Sonic Generations was released in 2011. Your post is 14 years late.

Bonus tip for you: you can buy the Xbox 360 disc for less than $10 shipped and play it at 60fps using backwards compatibility.

I had my Xbox 360 disc too.

Again, people need to wait DF to come with thr veredict about this game.

Knowing past SEGA, they go very very cheap doing remasters. Even the most easy one they drop the balls.

Just a warning that the fps boosted version has some bugs in some levels, like of the top of my head one path in Chemical Plant doesn’t work because you can’t complete a hoaming attack chain, it works fine on the PC version or by disabling Fps boost. There’s more but I cant remember which ones.

Frontiers, Murder of Sonic, Super Stars, Shadow Gen are all good or decent !

Nonetheless, i also forgot that Sonic Racing and Sonic Dream Team updates for Apple Arcade are very good as well.

To be fair, the Sonic Boom era is ten years old.

But… This isn’t a remaster, though.

We make fun of SJW outrage culture that go out of their way to find something to complain about, then we turn around and do it ourselves.

Just buy the game if you want to play it, or don't. This isn't worth complaining about.
this i will still grab it but when its cheap just letting fans know if they do not want to support this woke shit.

Does this game still have lives?

Hopefully they have learned with Colors Remastered.
Learned what? Everyone here was talking up Colors and colored remastered as some holy grail sonic game.

Not having played 3d sonic since Sonic Unleased (which I liked), and sonic Adventure before that, it was really lackluster. I didn't get the appeal, it felt floaty on ps4/5 and I still haven't went back.
Sonic frontiers on the other hand had some weight to Sonic and played and felt a lot better. I just wisht the switch version looked better, got it for switch on sale and then got it on deep discount on ps5 as it works much better there.

Colors? Yeah.
Remastered? No. It was a low as effort that changed the original musics for no particular reason, had a very bad launch full of bugs and glitchs, lack of proper attention to the game(theres no sound options), removed the life system in change for what...coins?

Anyone see any Nintendo Switch specific reviews?

I am very hesitant to buy any 3d sonic on switch after the shitshow Frontiers was. That game's graphics were horrible. The dynamic resolution, low res textures and pop-in really killed it.
Although I would love to play this on the oled screen. (my steam deck is not oled and my space is limited there).

I am hopeful that it is better looking on switch as this is a port of an ps3/60 game.

I would love having this on switch, and damn Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 need to get on there too. Only place you can play those is original hardware, Xbox and ps3. An adventure era remaster would be awesome.

Ahh, damn, so that is why I was confused as to the high praise the original got. I guess i should look out on my retro/antique store shopping trips with the wife for a wii copy. Taking away the lives and challenge is a really dumb move. Also any dev who changes up a classic game and doesn't include options to play it like the original is doing it wrong.

I get the concern about it being an old game with a 5 hour add on but the base game is a pack of Sonic levels that hardly ever take more than ten minutes to complete and Sonic fans sometimes go to great lengths to get good levels in a modern engine. It could have been Shadow Generations and not been docked points for including the Sonic portion of similar length we already have (without the new game engine).

I still have the original on my account, so not really sure why I'd get this anytime soon.

I'll get Frontiers 2 day 1. Loved the 1st one.
So do I but this is a much bigger game, though, thanks to the Shadow levels.

Sonic Frontiers was surprisingly good, packed with new ideas. They were not all great, but I liked how they tried so many different things. Boldest 3D Sonic since Sonic Adventure. I'm really looking forward to Frontiers 2!

I've never played it but I heard Forces ran decently on Switch, I also heard the subspace cyberspace levels were okay but you'd know better than me about that one, they can probably make Hedgehog tunnel vision work but forget open world.

I'd also like to know how this runs on Switch, of course we know it ain't gonna be 60 it's more a question is it a complete shitshow or not.

I advertised for Google Stadia
Sonic Generations 2011: 77% (49 reviews)
Shadow Generations 2024: 80% (54 reviews)

Main complaints: OG game is dated compared to Shadow's campaign. The new story is too short.

Sonic Team > LEVEL UP !

2024, year of Shadow, Ichiban and Metaphor.

It's basically Atlus carring the entire Sega though lmao
The trick is that there were 120 Atlus employees before Sega bought them (they were near bankrupcy) and 370 after they were part of Sega of Japan....

So yeah, in 2024, Atlus is stealing the show with...Sega's war chest.

Sometimes, Creative Assembly was carrying Sega (also with Sega's money >Sega cancelled Hyenas but is reviving Alien Isolation... It's not as if they have no influence on their studios: Please remember that Sega is the reason why Yakuza and Persona sales like crazy on PC...without them, Atlus games would be stuck on PS Vita as usual lol...

I paid good money for this Dynex!
I'm really curious what changes they made to Sonic Generations - I absolutely loved that game when it first came out, and would love to revisit it. The Shadow stuff is just a nice bonus, but sounds pretty good from the headlines, at least.

They did nothing to classic Sonic, you still can't just run up small hills. Chemical Plant I could not run up the incline 3 seconds in. Looks good and Shadow portion seems like they improved controls a bit. Also, using Legacy controls because Standard is whack.

Let's not forget Sapporo.
This studio formed with Sega veterans is basically providing support for all Sega of Japan studios.
Plus, ex AM members joined the Division 1 (AM2+RGG) and worked on the very good new Monkey Ball Banana Rumble.

Overall, Sega paid everything for Atlus and Sammy paid everything for Sega since 2004...

Sega Sammy had hard times but decades later they're delivering hard, everything they're touching seems to be gold (Shadow Gen part is the best 3D Sonic Ever, Metaphor is blasting Final Fantasy, Infinite Wealth is peak, Hyenas was a disaster but they got back on track with Alien Isolation 2 🤯✌)

Or you can get the new version that's available on PC, Switch and PS5.

Yknow... platforms that are actually successful.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
So how are you supposed to play this? Get in the original game's section first, then play Shadow's Story or select new game under that or what? Are they totally separate? It seems choosing the Sonic Generations side just loads up the original game complete with older engine version without TAA option in the settings? Is there no way to play the complete game start to finish with say both Sonic and Shadow content, they're totally separate/Shadow's story comes after Sonic though you can play it first or what? Or does playing the Shadow side also take you through Sonic content (with TAA)? It's kind of confusing the way they've done it. I played a bit of the Shadow side (choosing new game and not the first Shadow's Story selection, Idk?). It seems alright though manoeuvrability's an issue as always I guess, they really should just copy Mario and make it a bit faster but more manageable, at least for the levels that aren't racing-like with linear section after linear section, ie the hub world. I see they're still going with the whole human interactions brought in with the first Sonic Adventure, sigh, if only that never happened...

"Nintendo games are like indies, and worth at most $19" 🤡
This game should be talked about more here, it's not just another Sonic game.
If the qualities aren't said, people will think this is like Sonic Boom, Sonic 2006, Sonic Forces when in fact this unpleasant past is in the past.

I might check this out down the line. Zero history with Sonic aside from the early 90s days and then at random I picked up Frontiers due to word of mouth and absolutely loved it.

Could you elaborate on what makes Shadow's campaign so good?
Really tight controls none of the slippery feel like Colors and unleashed. Even the "automated" segments transition seamlessly from gameplay. It's a mix best parts of Generations and Frontiers. I want an entire game of Sonic built like the Shadow campaign. Basically improved formula of Sonic generations.
