So much hype and so many people around me telling me how it's "the greatest thing ever" or that "it's soooooo funny." So I saw it a couple of days ago and wasn't terribly impressed. The songs were kind of funny and there were some good bits, but the movie relied way too heavily on vulgar language and actions and tried to pass it off as humour. No sale for me. The movie is average at best. Save your money. Am I missing something here?

I kind of thought the scene where
he goes down on the CIA dude
was retarded to say the least...

Hate the soundtrack all you want, but I'm so Ronery is the best song ever. :lol

Well if you don't like vulgar humor, then of course you're not gonna like the movie. That's its bread and butter!

"Pearl Harbour sucked... and I miss you!"

Havent watched it a second time, but I suspect it wont be nowhere near as enjoyable for that very reason.. Although Im sure I will still chuckle at the sex scene.

LOL, really? That was hillarious.

I agree with you, Alucard. I saw it last night, and while it had a few amusing moments, and most of the songs were pretty funny, overall it was just a bore.

As with most of those types of comedies, you need to see them in theatre to fully appreciate them. If you watch something like Dodgeball alone by yourself on your TV.. it's just simply not as funny than if you're in a room with 200 other people laughing.

I think you have to be intimately familiar with the sorts of films Team America is parodying to fully appreciate it. The majority of the shots and moments come from many many Bruckheimer / Joel Silver produced movies.

The scene with the dead puppets floating away in the panama canal had me in stitches as the shot was held for a good 5 seconds longer than it should and the image of the dead floating in the water, in other movies, is always used to pull out sympathy from the audience.

Other parts such as the music building to a heroic swell during the vomiting scene was quite well done as was the scene where the team is torn asunder all at once over the ocean. The movie follows such a strict formula of block buster action films.

Given that the film came out in January here in the UK, I was suprised that bit wasn't cut, coming so soon after the Asian tsunami. The cinema went very quiet at that bit.

OK, confessional: I hate South Park, and find slinging cuss words at a script and going for XTREEM OUTRAGEUS situations so not comedy, but TA did it just right. They walked a very thin line between crass and silly and hilarious and inane, and did it excellently.
