Soooooo is Silksong 2024 now?

Definitely and I'd prefer they take as much time as they need. I wouldn't be surprised if it's not released until late next year. By all accounts, it's a much larger game than the original.

Game is in development/bloat hell I imagine?

Remember Hollow Knight added DLC after the fact, but they had to get the base game out so they could eat(The Kickstarter only made $36,611) but then went on to be one of the best selling Metroidvania games of all time.

With Silksong they don't really need to do DLC they can just make their complete game and move on which is probably what they're going to do? They don't seem very interested in microtransactions or paid DLC and they don't have a major publisher breathing down their necks.

Honestly if there's no release date trailer @ The Game Awards for Silksong(Geoff Keighley knows how badly people want this game) I wouldn't expect that game until later 2024 or 2025.

It'll be 7 years in february 2024 since Hollow Knight released

But I prefer they take whatever time it needs.

Wow that's a long time,it feels like an eternity for such a game but there are enough games to play so yeah let them take their time with it to give us the best version it can be.

I haven't followed this that closely, but do we have any idea what could be causing this to take almost 8 years to develop?

I want them to take their time, but that can't be the whole story here.

I bet it will be worth the wait... That's what I tell myself whenever I think of Silk Song. But yeah it's long. Have there been any updates on their progress on twitter or anywhere?

I'll use any Silksong thread to stand on my soapbox.

If they make me use up a coveted charm slot just so I can fucking see where I am on the map, I will absolutely lose my mind. That was quite possibly one of the dumbest video game decisions I have ever seen when they did that in Hollow Knight. Games should never make the player choose between QoL and gameplay.

I liked the map system, how you have to find the map maker to get a rough map, then explore to fill it out completely. Interpreting the map to narrow down your precise location is another aspect that gives the feeling of an adventure. Having perfect information makes things simpler, but not more fun or adventurous. If it bothers you that much you can use a slot for the charm, it's not like you need all the slots to be perfectly min-maxed at all times.

You're not wrong to dislike it, but I'm gonna address the gathered crowd from my own soapbox and warn them against the dangerous ideas you're peddling.

It should be in the options, then. Charm slots are incredibly valuable in the game, and there's no reason why a player should have to spend one on something that is based around QoL.

But I think, more than anything, I've been put off by the "Hollow Knight can do no wrong" community. Look, it's easily one of my favorite games. It's absolutely fantastic. But that doesn't mean that it doesn't have flaws or areas of improvement. The problem with the community is that the moment someone brings up a valid complaint, they're usually shitstomped by a choir of fanboys exclaiming Hollow Knight is the second coming of Christ. (I'm not lumping you in with that crowd, btw. Your response is totally reasonable.)

But that's a dangerous narrative to peddle, in my opinion. I get worried that the near-universal praise for Hollow Knight will prevent the devs from seeing valid critical feedback. I want Silksong to be as good as possible, but part of that process is probably discussing the areas in which Hollow Knight could have been improved.

I agree with Punished Miku Punished Miku . HK is an overrated game. It's still absolutely incredible and one of the best Metroidvanias of all-time, but it's not this image of flawless perfection that people claim it is.

I dunno. Maybe I'm just jaded and annoyed with the crazed Hollow Knight circlejerk fandom.

Yeah, I think the gap of time between release date reveal and release will be as short as they can possibly make it, given how long the wait has been already. No doubt Xbox or Nintendo are all over it with Team Cherry on a good final phase & release gameplan.

Have they ever explained why it's taking so long? What's going on?
It's been talked about to death already by now, but it's an extremely small team (3 people, I think?) making a large game, and it takes as long as it takes, and they are in no rush. Clearly financially the previous Hollow Knight sales are keeping them afloat.

Whenever Silksong releases I'm still going to prefer SotN, Bloodstained, Deedlit Wonder Labyrinth, Metroid Dread, Pseudoregalia, Ghost Song over it because I feel Hollow Knight is not only overrated but also ugly to look at.

It's vaporware until proven otherwise to me.
Total radio silence apart from that false release window announcement at the MS event more than one year ago. Zero news, zero teasers, zero screens, nothing. Way too bold for such a small dev to rely entirely on the success of the first game to keep people interested.
If this game does come out there's no way it can live up to expectations. The "specialized" press would surely give it a 97 out of the gate if mediocre stuff like Sea of Stars is anything to go by, but seriously, after 7 years they'd have to make the best game ever made to live up to the hype.

Maybe? Who knows at this point.
I just hope the next time they show it there's an actual date attached to it.

There's no way this game is going to live up to everyone's expectations. The first isn't even that good.

It's going to be glorious.
When your grandkids ask you where you were the day Silksong came out and entertainment changed forever you'll have to admit you were a doubter!!!

Sadly yes. But Silksong has regressed to an almost Bloodborne level of "It might arrive at some point, maybe"-feeling. It doesn't really inspire much confidence that its also built using Unity.

Revealing Silksong so early was an unforced error on Team Cherry's part. Indie devs don't have to announce stuff to please shareholders like larger devs do....just shadow drop the game when it's done.

Sad how difficult Hollow Knight is to click with for some people. I struggled with for a while as well. It had some design issues I can't put my finger on, but at a certain point it I really started to enjoyed it.

I think maybe the game should have made navigation without a map easier..

They should just cancel it
Imagine if Super Giant' just 'canceled' Hades...
