I used a male Inkling with brown skin cause I had to lol. And now that I know flat bill caps look nice on them, I have to use it.

Jeez, tumblr is in a roll.

Dunno why people think the roller is OP. It has no range. I was making calamari out of them with the well-balanced splattershot.

This, this, this. I'm surprised at how so many people are freaking out about this.

I'm still amazed at how natural the gyro controls feel. Definitely reminds me keyboard + mouse with PC shooters. Kinda feel bad for some who can't grasp them.

I can't see Nintendo possibly implementing the super jump for the Pro Controller in a way that's acceptably on par with how quickly and easily you can execute it with the touch screen. How would you pick where you land, exactly? And how would you even scope the map to chose a landing point?
More detail of my idea:

  • Tap a button (e.g. A) to instantly toggle map display. This means you don't have to look down.
  • Have an option to make it hold-to-display map versus toggle-to-display map.
  • Make controls fully configurable like Smash Brothers so people can swap the map button if they want.
  • Once the map display is toggled, hit one of the d-pad directions to pick one of your 3 teammates. Or, use up/down on a control stick to pick one. Or, use a control stick to move a cursor (e.g. if beacons need to be selected).
  • Press A to close the map and superjump.

Other games do things like weapon wheels or scoreboard hovers.

I would VASTLY prefer the pro controller so my hand(s) / wrist(s) don't end up hurting after only an hour of playing.

Yeah, for any shooter, I prefer motion controls, though of course I do not shy away from have more options available for everyone :)

And if they somehow don't, I'll be there to take them out >:D

Not if you don't see me above you wahahahaha

Lol I don't think the levels were vertical enough where I didn't notice someone above me.

To be honest, I didn't feel a need for any voice chat when playing and coordination. Using the d-pad to ping others and getting an arrow on the screen to point you in the direction of the player's position was fine and worked surprisingly well. I should have used it more though as I mostly went off and did my own thing at first. Will listen and watch more in the future.

How many of you actually played as a guy inkling? It seemed like girls everywhere.

why would I want to play as I boy? I get enough of being a boy everyday.
They just look better and I don't care for the male hairstyle.

Only people I really saw playing as males were Japanese players.

Mine was mixed color more towards black with pink eyes.

Here's another thing you probably didn't know: While you prepare to superjump, I think you have invincibility frames. So jumping around to reenforce your buddies is encouraged, but abusing it means that the time you could've spend spraying the field with your ink is wasted on your "warp time".

Most of the time the area around your base is already painted in your color, though, so you just waste time by swimming where you want to go instead of jumping.

I didn't think the roller was a good weapon for combat, but when it came to covering some area on the ground, that was that best to choose.

Combat-wise, my choice is the Splattershot Jr. even though I thought the bombs were meh.

Weird that the other team allowed that, because they are basically invincible when they spawn, as long as they remain on the platform. Furthermore, they can still shoot and deal damage. A pair tried to span camp on me, I just laughed and splat them both.

I feel a bunch of people didn't know about this ability. My teams regularly camped the enemy spawn and got away with it as I inked up the whole map

A lot of people getting salty over the Roller I see! 'Noob weapon', indeed! Used it the most, never lost a single match, got the most kills each time on either team by a mile, always ranked first or second.

Personally I found it far better for close quarters/mid range fights than the splatter gun, just using the spray like a shotgun. Trying to steamroller people who knew what they were doing did not work, but once you work out the splatters range and arc it is lethal in a firefight. Managed to kill an entire team, and the first guy respawning and dropping back in only to get blasted again, with just the spray at one point.

Of the two Splatterguns, I preferred the Splatter jr, but neither were great for area coverage. With both of them, I felt their range was on the low side, so hopefully there'll be a longer range one in the full game, as I think I'd like that more.

The Splat Charger I only used twice, and was so so with. If I get a chance I'd like to concentrate more on it, just because I never quite found my groove on the sniping vs area covering balance. I found them easy pickings with the roller and Splatterguns too, so I'm not the only one that didn't quite get the hang of them.

