One of the matches was against a team of 4 rollers.

Got 8/1 with the splatershot lol

If they are close, you're dead, but if you see them at distance, you always win :p

Only ran into lag in the final session; spontaneously dying to the enemy I killed 3 seconds prior, among a few lesser instances.

As much as I expected to be fine with gyroscope controls in this game I really hated it. I don't understand why the gyroscope controls have to be enabled when you're not shooting, and I really don't understand why vertical camera movement is locked exclusively to gyroscope when it's enabled. Gyroscope controls should be supplementary to the analog controls, but instead it was just a hindrance a lot of the time.

If you could set it to only activate when you're shooting for subtle aim changes and have full (vertical) analog control with it then it'd be much better..

They can't make their own vertical paths though, so they can be pretty easy to outflank.

I gotta get better at using the roller shotgun blast though, I always forget it exists

Yeah, that's absolutely key. I was using it constantly this time and was doing even better than in the first session. Crucial in a 1v1 situation.

Pretty fun in terms of gameplay, but I had quite a few connection errors when playing. And multiple games ended early because of disconnections as well. That's what all this was for though I'm sure (testing servers), but I feel like it isn't even a good idea of how it'd be at launch since it was a free demo and only for 1 hour each time. I guess good for stress testing, though.

The roller was definitely my best weapon out of the ones I tried.

Happened to me as well. at first i thought my connection had some problem. Hope the servers are a bit more stable towards launch.

Maybe you just got bad Chargers? Chargers probably require the most "skill" out of the weapons in the testfire. But, they are able probably able to move around the maps the fastest and one shot kill from moderate ranges. Creating a straight line for you and your teamates to get around is quite useful.

Oh, they can definitely be useful, but they're a real "support" type more than snipers often end up being in other games where people are no-scoping and shit. They are good for moving the team forward and preventing an advance but they paint soooo slowly.

I think having one is optimal. When you have multiples you just don't have enough "team" to make use of their support abilities.

Would have been better with a normal controller. Gryo is nonsense but the GamePad does not do Dual Analogue well for me. Uncomfortable overall. Game has a lot of promise. I wish I could change classes mid-match. You know like any other class-based shooter. The movement up surfaces wasn't as smooth as I would have liked. Still, it's pretty rad to either launch at the frontline or swim to defend something your teammates are ignoring.

How will you launch somewhere without the Gamepad? It would need you to pause the game, ruining the flow it has now.

One curious question... what does the position on the starting thing signify? I was always front and center in the first hour, then in the second hour I wasn't in maybe two games. This last session I wasn't in the very first round, and I was in the front every other round.

Is it based on weapon choice? Connection? I wonder, because it sure doesn't seem random.

At first I thought it always showed you front and center, but that's not it. Anyone know?

Rollers are just as mobile as anyone else. If they're just trying to bullcharge you, they're bad. There's still a skill gap between users even if the weapon is easy to pick up.

This. I mained roller the whole time and I learned to be flexible. Dive in paint, jump around, resurface near ppl and smack them or roll. Just all kinds of stuff you can do. If rollers are trying to roll towards someone who is fully aware and have distance and are praying they can roll over thr gunner before they die THAT'S dumb.

They can actually still make a path to climb a wall even if it's a little weird. Usually takes 2-3 splats. They can also still take advantage of high ground and splatter from above, or use the super move thing. I got a triple kill on the rig map at the top by placing that aimed down to cover a huge distance, lol.

It's also a really powerful weapon to flank with, or even just hide in ink as you see someone coming since you can come out and instantly kill them before they react.

Lost one game 46.4% to 46.5%, it was a fantastic match. Other than the default controls being weird this game is just as fun as I'd hoped, although I did have a couple matches with bad spawn-camping with the smg/shield thing. Hopefully there's some way to defeat that I just don't know about yet...

*Hear roller is OP* *Kill 3 Roller user at the same time* Hmm

My boy the splat Jr deals with rollers no problem even easier when u bait them and then use your shield lol

If u stay on ur spawn pad your invisible killed a few squids who tired to spawn camp

This is just soooooooooo much fun! Online was perfect: no lag like I was playing local. I'm not a FPS scrub, but I know it was smooth enough for me.

I first started playing with analog sticks after the practice stage and, I sucked hard. Inverted the Vertical Axis... Still sucked. Reduced sensibility. Still sucked. The moment I started to use the gyroscope for aiming, it went MUCH MUCH better. I really like those controls! I would really like to get accustomed again to dual sticks but Ninty's stick aren't for that.

I won 4 out of probably 10-15 matches.

I hope that Splatoon is a success!

P.S The last TPS I played was Jet Force Gemini. Hahaha.

Looks fun, watched some streams. Did have it preordered but I dunno, less content than Titanfall and I felt ripped off with it and they're both the same price (launch).

This game screams digital only to me and I feel like they're charging too much. I hope it does well though and I hope people love it.
There is an actual single player mode here.

Whenever I ran into someone head-on, I usually disengaged as fast as I could. That's a toss-up fight, and I'm not doing 50/50 odds. I can't paint when I'm dead. With the Splattershot Jr. I'm not going to face a Splattershot, Roller, or Charge Gun in open combat. I'm gonna squid and get out of there. Or if the shield is up, do that. Then charge like a mad-squid.

I look forward to seeing what weapons are in the full version. I'm not locked into Splattershot Jr. just from this, but it's definitely my favorite of the four we had here.

By the way, inkling hair goes super saiyan and fiery if they have a super ready, so rollers don't charge jnrs with flaming hair or your going to have a rough day

I can't wait for ranked battles and then everyone in my room will be a high level. I wonder if the rank scores (C-A+) just give you points towards your rank, or if losing actually decreases your rank score so that it's possible rank down. Knowing Nintendo, I think doing bad in a rank battle will just give you 0 points towards your rank, rather than ranking you down. I just hope the high ranks are filled with great players.

I dunno, I want to like the game but this demo was too short. I think I'll check it out come launch for the story mode and the extra modes/gameplay additions. I also felt that the controls could use some tweaking especially for the non motion controls.

I need my Splatoon fix now! Loved it. What are the chances of them allowing early access to the full game if you order it on the eShop? Didn't they do that once with Super Luigi U?

There also wasn't any lag in my games, and I should not that I was playing on wifi. I'm guessing it was hit or miss for some.

Swimmy RS aiming aside (is that just the controller?), had a lot of fun with this.

Not sure if I'll buy it at launch or not, don't want to burn out on the multiplayer before it has a decent amount of maps/modes.

I managed to reach the 9th stage of the Jump Squid minigame. Perhaps, I could go even further but I matchmaking was way faster at the last few games.

The roller is the best at gaining ground, but it is the worst at defending it. It can go around mopping up all day, but that territory is easy pickings if they're not taken by surprise. The roller can't do anything to attacks from a range or higher elevation, nor can they do the same to other people.

Case in point, I managed to create a path to the top of the structures in the Rig map within the first few seconds of a round, and used that to get extremely easy access to the center territory. Rollers were shot down from a distance even before they could react. They couldn't get rid of the path because it was on a wall, and if they attempted to wave their roller around they were simply shot down. Eventually we got to a point where they barely could do anything after respawn since they were just going to get bombed or shot at.

One thing I noticed today is that not many people use the squid form. I saw my teammates get obliterated by grenades way too much because they tried to escape running. The squid is so quick that it's perfect for escapes, especially if you se the Splatshotter Jr (AKA best weapon).

So are any of the splatoon amiibos available for preorder in NA? Or will they ever be? Or will it just be a stampede to every store on launch day?
