Thomas Haden Church... Spidey's Villain!

The filmmakers are not revealing the identity of the new villain.

Sam Raimi doesn't like Venom apprently. I don't understand it. I think he will probably be Mysterio or Scorpion. He would be prefect for Carnage though. But then you need Venom.

I don't think he dislikes Venom, but the fact that his backstory is too complicated and far fetched for a movie.

Venom is not one of those villains that simply appeared out of nowhere, fought Spider-Man and got beat in a single issue. The story stretches from 1984 to 1988.

And trying to put carnage in 3 would require a 4 hour epic or a terribly plot hole ridden plot. carnage and Venom are badass, and the story's basically set up for them to appear, but it would require 2 movies. I'm pretty sure 3 will end with a cliffhanger of sorts, like 2, except

instead of the green goblin suit and stuff with Harry, they'll have Venom appear, in some form.

One of the sub plots could develop around him. sandman does sound like a good villain to have though, not somebody like Mysterio

I'm afraid there will be no more cliffhangers. This is the last Raimi/Maguire/Dunst film and as so, Sony has told him to go ahead as if this was the last Spider-Man film. I doubt it will be, but it'll probably be the last one for awhile.

All of whom suck SHIT next to Venom (even if he is overrated). Carnage is completely and utterly pointless, not to mention redundant. Then again, so is Hobgoblin (unless that's who Harry becomes).

When Marvel realized the value of Venom, they ruined the character.... he had maybe two or three worthwhile arcs in Spider-Man.

I think sticking to the original Venom story might be OK (with some tweaks of course, to gloss over that Secret Wars stuff), but I'm not thrilled with the idea of Venom being the next villain for Spidey when there are so many others out there...

Besides, Thomas Haden Church can't play Venom... R.C. Everbeck has already played the role of Eddie Brock

But if Batman can tap Ra's Al Ghul, I'm going to go out with the slightly-out there suggestion that the new Spider-Man villain will be Kraven

I'm not sure how anyone can believe this Venom and Man-Wolf thing. You're going to have those two villains and Harry Osborne? Harry's got to be either a second Green Goblin or the Hobgoblin if they feel the need to differentiate more, otherwise the last two films are building to nothing. The original report seems mighty shady, so I wouldn't buy it.

*sigh* This is the only fun part of the Spider-Man films for me; the speculation. The films suck, but damn would I love to see the characters brought to life by some capable people.

It's really easy to predict. It's gotta be the Sandman. Seriously, except for Venom (which has a boring long story), what other villains would look good on film? Doc Ock and Green Goblin were easy. Now, man-wolf? Vulture? Electro? Mysterio? Those would all look incredibly gay. Sandman brings great possibilities visually. Scorpion might not be too bad, but I'm not so sure. Sandman it is.

I seem to remember reading an interview with Tobey Macguire in which he said sandman would be a visually cool villian to do. Maybe it will be true?