Other than that, yeah, I'm vastly better with twin stick controls. Played 2 matches with gyro and was laughably bad, I just hate them.

This desperately needs Pro Controller support. The gamepad is just incredibly uncomfortable.

No connection issues, no lag, no drop outs that I noticed.

Overall, I've played better TPS's, but it's definitely a quality Nintendo game.

Tried out all the weapons for me the splatter shot jr was the best and charge shot was the worst.

Also I hope some gear in the full game will extend the length the shield stays out for.

Also, I love the roller, but...

Is there something more satisfying than activating the bubble shield right as a roller is about to splat you?

They're at your mercy and it's just soooo good.

I saw a pretty even spread of girl and guy inklings, which surprised me. I was expecting girls everywhere lol

Weird that the other team allowed that, because they are basically invincible when they spawn, as long as they remain on the platform. Furthermore, they can still shoot and deal damage. A pair tried to span camp on me, I just laughed and splat them both.

I honestly was shocked because when they switched teams the next round it almost happened to me lol

The best moment with the charge shot for me was taking out 4-5 players out in a row. One of them spawned back and super jumped in front me. Bye lol.

Made me feel powerful but it will take a lot more practice for me before I'm "good".

So you'd rather it just not be an option for anyone than something you can turn off?

Post harassment muting isn't a very good system.

See Valve's discussion on this
The most common question we get is why we added the communication ban system when we already have an in-game muting system. Shouldn’t players who don’t like what they’re hearing just mute the speaker? Ignoring the side problems around some players not knowing about muting, and that the damage is often done before you know you should mute someone else, the real problem with the muting approach is that it doesn’t provide strong feedback to the speaker. Some of our earlier data showed us that offensive players can be rehabilitated and that they manage to modify their communication so that they don’t cause negative interactions. To be able to do that though, they need to know when they’re producing negative interactions, and the communication ban system lets them know this. Our data shows this is working exactly as we hoped – many players banned eventually reach a ban free communication style, and the percentage of players being reported for communication bans is dropping over time.

That was amazing. Controls took a bit to get used to, but once I did they were super smooth. It was very fast paced, and the shootouts were intense. And it was nice to feel like I'm doing something useful even if I can't find the enemy. The Splattershot Jr. was my favorite weapon, though the regular one was good too. Didn't like the Sniper much, but other people put them to good use. Didn't try out the Roller. Shifting constantly between human and squid forms was the key to outwitting the enemy I found. Plus liberal use of grenades. Wasn't too fond of Saltspray Rig, but Walleye Warehouse was great.

My team won more often than not, and by the end I was scoring the most points overall. So I'm feeling alright about my skill for the moment. This is going to go far. I can feel it. Now I'm upgraded to a definite purchase. Can't wait for the next round.

It is a shitty reason in your opinion. I think it is a perfect valid reason to not have voice chat in the game and for that I am glad.

Pretty much. The game is fast and the matches are too short for voice chat to be truly useful.
Craziest thing I've read today. It's terrible that you would willingly choose or even be glad that voice chat was unnecessarily excluded from the game when you know sooo many people would have more fun with it.

And some wonder why we can't have nice things and why Nintendo isn't capturing more fans other than diehards. I guess what people like you are saying is "fuck 'em!" Thanks.

I was a black inkling girl and I loved it, speaking of which, I dont think I saw another black inkling besides me, and that is a lil disheartening.

I was in a game with you! Tan, but it still counts. Like the 3rd tone from the right.

At any rate, saw lots of different skin tones from rejoining.

I used a male Inkling with brown skin cause I had to lol. And now that I know flat bill caps look nice on them, I have to use it.

I used a male inkling, with brown eyes and tan skin, just like myself ;-) I was even in a match where there was only one female inkling, so I never saw any kind of bias for the female inkling yet.

I got a triple kill while the enemy team was too focused on my team and I got their backs in squid form.

I had multiple occasions where I managed to get behind the enemy team then get 2-3 kill chains from behind with the roller while they were distracted by teammates. Felt good.

I regret nothing

Can't wait for Inklings to get in smash and have an entirely roller-based moveset, to be faithful to the game.
