Sony's E3 2014 - What are we all expecting?

We already got e biggest leak : project beast

Even without CBOAT, I have a hard time seeing how sony can have anything bigger than that. Feel sorry for them. Probably took the biggest thing away.

Especially a leak from japan studios. That never happens

You only say it's the biggest thing they have because you're part of the project. So you're biased.

Is this really true or are you saying it for dramatic impact? I rarely read the press anymore but it sounds too outlandish *all* or even a major chunk of them would be saying stuff like that, because there's zero evidence to support it. Z. Roh.

The American gaming press reaction to Xbone drm vs the general consumer reaction says plenty about the so called "journalist" and there intentions to be nothing more than be a mouth piece for Microsoft and call us entitled cry babies, but we're getting off topic

I'm curious on how playstation now is going to work in terms of price and content that's available, crosses fingers for retroactive ps1,psp, and ps2 trophies :)

This will keep happening...

...and I will keep asking...
I say this as it's likely very early, probably a late 2015 to a very likely 2016 title. Very early into development. Not that they need to do CGI to impress...

I'm a bit irritated someone spoiled that to be honest, it's annoying that we get these leaks before the shows. There's always a d-bag somewhere ruining the surprise. That's why I barely looked at the pictures. I have no idea how you say we got the biggest leak already, it's too hard to tell. TLG or Crash returning would be mind bending stuff that would dwarf anything shown at this year's E3, though I have a feeling U4 is probably going to look ridiculous.

Regarding the whole Crash Bandicoot thing there were indication that Activision removed all Crash related stuff from their site some months back.
Sony teasing/posting various image of Crash, Arrow Up, SCE logo and ND 30 year anniversary.

All those things combined kinda says it's gonna happen and why not?
PS4 needs games for younger audience as well variety has always been their strongest point. TLOU:R didn't take that much time so they pretty much got 1 team making UC, but we all know ND is larger than that.

Maybe wishful thinking or over-thinking, we'll see in 3 weeks though.
I'd love for a Crash reboot the orginal game was mind blowing to me at the time.

We should be wary what we wish for. It would be better to leave the franchise alone than to revive it only to put a stain on it.

I know they are focusing on PS:NOW

But I think sony is missing a huge opportunity to release PS and PS2 classics with trophy support.

Think of all the replay value it would add. I know they will do it eventually but I hope they add it sooner rather than later...Also, will I have to rebuy all the crash and spyro games that I already bought on the PS3? I probably will but that's kind of a scumbag move.

Eh, TBH them revealing a new Tomba or UmJammer would be a personal megaton for me. Or a surhor game. I still think they'll have other megatons on par or bigger than Beast as well.

I don't see Beast being their biggest megaton. It may be the biggest reveal for the "hardcore", but Souls games are pretty niche (despite DS2's multiplatform sales)

I think most of the media and people out there already made their decisions that MS will win this E3 regardless of what Sony does.
That will only make it so much better when it turn out not to be the true. The media has being defending the XOne from the begging its like as if they felt there jobs were on the line in case the Xbox One failed or something.

Yeah, I'd definitely argue it's reached some sort of mainstream status. The fact it absorbs the mainstream press for a week or two is kinda telling. Not many titles manage that.

Even if you take into account its mulitplatform sales they really aren't that great. DS2 already dropped out of the NPD and it's out of nearly every European chart. The series is way too hardcore for the average gamer.

I have observed that trend (not only within the american gaming media). Most of those journalists grew up being SEGA and Nintendo fans, and Sony was widly regarded as the iintruder that killed the first and dethroned the second.

Whoever wins E3 is unimportant, though it'd be nice if expectations weren't all that mellow.

I mean, look at below:

Bar development hell, honestly, we should be getting a game dev update from at least 5 studios sometime between E3 and TGS. And those are just the internal studios, excluding externally contracted developers like RAD, Insomniac ( next Ratchet for movie tie-in?), Quantic Dream, Housemarque, etc.

The advantages of internal studios is that we can generally guess their next release cycle like clockwork. We can add an extra year whenever restructuring, engine creation and platform leap happens, but generally they don't sway far from expectations unless development hell. ( like TLG )

I thought Sony had 13 studios...
I might have included SOE by mistake.

That is an interesting way at looking at it. Unless the hardware change has been really traumatic, we are in for some surprises.

What makes you think Sony would put a stain on it? And even if they did, why would it be any different than the way Vivendi/Activision treated the franchise?

Here, you fools:

The Last Guardian

Project Beast

Crash Bandicoot

Infamous: SS DLC expansion

Guerilla's new ip!

The Order gameplay! BOSS.

TLOU Remastered footage 1080/60

Demon's Souls Remastered 1080/60

God of War 3 and Ascension 1080/60

Deep Down gameplay. Sic.

Final Fantasy 15

Agent

Half Life 3 exclusive.

That's It! End E3! SHUT IT DOWN. Go home.

Shut the gen down! Sony won! Game Over.

I always end up being disappointed with these things, so I'll set the bar low and tailor it after the tapestry of past E3s:

-10 minutes of sales charts, "man on the street" videos of people saying things about Playstation because someone with a camera told them to, and masturbatory back-patting.
-5 minute "exclusive" demo... of a multiplatform game we've known about for awhile... that doesn't demo well.
-5 minutes of PS4 sizzle reels for things we already know about and a couple things that might have been surprising if they didn't leak the week before E3.
-Infamous DLC reveal, looks pretty cool but eh it's a DLC reveal.
-2 minute indie reel for things we've already known about but occasionally may not have known were coming to PS platforms. 3 additional minutes of Sony buttering up indies. High possibility of Shu video/Mega64 video for laffs (Laffs not guaranteed).
-Kojima comes on stage for a few minutes and demos MGS5's equivalent to watermelon cutting and wraps up with "60 minutes of exclusive gameplay, Only on Playstation" non-bombshell.
-5 minute demo of an actual exclusive that we already knew about but haven't seen much of... Looks really pretty, doesn't demo well.
-10 minute reveal of an actual new game that's 1 minute trailer, 9 minutes guy on stage giving a sales pitch/recounting why police traumatize him and then telling us to look forward to it in early late 2015
?
-20 minutes of blah blah about Project Morpheus intercut with copious amounts of Media Molecule and/or Quantic Dream noodling around on tech demos.
-5 minutes of PS3 talk and a sizzle reel of stuff we already know about.
-2 minute sizzle reel of Vita stuff we already know about; Maybe, maybe one mild surprise like a new Patapon or Locoroco or something.
-That's all, folks!
-Just kidding, third party surprise reveal (Potency of surprise not guaranteed).
-Okay really now, get out.

We've decided to do away with E3 hype threads for conferences. If there is actual news about the contents of the conference, or news about a specific game, feel free to create a dedicated thread.
