July 22, 2005 - UK-based developer Icon Games today announced Spinout, an arcade-style racer in development for PlayStation 2 and PSP.

Players will race a spherical vehicle -- or Xorb -- on tracks set very high above the ground. Along with various styles and stunts to pull off, the game will offer four-person multiplayer, Xorb customization, a realistic damage model, and unlockable rewards. Spinout will offer 54 tracks within nine environments.

They describe it as racing, how exactly would you race your Xorbs( :lol ) against other Xorbs (I mean really, Xorbs? :lol) on tracks that thin?

Apparently, a couple of PSP devs really had a ball with the minigames in Twisted Metal: Head On. Between those, Gripshift and this new game it's looking like the PSP's strongest genre is going to be stunt racing platformers

The terrain modeler seems fairly impressive - shame that it all just amounts to backdrop from the looks of things.
