Sony's PSP Ads Suck

I know it's been kinda discussed before, but Sony's PSP ads really suck.

The "It's like a..." ads are retarded.
The "Try and toss" ads give the impression people dislike the PSP and throw it away.
The graffiti thing - what the hell ever happened to that? Did anyone confirm Sony's involvement? (Yes, Sony did it) Did they actually deface public property or private property without permission?

None of their PSP ads show any decent amount of gameplay.

The ads are still running.

What the fuck happened to Sony's marketing? It used to be a hell of a lot better.

I don't like their tv ads. But the 360 ads I hate even more. I don't know if they are the same in the US as they are here in Canada, but they make no sense. The most common one is just a bunch of people doing some fancy jump roping.
 
To my knowledge it seems most system launch ads 9 times out of 10 are TOO esoteric as evidenced by these ads and the Xbox and GC ads at launch too (although the Xbox ads weren't nearly as bad as the Cube ads). I can't remember a single launch PS2 ad though, so I can't speak to them.
 
I still like the unaired 360 commercial with everybody in a mexican standoff using their hands as guns, then someone fires and all hell breaks loose. Not only is it funny, but it more directly relates to the core online capabilities (i.e. online shooters) that seem to be a part of the 260 experience.
 
I think the X360 ads are retarded too, but my casual friends are impressed with them so its doing its job. Atleast with my friends it is.
 
Weren't the GCN ads people/scenarios vaguely game related "trapped" in clear cubes? That was pretty fucking cool, actually. GameCubes, and all that.

The PS2 launch ads (PS9) were awful. PSP's are pretty bad too. Don't remember the Xbox ones. Never saw an X360 one.
 
There was one PSP add that had some white claymation shit or something, but it was terrible.
 
Uhmm kinda off-topic, but if anyone who's in NYC... what's with the PSP spray paintings? Basically kids using the PSP for other things, like a girl using it as a lollipop or another kid using it as a skateboard? I see it round Mid-Manhattan... donno if it's anywhere else.

It's just the local hoodlums expressing their passion and interest for the exciting Sony PSP. No big deal.

I believe it's part of Sony's urban push, and I do believe they're getting called on it by the authorities in some cities.
 
The only one I've seen is two robots fighting made out of the PSP symbols which was pretty cool. The ones I've heard descibed sound pretty bad (so did the pictures of the graffiti, which was legal btw).

I really don't remember the DS ads... At most they are uninteresting, but eh PSP ones are actively bad and kinda insulting. Maybe I'm mistaken, what were they that makes them worse, much worse than a portable nut?

A friend of mine actually thought they were ads against the PSP, saying kids don't do those things anymore because they've been sucked into a world of videogames.

His theory pretty much made a lot of sense, not knowing those were from Sony. So yeah, that's pretty much terrible advertising right there.
 
What ever happened to those ads where they bashed the competition? Remember some of those Genesis ads?

I saw the good ad (music, movie, games with the revolution in handheld entertainment) at the theater yesterday before Syriana. I wish they'd use that ad instead of the squirrels.
 
"Squirrel, please!"

They came off as racist to me. Not claiming anything, but Sony definitely hired a naive bunch for those ads

There's also another PSP commercial with the squirrels. I don't remember what they're saying, but at the end one says, "HELLS YEAH!" and then the boring announcer comes on and goes. "PSP. Hells yeah."

They are so, so horrible.

That's probably the most boring, but the cleanest ad they had so far (and they were showing it on a TV for some time now, I guess probably aimed at older, more sophisticated buyers) Like them or not, the fact is that everyone has seen and remembered the squirel ad and almost noone has remembered that "good" one.
 
The initial ad (like "Take me out") was very good, and the ad they play in Empire movie theaters is also very good, the others... not so much.

Hey guys, people aren't allowed to have opinions anymore! Yeah, eat a bag of dicks. :p

And that is the first time I have ever seen that dustmite one. I agree, that was pretty fucking terrible. But guess what? I still think the squirrel one is okay, and I still think it is better than the 360 ads or most of the DS ads. And I think the Mario Kart ad sucks, too.

I hadnt seen the dust bunnies commercial yet, wtf?

The people throwing the PSP to get rid of them is also retarded.

DS ones are much better. Besides the before-mentioned mario kart, ive seen a animal crossing one. Also, last year they had the "rouching is good" ones which were nice.

Even knowing it's an ad from Sony themselves, what the hell are they trying to say? They're interesting and cool to look at, but aside from that, it doesn't make any sense. Their point isn't coming across properly and it's too easy to misinterpret, and so thus it sucks as an ad.

In my opinion, all the PSP ads are wannabe-witty, but fail miserably. It hurt seeing the squirrel and dust bunny ones.
