You must be crying a whole lot while listening to the radio. You should make that a list of the worst sappy songs ever.

Hah. :D It's already been established that I'm a sap, and, really, I couldn't care less about who does or does not enjoy the same songs I do. :) (just as I never comment on others' musical tastes) Spare me the elitism-- you're not as good at it as Bell Woods or drohne anyway. ;) :p

Besides, like I said, they don't all make me cry. They're just my favorite "sad songs." And when I do tear up, it's just a case of misty eyes-- I never bawl. After all, I'm a man's man, and have a reputation to uphold. ;) :D

Only one song has truely made me cry and that was Bruce Springsteen's Thunder Road and perhaps Bob Dylan's Oh, Sister.

They are pehaps the only two artists that carry the emotion in their voice so that I can pick it up, most othere artists I feel it forced (see Bono) and hence can't react as much.

Edit: In My Life almost makes me cry and he is another artist who has the ability to carry emotion true in his voice although most of the time he sounds like he doesn't care or want to.

i just skimmed the thread so i could've missed it, but i'm surprised to see no mention of "Cats in the Cradle". Probably one the most tearjerking songs ever for me, slightly above "Tears in Heaven".

"Rei's 1" from the Evangelion soundtrack is another one, simply because it was playing as i broke up with my girlfriend at the time.

I wish there was something you would do or say
To try and make me change my mind and stay
We never did too much talking anyway
But don't think twice, it's all right

Radiohead: Fog

There's a little child
Runnin' 'round this house
And he never leaves
He will never leave
And the fog comes up
From the sewers and
Glows in the dark
Baby alligators in the sewers
Grow up fast
Grow up fast
Anything you want it can be done now
How did you bad?
Did you go bad?
Did you go bad?
Some things will never wash away
Did you go bad?
Did you go bad?

Artist: Brad Paisley
Song: He Didn't Have To Be
When a single mom goes out on a date with somebody new
It always winds up feeling more like a job interview
My momma used to wonder if she'd ever meet someone
Who wouldn't find out about me and then turn around and run

I met the man I call my dad when I was five years old
He took my mom out to a movie and for once I got to go
A few months later I remember lying there in bed
I overheard him pop the question and prayed that she'd say yes

And then all of a sudden
Oh, it seemed so strange to me
How we went from something's missing
To a family
Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

I met the girl that's now my wife about three years ago
We had the perfect marriage but we wanted somethin' more
Now here I stand surrounded by our family and friends
Crowded 'round the nursery window as they bring the baby in

And now all of a sudden
It seemed so strange to me
How we've gone from something's missing
To a family
Lookin' through the glass I think about the man
That's standin' next to me
And I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

Lookin' back all I can say
About all the things he did for me
Is I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be

Yeah, I hope I'm at least half the dad
That he didn't have to be
Because he didn't have to be
You know he didn't have to be

This song catches my breath and gives me teary eyes. IT brings forth warm, happy feelings of family and a brighter world.

I heard this for the first time while working at Target in the backroom thanks to 89.3. It's not a good idea to have a sorrowful epiphany while on the clock. I just had to drop what I was doing and listen.

It's quite possibly the most beautiful thing I've heard and yet so full of sadness.

There's other crap. I just can't think of it at the moment and Shuffle kicked this one to the fore.

Edit: Oh yeah, Iron Maiden's Flight of Icarus also hits me where I live. :(

For some reason Weezer's 'Perfect Situation' hit me really hard just before I broke up with my gf. Then again, probably any seriously minded love song would have. Good thing I wasn't listening to Butterfly.
