What songs bring a tear to your eye no matter how hard you try to hold it in.

Whether or not it's due to the subject matter of the lyrics or haunting instrumentals. I know sometimes the perfection of some songs gets me teary eyed.

My Sweet Lord - Harrison
Across the Universe - Lennon
Yesterday - Mccartney
Hey Jude - Lennon/Mccartney
Changes - Black Sabbath

Are you ever going to post an orginal topic? Christ.

I agree, Yesterday is one of those songs.

While not exactly bringing tears to my eyes, these two songs are quite sad, lyrics-wise:

Butterfly Kisses - Forgot the artist
Dance with my Father - Luther Vandross (though Celine Dion's performance at the Grammy's 2004 was even more emotional).

They might be "pussy" songs, but sometimes I like the odd slow song.

My Sweet Lord - Harrison
If that's the song i think it is, it's almost tear-inducing.

Only song literally made me cry was Rei I from the Evangelion OST (can't remember the offical name). i broke up with my girlfriend at the time, and i remember that song was playing at a pivotal moment of the breakup in ol' Winamp 1.x.

I don't mean to alarm you but you have dogs on your face
Elliott Smith - Waltz #1

for various reasons, I suppose. One the lyrics are kinda sad and I can kinda relate to them, but also because melodically it's an incredibly somber song, and listening to it just makes me a bit depressed. It also helps that it was actually the song I was listening to when I read that Elliott Smith had killed himself. Whenever I listen to this song I think of that, of why the fuck one of my favorite musicians had to kill himself like that, and just hearing the song puts me in a bit of a blue mood.

You guys are gonna laugh but mine is:

Wind beneath my Wings

There is a reason though:

They played it at my teachers funeral when I was about 13. Since then everytime I hear it, I think of that. She died suddenly in car wreck and left 2 kids and a husband behind. So that song takes me back to that time.

Tears in Heaven is another really sad one.

Good tune, though I rank Condor Ave, Pitseleh, and Bled White above it. Smith was awesome. Now for a few more songs...

Ryan Adams - Dear Chicago
Butch Walker Take Tomorrow (One Day At A Time) <----- Live versions always make me weepy.
Jeff Buckley - Morning Theft

lets not shit ourselves (to love and to be loved) by bright eyes makes me sad when he gets to the part about being in the hospital with his dad, but not really teary eyed. also, sleepy california by her space holiday when he gets to the part about his grandma dying.

THAT'S IT, THAT'S THE LIST

The lyrics to this song also get to me (it's about a friend who has cancer.)

Butch Walker - If (Jeannie's Song)
All alone in your dirty chair, washin' all your dirty hair,
and you're wonderin' how long 'til they come for you.
Watch the lines form on your face and down the block all the people chase
just what you were after, before this happened to you.

And if I could be the chains, I'd fall from you and let you fly to the angels
If I could be your pain I'd run from you, so far away.
If I could turn the time back just one day it might just be enough to say
All the things I never said to you.

Make the plans to fall in place, only to fall behind in the race
and you can't keep up and I know that it pisses you off.
And your roller coaster climbs the hill, up and down, it sure does feel
a bit too much. Are you ready to get off?

If I could be the chains I'd fall from you and let you fly like an angel.
If I could be the pain I'd run from you, so far away.
If I could turn the time back just one day, It might just be enough to say,
all the things I've never said to you.[to you]

And what you don't know won't hurt you.
What you don't show will kill you.
What you don't know won't hurt you.
What you don't show will kill you

And what you don't know won't hurt you.
What you won't show will kill you.
What you don't know wont' hurt you at all.
And if I could be the chains I'd fall from you and let you fly like an angel
If I could be the pain, I'd run from you so far away.
If I could turn the time back just one day, It might just be enough to say,
all the things I never said to you. [to you]

Never said to you.
[What you don't know won't hurt you]
[What you don't show will kill you]
[What you don't know won't hurt you]
No, No, No, [what you don't show will kill you]
Never said to you,
to you,
to you.

Led Zeppelin - "Stairway to Heaven"

My cousin committed suicide and we played this while burying him, as he was a huge Led Zeppelin fan. I have a hard time hearing it now without thinking of him.

You have not cried properly until you have listened to Randy Travis' "Three Wooden Crosses." Fuck me, there isn't any song that comes close to that in terms of the leaky eyes factor.
