But but the sales means every single person that bought one thinks its the greatest generation ever

The Toyota Corolla is one of the best selling cars ever doesn't mean ever driver think its the best car they ever owned

Seems like they realy fucked this game and the port. I have always said the first game was a pile of shit aswell, it seems this is more of the same but even the weirdy marvel men can only take so much of this shit. Glad people are coming around to it, Wolverine will be just as shit and fingers crossed that will be the end of Insomniac having to make these shit heaps.

They need to study the captive audience Playstation has created for itself - they buy mediocre Sony games in the millions and millions and make you think they're the second coming until you actually play them. Insomniac games look and play nice but they are totally soulless and ball-less.

Didn't Sony pay a ridiculous sum of cash to keep Insomniac signed on to these games for 10 years or so? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

and if I'm not mistaken, they also have to share a portion of earnings from these games even post-release as well.

Spiderman 2018 was great. But yes this game was a miss. I hope it led to some soul searching at Insomniac.

Insomniac peaked with Up Your Arsenal.

Spider-Man and Horizon are the exact same thing as typical Ubisoft open world games, except they aren't as long and are more focused. The gameplay and writing is every bit as middling, but for some strange reason, they always get nominated for GOTY.
You know why....

no PSVR2 port. Truly a blunder

hope they're rushing that now with Astro Bot game of the year
If Sony isn't gonna support their own VR, I don't see why they don't try to recoup their costs from their quality PS4 VR exclusives by at least porting them to Quest or Steam or both. Quest in particular; the VR audience is there now, so why not just throw the first Astro Bot on there and watch line go up?

It is strange that these games flop once outside of the PlayStation bubble. Is it as simple as deluded fanboys and corrupt journalism or is there a deeper meaning to why it happens?

This game always looked shit to me when they originally showed off the on rails river section and dodging little green fart clouds but it sold well and reviewed highly, yet now it's seen as utter trash.

They score so well in reviews as well though. This is a 90 metacritic game.
Something like Uncharted 4 or the Last of Us you can argue that they were judged differently when they launched - but this game is only a little over a year old.

The deeper meaning is that Sony built a platform. The PlayStation is for people who like the games on it. Part of that is Sony games. This makes total sense. It's part of the reason why you have a console. It's the same reason why Sega fans on this forum are still fighting the SNES and PlayStation 2. Because they like the games Sega made and that's why they were on Sega platforms.

You take those games out of the ecosystem and they become just another game. Spiderman now has to compete against every other game on Steam and Steam is full of people that don't give a shit about Sony games. It just becomes another fish in the pond. This is why Nintendo will never port their games to non-Nintendo platforms. TOTK on another platform is just another game. Even ostensible Nintendo fans, maybe they buy TOTK or maybe they buy whatever else is on Steam. It's not the same. It's just reality. It's what happened to Sega when they moved over to third party.

This is something that a bean counter loser like Hermen Hulst would never understand.

It's standard practice when you work with estabilished IPs from other companies. You're being captain obvious for the sake of it. You think you had some kind of gotcha? I don't understand.

If it's standard practice, why bother pointing out other unrelated IP and brands.

Relax warrior. You're giving off a lot of "leave the multibillion dollar company alone" vibes here :messenger_grinning_sweat:

I'm pointing it out because you're a hypocrite and a captain obvious. The way you gor triggered said it all :)

This is pretty much admitting how tribal fans are. Many of these games are nothing special, except for the person that spent money on the brand's plastic box.

That's what makes PC ports so interesting. You're selling to an audience that's not invested in your brand. They're not going to buy games out of obligation or loyalty.

No. You missed the point. People like the games and buy the console. It has nothing to do with tribalism. If you don't like Sony games then a PlayStation does not have the appeal it does to someone who does, same with Nintendo. The games are not going to have the juice they do on the console because the console has a built in audience of fans.

IMHO THE biggest reason for Sony games not doing well on Steam is the fact that they're years old ports. Spiderman 2 would've sold millions on PC had it been released day one on Steam.

Honest question for all here: has there ever been a game that released day 1 on both Steam and PlayStation, and that bombed on Steam while being successful on PlayStation?

This doesn't account for it hitting half CCU of the first one (same for GoW).

Biggest reason is them region locking their game, and not having it available in around 140 countries, they're cutting about 50 percent of sales.

I still do expect TLOU 2 to become their biggest non-helldivers 2 pc release though because of the tv show. That game would have been mammoth without the region lock though.

I bought the first game on PC and found it mediocre. Got bored, did not finish it so.... zero chance of me buying the sequel 👎

50 percent of sales... do you realize how laughable that is?

By my estimation, the region-locked countries have a population of about 2.5 billion with an average GDP per capita of around $9k USD. There is no world in which that represents half of potential sales.

Why? I've put in around 10 hours so far, and I think it's fantastic.

The previous Miles and Spidey games had some incredible set pieces, but this sequel takes it to an entirely new level

I installed the latest patch. Still noticing following issues:
  • Turning on ray reconstruction causes a number of graphical glitches. Hair gets weird, shadows will be noisy after camera cuts, random things will have a weird halo around them, etc. Absolutely need to turn them off
  • Ray-traced ambient occlusion just kind of looks like ass and seems to have less coverage than XeGTAO. It also sometimes applies weirdly, like on the sides of the booths during the mission where you go to career day or whatever it was at Miles's school.
  • Sometimes textures won't load in properly and random objects will be in potato mode.
  • Ray-traced interiors have a glitch where the plant inside the interior appears to have a kind of glowing effect around the edges.
I can't believe they didn't delay this port. There wasn't anything special about the initial release date and now they've burned some of the goodwill they had.

There were some good things about it but it was very bland and had zero edge. Also, hands down the worst version of Mary Jane ever.
The real problem was what you said, it's a game with zero edge having Venom in it. How you can make a game so fucking bland with mofo Venom as a villain lmao
