as soon as Xbox 360 officially launches on Nov 22, it'll become the current-generation Xbox. whereas the old Xbox will be concidering 'last generation'. we can also refer to the third generation of Xbox which is 5 years or so away, as the next-generation Xbox.

November 27, 1998 Japanese Dreamcast marked the beginning of the current generation, and now November 22, 2005 marks the beginning of the new generation.

and no, the new generation does *not* start with Playstation3 :D

I always like to think that the generation starts when all of the "next-gen" consoles are out, and not when the first one comes out. Honestly, I don't think anyone thought next-gen started in '98 or '99.

You did if you played nfl2K.

The Dreamcast is often disregarded because they stopped making games for it and stopped manufacturing it. Nothing to do with graphics or Sega's market share.

Same here. Hell, Dreamcast went out before next-gen finally started going full steam in 2001.

We should get some insane predictions in before the "next gen" starts, for crow eating in 5 years.

nintendo goes software only
microsoft is in a closer second place
sony reveals to the world that humanity has been living in "their matrix" and kutaragi created it

So is N64 officially "old school". Can we now praise every lame ass game created on it like we do for the NES/SNES?

Not to derail the thread, but how many of you are still counting on walking into a store on launch day without a preorder? Read the bolded red. Are they just trying to drum up a fuss or will there be a real shortage? :D

They had the same warning for the DS

"orders placed now will ship in 2005"

Nintendo and MS prefer brick stores to get more units. More displayed units = more coverage.

There will either be enough on the first day or there will be huge second shipments after a few days once word of "shortages" got around. Don't worry, MS should have them packed up and ready to ship.

NEVER.
EVER.
FORGET.

oh yes, please sony, tell me when next gen begins. i shall wait 6 months for a machine that will produce games that look the same, just because it says sony on it

What are you talking about? Sony have always raised the bar. PS1, PS2 and PSP all have delivered. Would you really say DS is next gen compared to PSP?

uhm...what i am saying is that when the PS3 launches it's games will look the same as the xbox360 games at that time.

No one's even seen playable PS3 games. If you're not ready for the next-generation, enjoy whatever generation you think the PS2 and PSP are providing you right now, and it'll be a surprise in the Fall of 2006. Like BOO! And you'll say "Why didn't MS think of that?"

There is a Gundam Demo floating around were a user is controlling the Gundam. It looks nice but its far from a final build. Point is, thats one Demo were it was actually playable.

Lets be honest at best those past wannabee next gen systems and now the xbox 360 are mere previews of what the true next gen will be. Like the past the 360 is fated to be merely a tiny footnote in the gaming timeline leading towards a true next gen wich is always dictated by the leading game company. I never said whait 6 months, go ahead an get a 360 that still won't change a thing.

I don't think so. MS has a ton of support in their favor. Much more than Sega ever had with the DC.

Will it be enough to surpass Sony? I doubt it. I know MS wants to be number one but lets look at this realistically. If they aren't number one they've set up a situation where they can still make money by still not being in the top spot.

Suggestion: Ban every user that thinks like this.

Oh come on now Mike, we dont need to wait untill Nov 22nd to praise Shadows of the Empiter, I loved that game, I would like a sequal actualy, or should I say a re-make, and just more Star Wars games of the gener, I love Star Wars games damnit!

Oh, this wasnt even close to on topic, But one thing is for sure, Nov 22nd will be the begining of the XBox 360 generation. :D

With Nintendo being the 8-bit leader and then ultimately winning the 16-bit war with sega they are seen as the 16-bit gen leaders as for the n64 I already said the next gen is dictated by the leasder, sony, as with the now nintendo came in too late and limping to the 32/64 era there also ending up in the lesser footnote of coming in too late just like the Cube.
