I LOVE CHINA AND CHINESE PEOPLE AND CHINESE FOOD.

these games are coming out of nowhere and there hasnt been a bad one yet

and they all look amazing. china has made me love gaming again, im looking forward to next gen more than i was this gen because I know they're gonna cook

Exiledge is now on my radar.

This effort predated Hulst and is far more likely to be the baby of the most senior leadership in the company.

It's major investment that well above Hulst's pay grade.
As long as you're fair about this and not the type who gives zero credit to Hulst whenever Playstation does something good but then give all credit to Hulst when Playstation does something bad.

Best part, they're not even region blocking their published games on steam anymore!

Combine that with first day releases, and the chinese market, and these games will likely sell much more on steam than ps.

Is Tides of Annihilation a China Hero Project? Or backed by SIE? That game looked so dope. The trailer debut on SoP knocked the socks out of me.

... I thought it was a joke. Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero.

Okay. Now I see the ZZZ logo. The image quality sucks, I've played Zenless since launch and I can barely make out the characters in the image, so no, it's not a joke.

I dropped Genshin after 2-3 months, so I wouldn't necessarily remember the character designs that well.

Also, why are these all part of "Phase 3"? Genshin launched before anyone had even heard of Star Rail or Zenless.

I thought it was a joke because both happened to be from Mihoyo.
The pic isn't exactly about Phase 3 of CHP, but rather about Chinese development support on PS.

Oh, as in "continued" support since gacha games constantly get updated.
More like third-party support of Chinese developers in general.
Phase 3 of China Hero Project included:
  • Awaken: Astral Blade
  • Exiledge
  • Daba: Land of Water Scar
  • Kroraina (Loulan)
  • Project: Jinyiwei
  • The God Slayer
  • The Winds Rising
  • Unending Dawn
  • Will-less
Apologies.

Also, did ZZZ have a desert/dunes update or something? Or is that a character's dune-colored cape that's flowing to the right in that image?
As shown above, it was from the 1.2 update last year.
Great.
Now do Japan.
Japan doesn't need a Hero Project.

No, I'm not.

Hulst is largely unfairly maligned. Half the stuff people blame him for would largely have come down to him from Totoki-san, e.g. publishing games on non-PS platforms, the GaaS studio investments.

Hulst is head of WWS, so his job is to manage the existing studios. His focus is execution of the business strategy laid down by the senior leadership of Playstation as a whole. He won't have much say in defining the overall business strategy.

You're thinking of "Where Winds Meet" which was announced and shown around the same time as Wuchang. Wuchang got the public attention over WWM. Here's phase 3:

Damn, I see a lot of the big gachas on there (Infinity Nikki, Genshin Impact, Tower of Fantasy, Honkai Star Rail and Zenless Zone Zero). I wonder if they'll offer the same support to other big upcoming CN gachas like Arknights Enfield, NTE and Azur Promilia (all of these are confirmed to receive a PS5 release).

It's their selling point across all Asia so I expect support to continue
WWM is gacha too btw

I don't think I have played yet any Chinese game of this initiative, but adding China is or should certainly add something to games. Some new mechanic, some new tales. There must be some talent in that gigantic pool of people. I'd also like to see India having a similar path. The West trying to tell Asian stories and viewpoints, can also work, but doing it yourself should generally be easier and maybe better.
