started.
 
I read the article today and that's a pretty skewed set of quotes you pulled out there. In all it was a pretty balanced 50/50% spread of pros and cons for both machines.

Do they specifically mention the Xbox 360 or are they general comments about both machines?

The only quote from a third party not in my original post that makes specific reference to either system is Molyneux's on the inside cover - "they're the same, power doesn't matter etc." - (I NEVER usually read that intro in the front cover hence its original absence). There is in fact another SNSystem quote that is comparative between X360 and PS3, but it's not out of line with what they were saying elsewhere.

If there's a third party comment re. tech that makes specific reference, comparative or otherwise, to either or both systems that I'm missing, feel free to share it.

I could not type out everything, so I decided to simply post 3rd party comments relating to the systems' tech, as I felt they were more useful than the nvidia vs ati stuff, and edge's own commentary.

If I'd wanted to "skew", I think I could have done a better job..

I don't have the article but we have all seen what happens when nVidia makes comments about X360 and when ATI makes comments about PLAYSTATION 3...

I dont think ATI is a good source for PS3 information and I don't thing nVidia is a good source for X360 info...

I really don't think there's much of a problem over gofreak's posts and any belief of a "leaning" he holds is fallicious outside of smearing him or furthing ones own biased beliefs. Besides, 98% of the posters you're referring to would be beaten out by a monkey randomly hitting the keyboard in producing an intelligent post.

Oh so we're having all our developers running with crippled h/w just for the fun of it, even though we're a few months away from launch :lol (as if this was their first console, or a rushed upgrd.. heheh.). Custom sli supah uber devkit h/w at least to show most of the first party killer apps wouldn't have been so uberly impossible, I would think.

If the ati comment's for real, and judging from the devkits used so recently, it'd seem to indicate the stuff we've been seeing is representative of what's gonna be available at launch only with better iq.

25% or 50%, its still got a ways to go either way, I'd say they are confident that there will be at least some visually striking titles at launch (PGR3...).

Well, normal system bandwidth is afaik, 60GB/s PS3, 22.4 GB/s X360.

Where do you see that MS was bs'ing, just out of curiosity. The guys from Epic seemed to agree. Besides, MS never said 25% to my knowledge, they said 30%. Developers also seemed fairly confident that it was around 25-30% final speed at the time, so I'm curious why you say they're bs'ing.

The overall impression that we have with developers is that everyone perceives the PS3 to be slightly or significantly more powerful than 360. That's going to make quite a difference, since everyone's pushing high def so hard. High def means a lot more pixels being drawn, a lot more throughput, so that little bit more power PS3 has could be quite significant.

As stated in the original post, I intended only to quote developers, not Edge and..ATi/NVidia. The whole point of the thread was developer quotes. None addressed bandwidth or AA on X360.
 
I finally got the latest Egde a few days ago and the next gen article was quite interesting. One thing I noticed is that they say that the whole Motor Storm PS3 demos was CG done by a specialized CG studio using most likely assets done especially for this video. They did not have any official confirmation, but they sure seem quite sure of themselves.
To be fair PGR3's trailer also was 100% CG without using any of the game's assets (or maybe they used the cars? Not sure)

It means (if Edge is 100% right) that the final game could have *nothing* in common with that trailer. Just like PGR3 won't certainly look at all like the E3 trailer (especially because of the lighting/time of day used in the trailer)
