Sony alone cannot be market leader

Because they are so arrogant and stupid, just think of the ps3 days. Hell even on ps5 right now we see barely any good first party titles

These companies need the competition from eachother, yes MS has been flailing around like a headless chicken for years, but to hope for MS to fully quit Xbox is like giving Sony the keys to the Mansion and saying "go wild"

Unless you want monthly psn subs to become crazy expensive, Sony not caring about their core players etc..

Competition is HEALTHY for consumers. We WANT these companies fighting for our wallet.

Xbox going under is the result of this competition you speak of. The market has spoken. It's impossible for the big three to be equally successful in todays economic climate. Something has to give.

Not at all, first of all Xbox isnt going under, and they are working on a new console.

Second of all, Xbox did this to themselves, not the competition. PS4/PS5 won due to sheer incompetence on Xbox side

Ninny went their own path of entry lvl hardware back in 2006 with og wii(that had 14W powerdraw), we know how fucked up xbox became starting from 2nd half of x360 gen and kinect push, only got worse after that, so its basically playstation in console space, steam in pc space, thats it.

Other big dogs entering gaming industry have no clue about the business, google stadia and amazon luna are simply disgrace.

Those companies arent stupid, they rather do least they can and not compete vs bleeding eachother out to compete for our money, they are fat lazy cats(kinda like most of western dev studios this gen), they know we got nowhere else to go :messenger_pensive:

Should it be this way in capitalist society and such a competetive area like gaming business? It shouldnt, but we operate on what is, not what should be :messenger_astonished:

Xbox going under is far more due to their gross incompetence than Sony.

People will realize soon enought as happy as they are with a single market leader.

No Nintendo does not compete in the same league

They will be market leaders. And in a comfortable position.

Xbox doesn't feel threatened by what Sony is doing, reverse is also true. Its like a, non spoken arrangement / contract.

Days of cutthroat competition is over. They moved their HQ to ensure that.

Yeah, arrogant Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft are incredibly obnoxious. No matter what company you root for you should always hope that there are others posing a challenge. Without Playstation we wouldn't have had plenty of particular games, same with Nintendo. Xbox brought a lot of innovation in online play to consoles.

What you want is irrelevant
Can you do something, besides writing in caps on the forum? And will anyone in the industry support your wishes?
If answer is No - you just make internet more garbage.

Nintendo and pc still exist and no matter how much some try to deny they are all competitors. Xbox has gone it's way due to their own self created injuries. They don't get pity in the name of competition. If Sony makes stupid decisions, thouse wounds will come back to haunt them. That's competiton and how the system works and should work.

I'm a pc gamer so it doesn't really concern me. But for those rabid console warriors who trade childish blows day after day, I can't wait until you are in a situation where you'll have to fork out $700 for a console and $100 per game in future 🤣

I agree but what's the plan? Bring Sega back? Yes, please.

Easy man
Angry man shouts at the moon never works, FYI
You may think that Sony is arrogant - but it's only your opinion. Somewhat in the line how 80% of forum think live service games are trash and reality just looks pityfull at them.
Crying on the forum is pointless, wishing for some miracle/gandalf/aliens/whoever comes and save situation for you is pointless too.

Its not interesting for major players to enter dedicated console business, mobile and PC are priority for many, and running console business are expensive, risky and profits are not something to dream about. So current situation will be solidified for the time being.

Cmon man, I am not 'crying' at all. I have a PS5 right here, next to my Switch 2 and PC. I don't own anything Xbox at all at this moment in time.

Sony isn't being the most arrogant right NOW, but if Xbox were to completely dissapear they would surely be arrogant as fuck again, no doubt about it.
And consumers would not reap the rewards, instead they would pay out the ass.

Microsoft wasn't entitled to success, and I am not going to feel bad for them after they tried and failed to "Use the warchest to spend Sony out of the business"

The recklessly spending and it all spectacularly backfiring is entirely on them

They've been the market leader for ages, only during the PS3 era was they a bit behind for a while.

I think you mean to say they cant be the only standard home console manufacturer? There can only ever be one market leader unless its a tie

I dont think moving their HQ ensured anything, what happened is the market chose who wins, the only thing that slowed Sony down was the pricing of the PS3

Sony will not be alone.
Xbox isn't going anywhere yet.
Nintendo is still here.
And PCs will continue to encroach on Sony's territory, with SteamOS and such.

