Spelljammer 5th edition

I used to be a fan of the second edition game. It was one of my favorite sayings in Dungeons & Dragons 2nd edition.

It seems like the new edition was released and I was wondering if anyone here has taken a look at it. What I'm most interested in is how things work and what changed? Did they get rid of Crystal spheres surrounding the solar systems, for instance?

I have it. They did indeed. Basically universes are in bubbles now. Between the bubbles is the ethereal sea, where time basically stops and everything is propelled by thought.

Any vessel can be a spelljammer vessel, but it needs its a spelljammer hammer.

Artwork is like pretty.

May I ask what you mean by bubbles? Are they pretty much like Crystal Spheres or are they some kind of other type of material? I heard rumored that basically you just go far enough out of the solar system it transitions to the astral plane but I guess in this case it's the ethereal?

There isn't really a material dividing. You're right though, it's the Astral sea, not the ethereal sea. Got my terms mixed up.

Your understanding is correct. The space within a bubble is called Wild space. All of the dnd campaign settings exist within wild space systems. For example, Forgotten Realms is in Realmspace. Once you get to the edge, you simply enter the astral sea

My friends and I just started playing D&D this year for the first time. We’re only four sessions into Dragon of Icespire Peak (the adventure that comes with the Essentials Kit) so obviously not had time to check out a bunch of adventures.

I did buy the new Spelljammer book (and a ton of 5E books, just to have them should I need them) because it seemed fun but obviously I’ve not flipped through it (or the other prewritten campaign books) as I’m not into spoiling the adventures should one of my friends DM one or more of them in the future.
