Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Yup, Canada

It really stung knowing this game was a budget release I believe in Europe, and $59.99 in the U.S. meanwhile up North we had to pay $69.99 for just the regular edition

Forget about the amiibos, the game was expensive enough on it's own tbh

yeah I'm in the US so it was pretty lame

I've already got my money's worth though, lol

I've played more Splatoon than I have Mario Kart 8 and one has been out for over a week and one has been out for over a year

It's not the easiest sell without playing. I probably would have held off if not for the global testfire.
Took me one minute of gameplay from last years E3 to "get it". Well, if you are interested in great mechanics I guess. Some of them are playing The Order instead...

Yeah I couldn't believe that it was cheaper here in Europe lol usually we pay double than the US

As for the person talking about single player unlocks. The boss scrolls are the only ones that unlock weapons and such. You also can get blueprints from amiibo challenges. The weapons with the green icon in the weapons shop are the weapons that unlock via scrolls

Tried this on a couple of friends (owning Wii U) and the only response besides "looks like it could be kinda fun" was silence. I hate my friends.
Ya, sadly that's probably how most people would react. If it doesn't have ripped dudes shooting some other ripped dudes with badass guns - they're not interested. Saddening.

Perhaps it's because this is my first serious WiiU online game, but it seems strange that my Mii ID is being used in game rather than my Nintendo ID. Anyway to swap these? I was tipped off when I saw a team mate called "Dads Mii"

Not that I'm aware of. Changing your mii name to match your ID would work if you want that to be shown?

Since I haven't started getting into ranked yet, I've thought about changing my Mii name to WallPainter and just do that all match, every match, while also hammering "booyah" as much as I can.

The exact reason I am glad we don't have voice chat. I don't need people who are taking the game way to serious to be freaking out constantly about people they think are shitty.
I'm fine with people not wanting to use voice chat but giving us an option to at least have a group chat sp you can communicate with friends would be perfect.

I heard rumors that in August they are going to have some kind of party system in place hope it's true. Joining Friends but being put on another team blows

Group chat would be great for friends and all. I just don't want to join in a group of randoms and hear someone raging all the time haha.

Dammit! I got here to late to post that! That's my thing in this thread!

-his sole job has been taken-

Guess i'll still have ViviOggi's Display Pic to play around with.

Also, reposting these because it is once again true:

hahaha, I searched your posts in the last OT thread to find it ;p

I understand for random, but it does seem odd to have no voice chat during friends matches.

I also agree with MouldyK, **** Arowana Mall like seriously!

Yeah I was freaking out at a couple people for doing this. Then I started doing it because I realized it's an amazing way to charge a super weapon in no time. I do this all the time now, it's so damn useful. I can't speak for the K/D ratio though :p. I still end up going 14/2, so feel free to yell at actual slackers, however there is a reason for painting turf outside the zones.

yup, arowana mall is the worst

aka I don't like changing my setup just because that map is in rotation
The grates and the water below them is what ruins it for me. I always have to stop myself from going squid form when I'm on the grates - then there's always the panic that I'm going to fall through when I tap the squid and quickly release realizing I'm on a grate. It blows.

there's also a lot of strategic areas to control aside from the splat zone. like on port mackerel everyone always beelines right for the splat zones. meanwhile I'm inking up that entire middle section, every lane. then I can just zip around and fuck shit up. taking the zone right at the beginning doesn't mean a thing if you're surrounded by my ink.

And this is why this game needs some kind of party system so I can play with people who know what they are doing lol

I like the small buffer they built in where if you're quick enough to go "whoops" and let go, you don't fall all the way through. I think it's just enough to not be annoying when you're actually trying to fall through, but still enough to save you.

Yeah and since I use the Glorious, Almighty N-Zap, people with higher range (see: Everyone) can shoot me from grates while I can't escape.

Yeah, that specially trips me up on single player. I had many a death because I forgot squids fall through grates.

I think what trips me up is to get on the other side of the map, you have to squid jump up the middle and I am not used to moving around in that form yet. Plus once a team has 50% of the map then it is over. It is really one-sided compared to other maps.

invite them to your place. Let them play some rounds. Splatoon aka playing is believing.

Here are many users, who were excited after playing the demo while they were not interested before

That's part of the gear balance, if you could just pop main abilities onto the most beneficial brands you'd easily get near perfect pieces. I imagine they put a lot of thougnt into which combinations would be too strong to include. What they could do though is add a Blizzard-style transmogrification option which lets people apply only the cosmetic look of one piece to another.
The problem is that it's currently killing any creativity in regards to outfits people use online. Literally everyone is running around with that white anchor t-shirt, the rainbow shoes and gasmask because those main skills are simply better than everything else for the slot and give clear advantages unlike other stuff. Against a bunch of level 20 players today it was pretty noticeable that they knew exactly where I was when swimming, yet I don't know where they were which was a horrible disadvantage to have to overcome when using a brush.

