SPACEBALLS 2 Teaser (2027)

Saw the news and immediately went "It's modern hollywood"... 99.9999999999% chance they'll fail at doing justice to this sequel.

Mel Brooks was seen as untouchable among my grade-school friends, but there's definitely a conversation to be had on whether his material crosses the line from funny to cheesy too often. It really depends on the movie.

My hot take: I don't love Young Frankenstein. It's commonly cited as the king of Brooks' films, but moments like "It could be worse, it could be raining" (it starts raining) make it feel like a first draft at times.

I like Spaceballs overall though. Star Wars parodies hadn't quite been done to death by then, at least on that scale and budget, and some of the actors really nailed their roles.

investigation we aint found shit GIF

By the way, if anyone doesn't realize it, this is Tuvok.

I'm surprised Brooks is still alive!!
I'm not sure about this one, you can't do humor nowadays like before. Hopefully it will turn out good

this kind of humor did have a short comeback in the late 2000s/early 2010s. so who knows?

movies like Scary Movie 3, Superhero Movie and a few others, were essentially copying (with varying degrees of success) the comedy style of Naked Gun, Airplane!, Spaceballs and other oldschool spoof movies. which wasn't surprising as David Zucker was involved in a few of them as a producer and/or director, and he and his brother of course were responsible for many of the oldschool spoof movies. the Zucker Brothers and Brooks were the 2 big players in the genre.

The weirdest thing about Space Balls is that for a Star Wars parady it doesn't feature a Luke or Obi Wan character at all. To that extent it hardly even feels like they were parodying the core elements of Star Wars at times. Schwartz rings? The Jewish humour and jokes were honestly lost on me.

Seems kind of weird to do a whole Star Wars parody movie when Star Wars itself is at an all time low in popularity.

Straight in the trash along with the Naked Gun remake?

I mean... I have been hearing about a sequel for decades now. But I guess the lack of John Candy made it a hard sell.

I never got into the cartoon series. I should give it a watch. But the animation always turned me off.

If Spaceballs 2 looks as good as the first one, I'll give it a shot . I guess what they were trying to say with that long intro was: "at least we have a lot of new material to work with."

Mel's got his work cut out for him thanks to Disney giving us a decade worth of Star Wars parodies. I keep thinking the funniest thing Mel could possibly do here is to make a straightforward legit good Star Wars movie even if only in spirit.

There are many, many deep shots that Mel Brooks can take at both Disney and the entirety of Hollywood with a Spaceballs 2, but I have my doubts. There's some expectations that things will be held back or end up totally missing the mark. This could easily be shit.

Still, here's hoping...

So, I have been watching a few episodes online
at dailymotion
.
Half of the episodes can be found on youtube.... I completely forgot about this animated series. It wasn't something that I actually watched back then, because I didn't have G4 at the time.

I think it aired on G4 in 2008-2009? I remember seeing previews for it on youtube. It has some cheap flash (Flash was still widely used in animation in 2008) animation. Forgot that Mel Brooks came back for Yogurt and Scroob. Joan Rivers was back for Dot, and so was Daphne Zuniga and Princess Vespa. Which are the best parts. John Candy, Rick Moranis Bill Pullman were replaced with some cartoon voice actors. There was a Star Wars: Prequel trilogy satire going on in the first episode. The comedy is hit and miss. Not all bad. I can't quite tell if it is trying to imitate the look of a 1970's or early 1980's Filmation cartoon. The show only aired for one season and has 13 episodes, it seems.

This is why I am a little skeptical about anything new, even when Mel Brooks is involved. That show always looked god awful.

So far I have seen the first seven episodes (out of 15), so far each episode is a self-contained situational comedy. Continuity is minimal. The show is full of 2008 era humour. The show was trying to add some minor edginess with a few casual swear words. But it is all pretty tame.

Again, it looks like they created everything in flash professional cs6 or something. Lots of skeletal and rigged animation. I guess you could say it is 'digital limited animation'. It looks like the most expensive thing was the voice cast and the audio mix.

Movie isn't great but getting those characters onscreen again was fun.
I repeat... And what good is that to me, if it doesn't have the charisma or the grace... Is not more like the complete script from before? It's like Ghostbusters Afterlife...

I found it abhorrent that the main cast was only there for the last 10 minutes, which was what made it worthwhile.

I am not asking you to like it, I am just saying I enjoyed that one.

And I say Hollywood is beating itself upside the head.

How foolish they were... We asked for a Ghostbusters 3 in the '90s and '00s, even with the full, healthy cast, and they refused to listen...

Now, after years of releasing a sequel to the movies... Time is their enemy, and everything was lost.

They should have released the sequels quickly.

Like Bettlejuice... No one went to the theaters to see the sequel, and it didn't have the impact of the '80s movie.

do you live in an alternate universe?

Wikipedia said:
The film went on to debut with $111 million, registering the second biggest opening of September (behind It), the second biggest for Burton's career (behind Alice in Wonderland), and the third biggest opening of the year (behind Deadpool & Wolverine and Inside Out 2). Around 7.7 million admissions, 73% of the total weekend's box office earnings, came from the film alone. The opening weekend gross surpassed the entire $74 million run of the original film.

To be fair, Ghostbusters 3 is the game that came out for PS360 back in 2009. It has the entire cast and Aykroyd and Ramis both wrote it. I'm pretty sure Aykroyd himself said it would've been the third movie. It's certainly better than the garbage sequels they've shat out with the gangly kid from Stranger Things whose nose is his entire face.
