Tag, you're it.
"One year after her sister Melanie mysteriously disappeared, Clover and her friends head into the remote valley where she vanished in search of answers. Exploring an abandoned visitor center, they find themselves stalked by a masked killer and horrifically murdered one by one…only to wake up and find themselves back at the beginning of the same evening. Trapped in the valley, they’re forced to relive the nightmare again and again - only each time the killer threat is different, each more terrifying than the last. Hope dwindling, the group soon realizes they have a limited number of deaths left, and the only way to escape is to survive until dawn."

So it really have nothing to do with the game, and no Wendigo I guess.

i think this is a cool idea, looks much better than i thought it would. I'll be on the lookout for a trailer.

Gaffers are no fun as usual.

Or is it just one of Phil's balls in my throat?
The dumbest thing is that they actually had a somewhat famous director as part of the consulting and even as a character in the original game.

Why not just use THAT guy to make an Until Dawn film.

And you don't need to say Amen to everything either. On the surface I would 100% agree, I don't need a 1 for 1 adaptation. But this, has NOTHING in common with the game. Take out Peter Stormare, would you guess it's an Until Dawn movie? Not to mention that Sony has a very bad track record on adapting anything.

They don't need to copy the game, but at least take inspiration from it. And were the fuck are my Wendigos, the BEST part of the game is not there. WTF.

it does, it has the decision making part of the game included, and it has it all occurring in one night.

Why, are wendigos something you'll miss? lol

Ah, so we'll have a controller at the cinema to choose what choice we want? Noice.

Don't try to tell me they are not important. That reveal was awesome and they are a big reason on why people liked the game. Ask anyone what they remember from Until Dawn, 90% of them will tell you "the Wendigos!!"

That's like the worst take about Until Dawn I've ever seen. THE BIG reveal of the game is... not that important.

If Wendigos are not important, please explain to me what IS important.

Well obviously not, but you are the one saying "it has the decision making part of the game included". So please enlighten me on how it is included.

I figured this movie would suck since it's a David F. Sandberg flick, but the video opens with an intro from Gary Dauberman, who's probably an even worse filmmaker. He's writing? This is gonna be terrible.
They're both those sort of passionless Hollywood filmmakers who only churn out generic slop.

Oh please, be my guest!

But who fuckin cares lmao, it's a movie and the 'choices" aspect will be absent no matter how you try to turn it "b-b-but they said in the teaser that... uh... they will die in different ways" Dude seriously. Nobody's expecting them to show us the choice aspect of the game in a movie. But the Wendigos? Definitely.

What am I supposed to respond to someone with that much bad faith. Mr Sandberg is that you? That would explain a lot.

Me and my friendgroup thought the wendigos were ok but didnt add anything to it. Game Was scarier when it was psycho horror istead of boring Monster.

That makes too much sense. To me this ball drop is almost as hard as Max Payne, they literally screwed up a John Woo action flick in the peak of the Matrix fame

So, copying Happy Death Day's idea and stamping it onto a niche gaming IP.

Good luck!

This was my initial thought after watching the video. Seems exactly like Happy Death Day.

And it makes sense to copy it. The movie did 125 million at the box office globally on a budget of 4.8 million dollars. The sequel did 64 million worldwide on a budget of 9 million dollars.

They struggled to franchise the concept, but Until Dawn could find success there.

A lot of people are being pretentious about the idea, but at the end of the day horror is super random in terms of what is successful and what isn't.

That Peter Stormare is the only named actor here suggests they're trying to keep the budget really small despite the name attached to it. Combined with a lack of advertising so far, suggests the same. It could also suggests they're not super confident that it'll be successful.

But when you compare this to Happy Death Day or in Sony's hopes probably something more like Final Destination as a franchise.

Whenever you see responses like you see here, you know a lot of people don't know what they're talking about. Hundreds of movies come out all the time, 99% aren't going to be for you, but for some reason if it's related to PlayStation it needs more commentary. It's a weird position to have.

Like, I don't get it. What movies in this genre do people who are responding think have merit? They're all like this. Doesn't mean this will be successful, but as I said, it's super hard to predict the success of horror movies, but I also think people are responding to this like anyone thinks it's going to do a billion dollars. That's not the goal here. Success here would probably be anything from 75 to 100 million dollars.

I mean objectively It and the Annabelle movies have been really successful... Particularly their collaboration on Annabelle Creation which did 306 million worldwide at the box office on a budget of 15 million...

Famous director?

What are you talking about?

He directed the movie closest to UD in terms of subject matter, probably a key reason why he was asked to write the game as well.

Would have been cool if it was on a streaming service where you could pick the choices and see it play out

They tried that with Black Mirror and people didn't really love it.

So a bit like Final Destination? We’re gonna get a bunch of cool death scenes?

Yeah the pitch seems like Final Destination meets Happy Death Day. Certainly not the worst concept, but who knows whether it will be successful.

Annabelle Creation made all the money in the world for a horror movie and its sitting at a 6.5 on imdb. It really comes down to whether people are entertained or not.

You said the dude was famous, not a single one of his movies had any major presence at the box office, including Wendigo. The movie has a 5.1 on imdb.

The objective argument that Sony was "dumb" for not utilizing him here makes no sense in the real world.

Why is Sony hell bent on making this IP a thing? Who asked for this? Who wants this?
"Hell bent", "A thing"...
Why are people acting as if Sony is expecting this to kickstart a billion dollar film franchise?
I've literally only seen people make these comments with Sony games.

Sony made a studio that is turning games into TV/Movies.

Until Dawn is one of Sony’s most loved IP’s.
All games in the old PS Plus collection were considered their favourites and will likely see similar treatment, Until Dawn among them.
