SPACEBALLS 2 Teaser (2027)

meh, Spaceballs has a couple of funny scenes like "Jamming the radar" but I'm not sure there needs another one.

There should be more Hot Shots instead.

Rick Moranis stopped acting years ago and wont be in it so they can fuck off.

They did history of the world 2 and it was garbage.

This has Rick Moranis so that is a plus. I don't know if he can save the way they are making these movies.

Spaceballs 2 could theoretically be fun but the real news here is Rick Moranis returning to acting.

Best Seymour Krelborn ever.

Ghostbusters Syndrome,

A term I that nicknamed him

Ghostbusters Syndrome, Is a event where they choose cult movies from the 70's to 90's that were very good and are icons, where Hollywood was asked to make a sequel and they didn't want to because they were egocentric.

It causes....mediocrity and little or little ingenuity in the creativity and inspiration of making good films with a great story.

Resulting in little creativity, where they resort to resurrecting franchises or movies, but without the main cast or wanting to add new hateful characters and without spark... Resulting in sequels after more than 10 years where they are a failure and are mediocre Reboots or sequels, Where the main protagonists no longer have the strength.

Main enemy: times and eras change, long wait for sequels where no one is excited anymore, new audiences who do not know the legacy of the film.

Examples

-Ghostbusters: Afterlife

-Beetlejuice 2

- The last Scream movie

-Star wars Episode VII, VIII, IX

- The new Indiana Jones movie

- Coming 2 America.

-Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

Exceptions that are saved.

Top Gun Maverick

Worst offender is Coming 2 America.

First one was so great (as a little kid) in the theater - really dumb, of course, but lots of fun. As usual I am going to expect that this will be shite so my expectations are in the toilet - but if the word is decent, I will be excited to get to the theater for this!

Mind you, History of the World Pt 2 sounds like it was atrocious so I've not bothered with it (1st one was a classic). Anyway, at least that teaser scroll was funny (although I was a little surprised they didn't mention the much-maligned cartoon spinoff...)

One of the issues with what they are doing is they just become a green screen CG fest. They build barely any set, they film it cheap and many time the actors are not even on set together. IF you want to make a good film, put in the work and build the stuff so the world feels real.

I was curious and started listening. They were making some decent points, and then they suddenly threw Robin Hood Men in Tights under the bus alongside Spaceballs and that's where they lost me.

Aw man Robin Hood is where Brooks lost me lol To me Spaceballs was his last good one

Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F was good. Ghost Busters: Afterlife was decent enough to get a sequel (which sucked). I didn't care for Top Gun Maverick and haven't watched the others.

Mel Brooks is 98, so hopefully he's still around for the sequel coming out, and for many years after that, of course. (to be a downer)
there was a time I got him and Lloyd Kaufman mixed up.

I never watched it but I heard the Spaceballs animated series was really bad.

Examples

-Ghostbusters: Afterlife

was decent, and relatively ok liked

-Beetlejuice 2

haven't seen it but people seem to really like it

- The last Scream movie

still FAR better than Scream 3, so let's not act like all the previous Scream movies were high quality. Scream 3 is BY FAR the worst one still, and the gap between it and the next one in line is large.... it's insane how bad Scream 3 was.

-Star wars Episode VII, VIII, IX

7 was ok, it only went downhill after that because they didn't have an actual plan

I also don't think SW counts here as the franchise was never really in hiatus. Clone Wars was on TV and video games were still being made regularly. ever since Episode 1, Star Wars was a constantly active franchise. and even before that it was very active through books and games.

- The new Indiana Jones movie

fair

- Coming 2 America.

pretty mediocre yeah

-Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F

haven't seen it yet

I am so confused.
I first saw Men in Tights when I was 12 and it was the funniest shit I'd ever seen in my life. I watched it like half a dozen times in one week. I can still quote most of it. And Cary Elwes is absolutely terrific in it.

Now Spaceballs… eh. It might be that I never watched in in English, it might be that it was already a bit old when I first saw it. But it was never that funny to me.

I still haven't seen Spaceballs all the way through. Robin hood and Dracula dead and loving it are his only movies I'm super familiar with and love.

Not sure which dub you saw, but I'd say Spaceballs is better in English for sure, at least compared to the German dub, which is the one I know and was how I watched the film first of course as a kid. the German dub is decent on a technical and performance level... but some jokes just don't translate well and had to be replaced (jammed radar doesn't work for example).

combing the desert works, so that didn't have to be adjusted... as the same terminology is used in both languages (comb/kämmen) both meaning combing hair and searching an area in both languages.

but even a center element of the film, The Schwartz had to be changed, as the joke didn't work, since it made fun of SW merchandise peddling stores like FAO Schwartz, which was a store noone would have known in Germany. it also didn't work phonetically as it needed to sound similar to the German translation of the Force (die Macht). so they changed The Schwartz to Der Saft (the Juice)... which is just funny sounding but not really a joke like The Schwartz.

I assume many dubs ran into similar issues. and this movie is full of double meanings and specific jokes that are probably hard to translate into most languages. Pizza The Hutt didn't work in Germany either back then, as Pizza Hut was still basically unknown back then. they already had some locations in Germany back then, but not that many. I still think they shouldn't have changes his name tho for the dub, as their alternative name isn't a joke and just sounds stupid... I guess they just wanted something that is German for some reason... but then didn't change Dot Matrix's name... so 🤷‍♂️