I am not an OG console player despite my age but, isn't this only the second time Sony has fumbled in their strategy. PS3 was 2006 and then now 2025/26 of GaaS.

Helldivers PSConnect fiasco or PSVita cannot be paired as industry wide strategy fumble like PS3, GaaS are. Two strategy misfire 20 years apart and people are CONVINCED they are the worse market leader ever and needs competition. Every company does. Better them then fucking Microsoft.

Its just more that I constantly see people wishing for the death of Xbox, when that in fact would probably not be best for consumers in the long end.

You will be paying 100 bucks for PC games in that scenario too. PC game prices have gotten higher with less chance of reduction in recent years. It sucks. And to laugh at a 700 dollar console when a mid range GPU costs more than that is silly. PC is my main too, but it has gotten worse and worse with time and AI has fucked it worse than Crypto.

Nobody is entitled to success, corporations exist to make money, and squeeze as much as possible of it out of their customers.
But when competition exists, the corp has to keep considering the impact of their value proposition, so their customers keep choosing them instead of their competitors; with no competition this goes out of the window, the customers no longer has a similar alternative and have to put up with the corp changing the value proposition for the worse.

Again nobody is entitled to success, but cheering for the death of competitors is nothing but tribalism; as a consumer you have nothing to gain from it.

Well, to be fair, the recent events of competition between MS and Sony were not to gamers best interest either.
MS trying to boost up their 1st party stable has bought way more studios than they should've based on their actual selling power.
Sony did something similar (Bungie, Bluepoint) and decided to chase industrial trends (GAAS) instead of producing unique games which would be the highlight of their platform.
So I would argue that not much of value would be lost here if Xbox would decide to become fully 3rd party and stop making own h/w.

They are not Market leader.
They just lead a specific niche of the Market, namely the couch.
And they are not alone on that one, as Nintendo has always been the runner up. They just don't aknowledge them as they do their own things and their fans are harder to change sides that MMO fans.

Also... Microsoft might be out, but Valve is getting in! The Steam deck proved to be gamechanging when it came to handling their vast libraries out of Windows Desktops, and create a front-end that can give the console experience with minimal to no Mouse & Keyboard requirements. While Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo were trying to make games that play well on consoles, Valve was busy creating the tools to translate existing games into the console experience (and also play every game they ever made the previows generations via emulators). Valve moving towards the couch market is the reason they finally saw them as a threat and stopped releasing their exclusives on PC.

Sony and Nintendo being alone in their respective markets is the worst possible outcome for players. Just look at the shit Nintendo have thrown at us since the beginning of Switch. They are hardly trying. Sony is the exact same.

Only third parties are actually competing for something. Sony and Nintendo don't care. They sell hardware and earn the royalties.

Unless I'm mistaken even having the smallest marketshare, Xbox Game pass is most expensive monthly sub?

If thats how you really feel this thread should be about Xbox fighting even harder to win gamers wallets.
Instead you're actually not happy where gamers spent their money. Gamers in large numbers made Sony (and Nintendo) market leader and you don't like that outcome.

The consumer is always right, gamers already spoke with their wallets. They value Xbox less worthy, its as simple as that.

Everything will inevitably drift towards cloud imo, it'll take time of course. If I had to guess tho any major competitor now will more likely emerge from china or Saudi than anywhere else. The crown prince has investments in many many major studios that can be leveraged into a platform, but more suited would be Tencent, outright ownership of many studios, many domestic studios in china, vast investments throughout western and eastern gaming, they make their own hardware, even making their own chips. Ai will supercharge Chinese competitiveness in game creation, they are fully integrating it into their already cost effective workflows, so they could have a lot of viable exclusive content should they wish. I would expect them to take a more cloud based route tho than a physical console.

the market has spoken time and time again, sony's competition is pc and nintendo, if xbox didnt had microsofts infinite money glitch the 360 probably wouldnt even have existed

Sony is not the market leader lmao.

PC is.

But even if you look at just consoles. PS5 is far from being uncontested. Last I checked NS2 still existed and is selling even better than Sony's machine.

I am excited to see Sony raising the price of everything because they now have that (disney energy)
They are not worried about the jump because the console players really have no other choice.
It might not happen, but I won't be the least bit surprised if it does happen.

The competition for sony now is steam/pc and thats why they are "supposedly" cutting some of their pc games pipeline

MS has too much of a scorched earth mentality/tactics in their business for me to really want them trying anymore, let them stick with software and thats fine by me.
