I hate how people only talk about the continental US when discussing time zones. You provide a picture; there's 6 time zones on there! Do people really not know time zones?
 
I'm looking forward to trying out the game later tonight, but I'm curious if we will have the option to create our own inkling, or if we are just going to have a generic one to use for this test.
 
Just got the email for this. Ridiculous Nintendo shit as usual. Just make the damn thing an actual demo or at least give us full weekend.
 
To be honest, I don't even expect to get into the one tonight. Simply because it's an hour and the servers might be swamped.

Hopefully it works but, such a small window kinda scares me.

True and I get that but, an hour long stress test isn't really sufficient enough though is it? It could break or something right when it starts and it takes them an hour to find the problem and boom the test is already over for the day. I guess that's why they are doing it multiple days this weekend but, I think it should be at least 3 hours or something.
 
People in this thread seem to be under the impression that this is a demo put out for our sake.

It is just a test folks, if you wish to play the game you just have to wait a few weeks when it's released.

Forcing smaller windows ensures that they get the maximum number of people playing at once. In a three hour window, you'd get people playing at various points during that time span and wouldn't maximize the server load and overlap.

The stress test demo is not for you. It is to stress test the online. The game is out in less than 20 days.

It's a stress test. They want to get as many people jumping online at a very specific time to measure stability.
 
This is gonna be fun later tonight. Maybe. If servers don't outright crap out lol. But that's what the test is for and Nintendo will remedy it to prevent that from happening come the end of May.
 
Looking forward to it! First MP game in a long time that I'm excited to play. I'm already digging that simple loading screen drum beat. :)

It's only up for an hour, I feel like I'll be lucky to get into a single game properly.

We basically have to wait until August for proper custom party rooms and such. Even if you join a friend's game now, you might not be on the same team. It's all in the Direct.

I haven't checked, but isn't 589 MB the download size while 1GB+ is the size that it takes on the console (i.e. once installed/extracted)? I thought it always worked like that for eShop downloads.

Exactly, though this means I have to return home to my apartment early & pray to god that the bandwidth isn't being hogged by my roommates.

No, it's the same as on PS3. It takes double the size it actually is to download and install. It only takes up the 500 odd MB on your storage when it's done.

There are 3 hours, just not consecutively (Which makes more sense in the situation you describe). And I imagine the whole point is to see if the worst will happen. And not like anything stopping them from adding more times if they want to down the line

Am I the only one that doesn't see this as being a problem. Sure I like teaming up with friends, but I also like kicking their arse too. This seems like the best of both worlds to me.

The time restrictions on the demo do suck, but hopefully it will increase the value of the testing. In fairness, with both Titanfall and Battlefield: Hardline I'd had enough of each game before their respective Betas ended and EA lost potential sales, so Nintendo keeping it short and sweet is probably a good idea commercially.
 
All this bitching about times and time zones is ridiculous. It's very easy knowing what time zone you live in and what's the difference between yours and Eastern's and Pacific's. This should be something they teach in grade school and kids find boring because it's too easy.

Also the times are on a standard schedule system that's used by many and they're perfectly fine. When you do a global test and have three tries, you have 8h between each that way you can reach the most people from all regions. Every region will have a test during the night or early morning, during the day and during the evening.

This is a stress test that makes complete sense yet so many are complaining. I don't get it.

I hadn't heard this, and this is a big downer for me. I pretty much don't want to play any Wii U game that requires always using the gamepad. I know as with many things this may be a minority opinion, but I'd much rather use the pro controller instead and lose a little functionality.

If multiplayer online is going to require the gamepad and no other options, it's personally to the point where I would decide not buy the game, barring a patch.

*edit* Speaking of the gamepad, as always the battery dies when I leave it unplugged so I had to plug it in when I turned on the Wii U today. :P

If I was at my parents place they'd be screaming at me in spanish to get the fuck to bed and stop playing video games @ 4 am :P

They don't teach timezones in grade school or at least they just kind blow through it and never mention it again.

Ayyyyy 5am... Yea I'm gonna stay awake.

It makes me anxious that it's only an hour at a time and they haven't given us a little offline demo to get a grip on the controls. It's gonna be so frantic, but I'm looking forward to it.

Agreed,

I am pretty confident that the server will be under huge stress if not downright crash during those test (wich is to be expected), but I wonder how many people will be angry at that if it happen.

I do hope to have chance to play it for sure!
