Sony shares behind the scenes photo of the upcoming Gran Turismo movie

The upcoming Gran Turismo movie is now in its filming stages it appears. Sony Pictures took it upon itself to share a behind-the-scenes on Twitter picture to commemorate the start of its filming process.

We already knew of this film’s existence back in May, but much of the movie was surrounded by a level of mystery, but more has come out since last we covered it. Distinct 9’s Neill Blomkamp takes the role of director while Archie Madekwe stars. Other actors such as David Harbour, Orlando Bloom, and Djimon Hounsou are all also featured in the film

The movie is based on the long-running Gran Turismo series, which has its roots in the original PlayStation back in 1997. The movie itself, though, is based on the true story of Jann Mardenborough, a British player of the game who ended up competing in actual race tournaments over the years.

The Gran Turismo movie will make its way to the theaters on August 11, 2023.

While the photo is blurry, they seem to be having actual cars race each other for scenes in the movie based on the picture That's different than the insert green screen stuff many recent racing films have done.

I didn't know about this British guy who in real life played and won GT championships and became a race car driver. I wonder how good he is as one and what his record is. If he's high caliber than this movie may drive GT7 sales because people will think it's a gateway to becoming a real race car driver, which is neat.

Wonder if GT Academy is still a thing. I remember this story around the PS3 days. Dunno if was about this specific guy or another one.

First glimpse and it's already showing the old GTR.

It will be terrible.

What they should have done was just make a high production value documentary about the history of racing and the history of cars in general. That is what GT was really all about (until they got greedy and idiotic with the last few entries).

I thought the movie would be a fast paced race car movie in name only. Didn't know Sony was going to make a movie which is one part documentary, one part video game franchise promotion. Half the movie I bet will be the person talking GT and footage of gaming.

The story synopsis literally involves a guy growing up playing GT to become a racer, so I expect GT7 to be the game shown in the film.

Do you actually learn useful racing tips when playing """""The real driving simulator""""""" Honest question here. I played 1 through 4 extensively but I always knew there were loads of proper racing simulators to play on PC.

GT was more of a car porn, car collecting game than a racing game to me

GT Academy dosent exist anymore, so if they want to tell the story more acurate they will show GT5 or 6, cuz the story is about a GT player that joined and won the GT Academy and moved on to race in various real races. But they might also show GT7 for comercial purposes. The movies is not a documentary, is just based on a true story.

Yeah you can learn some things, especially tracks layouts. GT is scary acurate in his track layouts to the point alot ppl try to beat world lap records in the game using the same car and track and the results end up like being just a few seconds diference to the real world times.

The youtuber SuperGT was invited to do some laps in Nurburgring in a M3, and he drove it like it was not the 1st time he was doing that. He mention the feeling is still very diferent from the game because the car G forces and you feel every bump on the road. But he was very confortable overtaking other cars cuz he knew the track layout so well so he knew when to go faster or slower. Ppl can also learn racing etiquet, correct way to aproach the corners, and so on.

Also GT Sport and GT7 are much more realistic games compared to old GT games.
