Thought this would be interesting to share, for film and music fans alike.
And also because I'm a Malick fanboy.

Pics of various musicians (via Pitchfork).

And here's some more new images of the already announced cast (Ryan Gosling, Rooney Mara, Michael Fassbender, Natalie Portman), courtesy of ETOnline.

Here's the new details (from the full credits), courtesy of Pitchfork. Spoiler tagged some details on certain scenes.

Lykke Li plays Ryan Gosling's ex-lover and the two of them perform
Bob Marley and the Wailers' "It Hurts to Be Alone" together, in a version produced by Nigel Godrich.
The Black Lips play Rooney Mara's band, and, yes,
that scene where Val Kilmer chainsaws an amp while Mara plays guitar on stage with them at Fun Fun Fun Fest is in the movie.

Dana Falconberry plays Rooney Mara's sister, and Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears play a band getting their record produced by Michael Fassbender's character.

Iggy Pop, Patti Smith, Red Hot Chili Peppers, John Lydon, and Alan Palomo (Neon Indian) all have speaking parts, playing themselves. Diplo, Tegan and Sara, Florence Welch, Big Freedia, and Spank Rock all also make appearances in Song to Song.

An unreleased Patti Smith song called "God Running" appears in Song to Song, and the film also features music by Die Antwoord, Bob Dylan, the Plasmatics, Julianna Barwick, Meredith Monk, Gyptian, Sharon Van Etten, and more.

Arcade Fire, Iron & Wine, Chromatics, Christian Bale and Fleet Foxes were cut (RIP the scene of Bale playing bongos with Fleet Foxes).

Synopsis of Song to Song (premiering this Friday, March 10th at SXSW, releasing March 17th):

Set against the Austin, Texas, music scene, two entangled couples - struggling songwriters Faye (Rooney Mara) and BV (Ryan Gosling), and music mogul Cook (Michael Fassbender) and the waitress (Natalie Portman) whom he ensnares - chase success through a rock 'n' roll landscape of seduction and betrayal.

damn shame Bale and Arcade Fire were cut.

This is sounding interesting, following couples is pretty standard for Malick but all this popular (well, indie popular) music and celebrity is pretty new for him. I'm excited.

cutting major actors takes time

Hyped.

Still waiting for that 5 hour Thin Red Line cut with Mickey Rourke, Bill Pullman, and more Adrien Brody.

Movie's a masterpiece how it is, but like The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, I'd love to see what was cut.

Viggo Mortensen and Gary Oldman too. (actually apparently they didn't shoot their scenes, just read for them)

there's a crazy amount of talent in there that was cut. Glad clooney got his little scene in tho.

Of all the names listed there, Arcade Fire and Chromatics were the only ones I was interested to see. :lol Oh well.

Sorry for the bump, but here's some more info:

Trevante Rhodes (Adult Chiron in Moonlight) on being in the film:

Interviewer: You've done Burning Sands and you finished Horse Soldiers, but you're also worked on Terrence Malick's Song to Song. I know you've said you aren't even sure if you made the final cut, but it was still one of the first films you worked on. What was it like working with Malick?

Rhodes: I did that back when I was still in college in Austin. That was the first thing I had lines in. Working with Terry was really unique, because he knew my name. I did two days of work, and he came up to me after both days and said, "Thank you Trevante for your contribution." He was really soft-spoken and I didn't really know the gravity. Fast forward five years and everyone's talking about how amazing the film is, but I didn't understand the levity and context of the moment at the time. I hope I'm in it, because I'm working with Boyd [Holbrook] and he had like a week on Song to Song's set and feels the same way. We're crossing our fingers right now, but that experience was really unique. It set the tone; that's really where I got the acting bug.

Rare sighting of Malick:

And a cool poster:

Some new clips (via Twitter, vertically shot) as well: (this, this, and this)

Not really a Die Antwoord fan, but I caught their performance during ACL 2012, and at some point Natalie Portman made an appearance on the edge of the stage. I later found out she was there to record a movie, along with Ryan Gosling and a couple other people who had been spotted.

I guess this is that movie.
