I thought Wii U saves were inherently tied to the selected Mii user?

The developer has a choice to store on user or system level. Most things in Smash are stored on system level (which IMO is frustrating), while MK8 stores everything on user level.

I used to have one, it never failed me.

I just use Wifi now as I never have latency issues, I have a nice ass router though. I would use a wired connection but with how everything is placed here I would actually have to do some wiring work.

Got one of these behind my TV, and a single port one by my router, which I can recommend, and avoids running cables:
amazon.com

It's only got 100mb ports unfortunately, but transfer speeds are still loads better than 300mb WiFi. AC is probably faster but I found the range to be pretty feeble.

I still think this game was wrongly priced.

Not because it is not worth $60, but rather because being a new franchise on a failed console and not having the full content at launch, it should get all the help it can to be successful. Plus, I believe that amiibo sales would make up for a lower MSRP.

I got a few questions and figured I'd ask in here. If this is the wrong thread then sorry!

1) Do we know if the game will allow for multiple character saves?

Like if I want to do my own create a character can my kids each create their own too for when they play?

2) Do we know if the game will allow for 2 player split screen ONLINE MP?

Like can 2 people play online together from the same console?

1) I don't think we know this yet. If there isn't an in-game option, then you can use the system option to create an account for them on the WiiU, which will have it's own save games associated with it. I'd expect you would need to do this for online play anyway, as online tends to associate with your NNID, rather than a save file.

2) Not announced, and not expected. Might turn up in the future if they add an in-game sub-menu to allow full Pro-controller support without the gamepad. Don't count on it. I'm probably going to buy an extra WiiU for my home, but I'm lucky enough to have a good broadband connection/contract to support it.

It's weird that it's 60$ for you guys while it actually is a 40€ game here in Europe.

No matter what I would have cords running over my floor. My desk is in the middle of my room and my wii u is on it. I would have to run the cord around edges up a wall and dangle it down to the wii u. I don't play on my tv it's always in use by someone else.

Ah, that's a bit tricky for cables then. I'm quite lucky and have a cabinet to poke the big nest of wires behind. Really wish the Wii U power brick was a bit thinner.

Ugh I was afraid of this. It's not terrible, but it's just a general PITA for me.

I can vouch for this one, had a really minimal amount of lag during the Testfire, and download speeds are good. Quite a bit cheaper than the official one:

amazon.com
Thanks to both of you. Hopefully the adapter will help with the disconnects, which is the only issue I had with the online in Splatoon :)

I tried finding a desk with a cord cabinet. I went everywhere that would have nice desks here but no one carries desks with cord cabinets that aren't made of the finest oak and cost 1000$+.

I hear ya. It's as if the folks designing furniture can't imagine that someone would want to have a console/computer running on a desk, and not have cables absolutely everywhere! It's the same with TV cabinets.

I've got a computer desk with an intricate series of velcro straps holding the cables up the back so I don't hit cables with my feet. Behind my TV is just a mass of cables since I've got like 4 devices that all need power, a connection to the TV, and most are hooked into the power line adapter for network. I've got a switched 6-gang just to power everything.

I can see having one roller player going at it to cover everything while the rest defend him and go in the offensive against the other players, not allowing them to do anything. And as you go on the offensive your ink is still covering the ground as well

Smash is weird that way because of its massive local focus, like Nintendoland. Most other nintendo games are user level.

It wasn't a particularly formal plan, but that happened somewhat in the rig on one go where we had a roller in the northern plaza with defense stationed at the chokepoint.

Heh, I ordered one as well. The Splatoon thirst is real.

You'd think Super Smash Bros would be the game to get me to wire up my Wii U's network. Or even Mario Kart since I got that bundled with it, but nope. Splatoon.

Yeah, really lol.

I might just rearrange everything if I really end up needing to.

yep, very fun testfires, played two of them, very smooth experience overall, I am in withdrawall now however... can't wait 19 days....

After enjoying the second and third test and mulling it over, here is my wishlist for Splatoon in terms of things I'd like to to see them add as updates later down the line:

- Bigger size variations of the maps that allow for either 6 vs 6 or 8 vs 8 team battles or battles between 3 or 4 teams consisting of 4 players. (Just imagine the ink chaos with three or four colors being used!)
- More maps than 5 (though this has at least been confirmed) and ideally a faster rotation between two (or three) options to choose between. (And why not include an Isle Delfino inspired map as well by the way, or something with Mario style green pipes and/or DK style girders?)
- Maybe a way to choose or even customize your team's ink color?
- An offline version of the multiplayer mode that allows me to practice against bots, possibly in local co-op as well (which is something that will ensure that the game remains fully playable when the online community moves on or the servers die down).
- A way to play online multiplayer together on one Wii U ala Mario Kart 8 (seeing as the 1 vs 1 mode already enables this control wise).
- Some kind of separate four player splitscreen offline (asynchronous asymmetrical?) multiplayer mode akin to older Mario Kart's battle modes or that Mario Chase game from Nintendo Land.
- A more traditional online (& offline) multiplayer mode focused on kills instead of painting turf (i.e. where painting your turf would be for tactical / speedy movement benefit only, but where points come mainly from the kills - I do realize it goes against the spirit of this game in a way, but why not give people who like to primarily shoot others the option to do so?).
- Maybe a way to choose an Octoling (the human version) as well instead of just Inklings?
- Perhaps a way to incorporate a few of the single player movement hazards / tools (like the streams of paint that can transport you in squid form, etc) into some of the multiplayer stages to offer a few more fast movement options? (Vice versa I hope that single player stages will allow you to be creative with your weapons and sub-weapons - though I believe this might be restricted quite heavily at least in your initial playthrough.)
- Some way to use a FLUDD type device (as Mario or not) to clean away the ink with water, perhaps as a bonus mode between rounds or as a separate mode (Not that the game needs it, but not doing any single sort of crossover with Mario Sunshine seems like a waste imo).
- A bit more range on the sensitivity toggle to allow for even lower sensitivity (since I struggled quite a bit with the stick controls in terms of not having my reticule fly al over the place even when lowering it to -5).