Transmogrification would obviously be ideal, but not an idea I can ever see Nintendo implementing. Being able to pay Spyke to re-roll the main ability would be the best solution I could hope that they'd ever add.

I disagree. The north platform is the key point. No one ever goes to the south/middle platforms - only the side paths. Getting a good hold on the north point and getting there before the other team can win you the game easily.

I actually like arowana ranked. Placing a splash wall on the bridges and watching the enemy panic squid into the abyss is a great feeling.

Yeah I realized this my very first match in ranked. We had captured the zone and after a while I noticed no one from the other team was trying to attack us. Then they all showed up and used their specials at once

Painting turf to get your super in ranked is perfectly acceptable early and mid game.

Painting turf to get your super in late-game is you being an idiot and begging to lose.

My friend found the game interesting and after playing it at EGX, we got excited for it even though she has no Wii U.

I even made the sensitivity +1 for her so I had to adjust to that from -1 so we could take turns without switching a lot. (she does not approve of the N-Zap though...which is where she fails in life...)

Try showing them this trailer: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XHlgKMUePck

Us Brits don't ****ing sing. We game!

Oh definitely. I just never thought to really paint the starting area for a while until I needed a desperate ink tornado and realized how key that unmarked turf can be.

I think both can be viable. I should note that I play mostly with the custom splattershot jr. for me getting to those platforms would be worthless except to spam disruptor bombs at the opposing team. I need to be mobile and on the ground.

This feeling when you retake the central zone of the mall by yourself and allow your team to come back from a 100-9 situation and win

Spyke:

- hangs out in an alley
- listens to punk rock
- looks strung out all the time
- named "Spyke"
- always asking you for money

I think he is addicted to heroin

I've made lyrics to the 2nd multiplayer song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hnOf5pHFiB4

TEN DAYS AGO
I MADE THIS SONG
BECAUSE OF YOUUUUUUU
I realize that you can't be fooled
I can have this sentiment too
Don't feel low so you can get by
save myself from youuuuuu.
No kindness within empty eyes
save myself from youuuuuu.

(You said "go..go..gogogo I can go go goodbye")
(I say "No no no no no I can stay, You Go!")
(You say "Bye bye... B...bye bye, watch me go" and then go)
(And I think "Wh..wh..why why why" every time you go)
(I say "go..go..gogogo you can go go goodbye")
(Then I think "No no no no no don't go!")

I realize that you can't be fooled
I can't believe...
TEN DAYS AGO

I'm literally never going to hear anything else when this song (my personal second favorite behind VS Mode 4, I just love the guitar hit midway through the song) plays now. Thanks. :lol

Why doesn't this game have replays that you can share over Miiverse

Nintendo you dumb

I seriously wish for this so much with every passing day. There are too many individual moments full of crazy shit and emergent situations than the mind can process when in the fray and I'd love a MKTV-esque system of seeing the full scope of battle from different angles.

I got 109 YEAHS for my post about Splatoon. The peak of my Nintendo-related accomplishments.

I made this but looking at it now, I really wish if instead of going for that I had just committed to using the contrast better and stylized the writing more. Also, the "s.Q.U.I.d city" line got smushed under the Good Kid part. :lol

Man, Uniqlo in the UK needs to get on this Splatoon hype and make some shirts.

I seriously want Nintendo to partner with Uniqlo & Converse for some Splatoon gear. It helps that the large majority of Splatoon's iconography lends itself well to some stylish but form functional clothing. Converse would get some options in their "build your own" section for things like dog tags with the cute squids all over it, paint splatters and maybe some of the designer "names" on parts of the shoe.

You guys know anything about capture cards or know where to start looking? Kind of want to record Splatoon gameplay but I'm not sure what I need.

I'd also be interested in answers to this. Splatoon is seriously making me consider getting an Elgato HD60 to record matches with. Maybe I'll even stream some stuff from time to time with sibling reactions so GAF can see how crazy we get with games from time to time. :lol

He's addicted to eating those poor little snails.

Seriously go look. They're shivering with fear, and then on the other side of him the shells are empty and there's a screwdriver at his feet.

That would explain why people can easily get Kraken when I play online.
Supers must come way easier on higher ranks.

Yeah, this video puts things into more perspective.
Too bad the game itself doesn't explain this...
