lol

There's no way they planned that.

Then again, this is Nintendo... we'll have to look at the other hairstyles to see if that holds true.

Sorry for the constant influx of images on my part, if its annoying let me know to stop.

Anyway, I decided to stay and wait for Round 2. Goooooooood I want to play more and I would even miss sleep if necessary, it was a great decision by Nintendo to make this on a weekend, any other day and I wouldn´t be able to join.

Missed the window. I'll TRY to make the 7am window. I wanna try this. I'm thinking this could be the game that finally gets my niece away from garden warfare.

Oh yeah I should applaud the netcode. No lag for me whatsoever.

Shamelessly stolen from Twitter.

*Voice chat in Splatoon*

"Yo you see that purple ink on the map"

"Yeah?"

"Put some green ink on that shit"

"Aight sherlock"

In most cases like tonight it would probably amount to that or not anyone talking but there would be some exceptions.

Plus the voice chat is mostly for teamplay so I hope it's there in friend matches. That's where I'd want it the most.

Still the demo did show me it's not necessary for general play as the game's real fun without it.

The entire point of the game is to shoot the ground though.

I had absolutely no problem with Gyro controls haha. Was very accurate the whole time, only time it ever even felt weird was when I needed to turn around, and I'm sitting there turning in my seat instead of the stick.

If anyone is just shooting the ground then they just have some really weak hands or some shit.

I agree with you 100% and have been dying the same thing in other threads. The Gamepad functionality is forced and could easily be am on screen toggle like you described.

My hands hurt now too. That stupid Gamepad is so uncomfortable and is holding back my purchase. I LOVED what I played tonight and kept getting angry that the uncomfortable controller kept interfering with the fun.

I wonder what the best way to make suggestions or give feedback to Nintendo is.

Just find the best way to balance it on your lap and that should alleviate uncomfortableness.

Could someone explain this "Wryyyyy" reference to me? It's the second time I've seen it.

Digital or Physical?!

I seriously dont know...I mean I like the boxart and the disc is probably going to have some cool art as well...but having it on the system whenever and being on point day 1 is tempting.

Yep. That's a great summation of why people want voice chat.
/s

That's largely the main objective of the game. Killing only does so much and there are often grounds in which the battles take place like the center of the map where people are trying to dominate and move forward. It only takes an instance to see that on the map and for a player to go to other areas that no one else is noticing to cover.

Eh, if anything voice chat would help more than most games in this since you have a map right on the gamepad.

I usually get bored of shooters pretty fast and don't play them long enough to really learn the maps. When my friends and I play if we try to coordinate it always turns out like "Shit, there's two guys over by the fountain!"
"Where?"
"You know, the courtyard thing, fuck, they saw me, come to the area with the trucks!"
"Ah damn, how do I get there again? Never mind you're dead."

Whereas in Splatoon it would be really easy to say "Hey, someone go fill in that hallway in the lower left corner."

Clearly if two teams were otherwise evenly matched except one time had voice chat, that team would dominate.

Yeah I mean, God forbid I want voice chat to just talk to friends as we laugh and play a game. That's insane!

Of course ignoring that every multiplayer shooter is actually conceptually simple, but casuals are dumb and sometimes giving them some direction might be handy.

Random strangers won't even bother read the pings or the chat why would they bother with voice chat ?

Yeah, I'm beaing salty because I'm playing HOTS at the moment xD

Also known as pinging. But seriously, do the people complaining about voice chat even play team-based multiplayer games? Sure it is sometimes more fun when you are with friends, but there is very few times when voice chatting with randoms help or happens at all. In my 500+ hours of BF3/BF4, I've only had about 2 random squadmates use voice (grant it, BF has objective orders/flagging). And in MOBAs voice chat is not needed at all. Of course, those games all have some sort of ping system while Splatoon doesn't. But Splatoon doesn't have that many objectives also.

I understand how console players can complain about gyro controls, because they'd probably also complain about KB/M. The KB/M people complaining though...to me, motion control aiming is less intuitive than KB/M and Light Guns, but way more intuitive than control sticks. I thought I heard some Playstation Move game possibly having to have separate servers for control methods because the Move players dominated the stick users.

Good point about voice chat and I do think pinging would actually be the superior choice for communicating.

I also think the gyro controls complaint is overblown(gyro ftw). This reminds me of the Kid Icarus Uprising debate and sure enough some people have already said that the dual analogue controls are too sluggish.

We members of Team Voice Chat are just going to have to let it go. People will go way out of their way to excuse lack of voice chat, but there's not much we can do. I point to examples of how voice chat works in games like say, Team Fortress 2 Capture Point maps, where calling out locations, damage dealt, when to push, when to fall back, are all key parts of the game, but some just don't seem to get it. As if the option of voice chat would be criminal.

Random play for Splatoon is going to be a party game, but competitive scene will remedy those woes.

My heart says physical as always, but this game will have a lot of extra content with updates and DLC, making the physical edition not very tempting...
Anyways, I'm going physical...

The only thing that kinda sucks is that it'll take 2 months for GAF matches to actually exist. But...I guess random teams might be good until everyone gets situated? The one thing I never liked about parties is running into a steamroll crew.

If they are casual you are hardcore? :P

When the demo ended, I checked my Friend List and saw that 15 folks had been playing the game. I wonder if Nintendo will make some image showing how many people played over the weekend and how many gallons of ink were shot or something.

Totally forgot that the girl amiibo unlocks sniper challenges and the boy amiibo roller challenges. Now I have to get the boy amiibo.

Exactly, the main reason I want voice chat is because I'm playing with friends or other people in general, not CPU and I want to feel like that. Its a social experience not always about winning just having fun.

All I really did was share a joke that I thought was funny because of how accurate it is in most cases about the game. Complain to this person https://twitter.com/Jiikae/status/596889216035979267

I could have sworn, someone pinged in the game because I saw an arrow pointing in a direction at the bottom of the screen once, probably when they taunted.

Quick question, can I play this without a TV? I've got no TV hooked up to my Wii U currently as I had moved it to be in my room instead of the living room. I was hoping to play this with only the gamepad. :(

I feel like the matches need to be a bit longer. In a match I'm havining so much fun playing that when the count down happens I'm like 'wut already?" and then I check the map only to see my entire team wiped out lol.

A hardcore gamer will find a way whether its implement or not. Like skype or a phone call. In fact, it would be better tha way, because they wouldn't have to worry about trouble with other people.
I wasn't aware that voice chat was trouble in most games. I was fairly certain there's a glorious thing called a mute button.

This demo isn't compatible for Off-TV play. Not sure about the full game.

I'm worried a lack of voice chat combined with no parties until August may kill any chances of there being competitive community.

I found them to be perfect length, keeping things on point for quick action. I think if they went any longer it could mess with the flow.

A hardcore gamer will have every console and just use the competitors for party chat... unless your friends are casuals meaning you play with casual in the long run so nothing gained or lost.

Anyone else really love the music during matchmaking? I know there's not a huge reggae fanbase on GAF, but the chill reggae vibe during matchmaking was fantastic. Hope there's more of that in the game. I liked the cheesy rock music as well.

I had my friends over, so we rotated between matches. We had a blast, and the only friend of mine who owns a Wii U was sold on buying it. We'll get a lot of mileage out of this game for sure.

Wasn't trying to complain about your post, just sayin' voice chat would be nice =)

Damnit had no idea it was today. Set an alarm for tomorrow.

Biggest compliment I can give this game is I'm considering waking up at 4 to play the 4-5am time slot.