Not sure how realistic some of these things are, and whether others here agree with my wishes (I'm sure most won't...), but I'd say the more options they give us to play this fantastic game, the better as long as all of it is streamlined and explained well enough as not to splinter the user base of course. I can't wait for the 29th and to see which things they already have planned up till August!

Weird place to have to ask (doing it only since this is the generally more active Splatoon thread) but is there any place online where you can accurately find regional MSRP for games? Need it for OT purposes.

Asynchronous refers to doing things at different times. Ghosts in Mario Kart or the spirits of the fallen players in the Souls games are variations on that. Or Facebook games where you can send your friends stuff. That is asynchronous (= not in sync) multiplayer.

What you mean is asymmetric multiplayer which is multiple players playing the same game but doing different things. Metroid Blast in Nintendo Land is a prime example for that. One player flying the Gunship, the other controlling a Mii with a gun (or your Mario Kart example).

The Nintendo eShop?

Edit: It's indeed listed as €39.99 on the European eShop (Euro zone).

I hear one needs to be 14yo squid-human to play this.

Corrected it - thanks! Your examples are what I had in mind indeed.

For Splatoon I could imagine a mode where one person controls a FLUDD(-like) wearing character who has to clean up the ink splattered by three regular Inklings. Or vice versa in which the gamepad player has to tag certain objects while the others have to work together to clean these tags up or prevent them from happening. Or maybe something with one player being invisible and having to be found by being splattered with ink ala Unfinished Swan or some of the single player elements we've seen where the floor is invisible. Man, this game's concept could lead to so many modes that I can only hope they are willing to expand on the existing ones over time (or in a sequel).

Me pre-global testfire:

"Game looks cool. I hope it's successful, but I'm not so sure I'll bother getting it.

Me post-global testfire:

"This game is the most exciting and addictive mp game I've played since I got addicted to Gears in '09!"
*pre-orders game*
*pre-orders Splatoon amiibo 3-pack*
*votes for inkling in Smash*

I've not been addicted to a single mp game since Gears. I need this game NOW!

I'm so sorry about missing this being away from town. But I really enjoyed the comments here, although I couldn't always keep pace with the speed of this thread. I think this thread was at points quite similar in speed with the MK8 threads. Which is a nice thing.

As a general comment regarding the people asking "what's wrong with having options", I would say that while there is nothing wrong in itself, any option means development time and as long as the default options are very workable and fine for most of the people, I would rather see those resources put into content development first. More maps, modes, weapons and gears are always better than optional controller support or having B as the jump button. After more than enough content is there, additional options are very welcomed.

I do agree with this, despite my wishes for more options and modes. The core game should first be polished and expanded upon before more things are added indeed. That said, I do hope Nintendo plans on keeping a more open line of communication with this game's (fast growing?) fanbase about updates as this would suit such a community focused, "young" game like this quite well I feel.

Sorry you had to miss the tests by the way, although this might be a blessing in disguise since this way you don't yet know what you're missing until the 29th (assuming you hadn't played it before elsewhere like me). Many of us seem to have withdrawal symptoms already...

Hasn't the Nintendo EAD's design philosophy always been to have a really small yet functional option set? MK8 don't even have an option to mix the in-game sound/music levels, although that has been widely requested by players, and that's not a particularly resource-intensive thing to add. The Nintendo-published games that aren't created by the EADs (such as Smash, Hyrule Warriors, the Platinum games) often has much more options than the EAD products.

I was suddenly wondering, since the demo started with a message saying the game contains 'product placement' but have we actually seen any besides the in-game brandings? I wonder what kinda stuff will get advertised.

My assumption is the "product placement" Nintendo meant is the pre-order link for the full game. The demo is so cut down and streamlined that I think this notice would've been cut too if it referred to product placement fashion brands in the full game.

While it's not mentioned in the Testfire client, amiibo would qualify as product placement.

Whoever will make the OT, please put in the rules : no voice chat drama, please because it has already been discussed deeply (once when the dev made a declaration and now with the IGN article).

NotLiquid is doing the OT. I'm thinking about sending him a PM with a list of suggestions for mandatory info to avoid lots of confusion/drama^^
