Assuming the plot is true....now that this information has been leaked, surely the perpetrators in question could just alter their plans to focus on different locations? Or just initiate the attacks earlier then intended?

Maybe that's the plan? Instead of a well organised attack to force them to improvise, change plans at the last moment, make mistakes?

Could this just be the Trump loving FBI trying to suppress voters? I'm kidding, that's some conspiracy shit.

Really though, this wouldn't even be the most surprising thing out of this election if it happens. I really hope it doesn't :(

First, it would be terrible for the loss of life alone. That can't be understated.

But you can just see one or both of the nominees using this to try to rile up the citizens for war support. And I have a hunch which one would do that most effectively.

You must mean notorious war hawk Hillary Clinton. Remember that Donald Trump wisely counseled we stay out of Iraq after 9/11.

lol

It's not a conspiracy when this is exactly what the FBI has been doing the last eeek.

Are you seriously suggesting the FBI is gonna let Al Qaeda do some bombings so Trump gets elected? Are you for real?

(And that's also assuming such events would sway big enough masses, btw)

I don't think anyone is suggesting that, but perhaps the threat is bogus or not very credible. Wouldn't be the first time fear is used to sway votes.

my cynicism: this would be carried out by actors or even hired real terrorists.

I expect anything when it comes to people trying to force a trump victory at this point.

Not sure about a physical terror attack, but I do expect another big DDoS attack on Tuesday.

Yeah, they'll kill the internet for the whole day so no one can read about how Russia put a virus on all voting machines that switches all votes to Trump. Good thing Clinton got to them first and all Trump votes log as Clinton.

Why do you think this would be so unbelievable?

Not challenging you, just curious.

It's not that I think an actual terrorist attack is impossible. As a new yorker, I'm well aware that they do happen.

Why would they announce this? What kind of strategy is that? should one not stop a terrorist attack in its tracks instead of admitting, "they will attack here on this day?"

What announcing this does is cause fear. The FBI no doubt has a pro-Trump bias. What does Trump gets his votes from? Fear. The night before election night three very significant states have been threatened with terrorism? New York, Texas, and Virginia. Not swing states, no, but they're big enough places that many Americans have friends and relatives who reside in those states. A big enough scare can tip the election in his favor, and the FBI can get their buddy Trump elected.

Considering telling my cousin to not send his kid to school on election day
The elementary school is connected to the middle school and it's a polling location in his city. Entirely unnecessary but still, all the same....

If true, I hope they're able to shut this attempt down. It's scary how something like this could happen anywhere, to anyone.

Makes sense to happen Tuesday to really push the utmost 'patriotic' people to the polls to fight turrrrrizzm and scare a lot of potential voters into staying home Tuesday.

Hold on to your butts, it's going to be a long five days.

I'm in Virginia, and I'll be voting right down the street from the Pentagon. I'm not really worried, though.

uh... there is no school on election day lol

Hope it's nothing and all security personnel are able to diffuse any issue that might arise. An emotional response to an incident can make voters respond differently.

Is Al Queda some ISIS spinoff group?

Our intel is a disaster. We have horrible intel. Okay? The worst intel.

Our intel is worried about Al Queda, but they won't say who's really a threat to this country, and they won't say what that threat really is. I'll tell you what it is. RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM. Okay? They won't say the words! ISIS. This Tuesday, when I become president, I will nuke ISIS within my first twenty four hours in office. Believe me. It's gonna be huge.

These ICBMs, they're just great

And I don't hate islams - arabs - muslims, whatever, okay? They're great, they're all great. Except for the ones that want to murder us, who I will personally kill, because I'm the only one who can, but the rest are great, no one has more respect for those types than me

This would come from the NSA and to a lesser extent the CIA and filter down to the FBI to work with the State agencies. The FBI doesn't do intel gathering. They are investigative and enforcement. NSA are the techies that listen/and look at data. and the CIA has folks in the field.

There is probably some chatter or something that has popped up for them to make this public. It would make some sense from the other sides viewpoint.

That's definitely not the case for their school.

Also say this since they live in the Central Valley, my cousin has already made mentions of it as well when we were talking about the election early in the week. CA in general is pretty chill till you get to some of those rural areas out in the central valley where he works and lives. Not saying anything is going to happen but when your own family shares concerns I mean what am I gonna do? Nah bruh don't worry about your kids.

They sometimes announce stuff like this to see if the people they suspect planning something will communicate with each other about it

They really do want Trump.

Well of course they do. They want Muslims to be treated with prejudice, discrimination. They want them to be fucking miserable. Far more likely to get sympathetic people to join their cause that way. Donald Trump is good for their business.

why would they not do it on Election Day? Seems like that would create more chaos.
I would say a devastating 9/11 like attack before an election of any kind would effect millions of millions of voters and turn out, especially the very next day. Like that timelines "day after" is election day. Thats pretty fucked up.

Was it wise to have this information leaked to the press?

Assuming the plot is true....now that this information has been leaked, surely the perpetrators in question could just alter their plans to focus on different locations? Or just initiate the attacks earlier then intended?

Or they'll abandon their plans altogether fearing greater security.

I'd rather they work to avoid these attacks and not catch those planning it than have an attack occur and catch them during/afterwards

I can't think of a single time that one of these "possible terrorist attack planned" reports came out and then something actually happened – in the US, at least. I mean, that's a good thing, but just saying.

Wasn't there plans found in the bin laden raid about an attack on the railway system?

This seems like a weird thing for the US intelligence to announce. Why would they announce it and in such a vague fashion if at all?

As strange as it sounds - US intelligence announcing it is aware of plots makes those plots less likely to proceed - they would be too scared of being caught or things going south.

Terrorism isn't as surprising or effective when people expect it.

Killing people will definitely help Trump in this election.

From Politico back in September:

In a Quinnipiac University poll last week, 49 percent of likely voters said Clinton would do a better job “keeping the country safe from terrorism,” while 47 percent said Trump would do a better job. And in an ABC News/Washington Post poll this month, half of registered voters said they trust Clinton more to handle terrorism, more than the 41 percent who trust Trump — though that margin narrows to 48 percent for Clinton to 45 percent for Trump among likely voters.

Hillary is viewed as a better leader and tougher on terror by the public.

I was just talking to someone on how trains here are very vulnerable. Atleast here in Chicago. Like if someone come aboard with a weapon and with enough ammo, that situation could be devastating.
