I'm not saying it's the best Spider-Man game but I feel similarly about it the same way some people feel about Final Fantasy VII in that one of the reasons people remember that game more fondly is because it was their first in the series. Similarly, this was the first Spider-Man game I played back then. I think it also helped that Spider-Man (2002) had a great first level where immediately you could swing all around rooftops, stick to walls and climb them, and I also really liked the time of day and colors used.
There is also something about the graphics, even back then, that made me come back to it and replay certain levels (like traveling the sewers to find the keys and get to Shocker in the subway and later fighting Scorpion). I like the baked textures, static shadows in the environment and simple shaders. They look clean and videogamey even if dated. And then add to the fact this was the first Spider-Man game on PS2 and you would imagine for instance what it would be like if you could travel from the rooftop down to the streets or an actual day/night cycle, entering and exiting interiors etc.
Overall the game had a pretty good first half until you break into Oscorp and encounter that giant Metal Gear terminator-looking weapon that you don't even really fight. But then you get back to MJ and the Green Goblin. Like I said, not the best Spider-Man in my opinion but I like the first wave, early in the console generation visuals.
