Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

I'm glad I finally managed to get a few games of Turf War in. Finding a game is still arbitrary at best, so I'm trying to hold myself over with amiibo challenges and local multiplayer until I can get a new router. At least the challenges are entertaining enough and allow me to save up on some money for future gear purchases.

I think I'm going to just ignore the concept of ranked and play Splatzones for fun. I can't deal with these teams and disconnects, but ranked itself is super fun.

Yes, even in Arowana Mall.

I'm literally never going to hear anything else when this song (my personal second favorite behind VS Mode 4, I just love the guitar hit midway through the song) plays now. Thanks. :lol

I seriously wish for this so much with every passing day. There are too many individual moments full of crazy shit and emergent situations than the mind can process when in the fray and I'd love a MKTV-esque system of seeing the full scope of battle from different angles.

I made this but looking at it now, I really wish if instead of going for that I had just committed to using the contrast better and stylized the writing more. Also, the "s.Q.U.I.d city" line got smushed under the Good Kid part. :lol

I seriously want Nintendo to partner with Uniqlo & Converse for some Splatoon gear. It helps that the large majority of Splatoon's iconography lends itself well to some stylish but form functional clothing. Converse would get some options in their "build your own" section for things like dog tags with the cute squids all over it, paint splatters and maybe some of the designer "names" on parts of the shoe.

I'd also be interested in answers to this. Splatoon is seriously making me consider getting an Elgato HD60 to record matches with. Maybe I'll even stream some stuff from time to time with sibling reactions so GAF can see how crazy we get with games from time to time. :lol

My wife uses an HD60 to stream and when it works, it works great. Problem is, it doesn't work that often. At least with it's own software. There seems to be a memory leak in their software that only comes up when using the WiiU that we have noticed. When first started everything is smooth but the longer she streams, the more bogged down it gets until it either locks up or can't render at 60fps, then 30fps.

We are toying with other software now like OBS and hoping that will fix the issue as we don't think the hardware is at fault, just their crappy capture/ streaming software.

This is how I feel most times. I feel like a non-ranked SplatZone would probably be my favorite option out of the two modes at current.

Hmm, good to know. Do keep us informed of how the software side of thing treats you. BTW, what do file sizes look like for most of the footage you capture? My laptop is filling up fast and I don't know the ins and outs of streaming through Twitch for the sake of keeping archives just yet.

So, it's best to have 6 abilities then?

3 Main ones and 3 Sub ones with 3 points each.

Yes, even in Arowana Mall.

I don't know you anymore!

Doing the same really

I picked up the Prima guide, because it seemed like it had nice pictures and it would be good bathroom reading. It has some good info on the weapons and items. It gives tactical information on the game modes for each map, gives game tester loadouts and suggestions for abilities to use with some weapons types. It explains a lot of stuff that isn't obvious about weapons and abilities.

Hopefully when the userbase is bigger they'll put all modes in both Regular and Ranked without fearing splitting up the userbase too much.

Splat has changed me. Even though Splat never changes. But yeah, it's super fun but falling from B- to C+ and with 40 points now is just disencouraging. Now I'll be super zen-like, who cares about rank?

I think I may get some tips from Spyke on how to relax

~73 here

Damn, only 35 here. I need to play more!
(Though I also played a lot of Bayonetta since Splatoon's launch for some reason, lmao)

This game is so much fun it's bloomin ridiculous lol. And it's as addictive as crack cocaine.

I'm thinking about going to my nearest hospital and 'borrowing' an IV line because I'm wasting too much time cooking and eating food rather than playing Splatoon lol

And thank fuck for no voice chat too!!!

I really like some of the design choices they've made, particularly with the length of games and the levelling up situation. Both of those design decisions are what gives the game its 'Just one more go' factor. The levelling up system is slow enough to prevent it being too easy but not so slow that it becomes frustrating.

Nintendo are onto a winner here with this IP, this game is going to sell a shitload imo.

lol, this would help me out a lot too

I'll be playing and then look at the time and be like "yeah, it's 9:30pm I should maybe eat some dinner or something...........ok one more match"

So what does everyone think of the gold dynamo roller in ranked?

That shit is so powerful. The balance of it makes sense in turf war but since you barely move around in ranked the attack distance and ink spread is so powerful.

I've played 60 hours of Splatoon since launch.

What the hell

Hello.

My name is Azure J.

And I am a Squid Kid.

I legitimately do not know how I poured this much time into the game already. Even more impressively is that I still have been taking care of other things and looking for a new job at the same time.

Oh wow. So attack up is useless then? If you can't go below the shots to kill then it'll only have an effect if someone has a def up ability.

I believe a recent development in the meta for the game is that attack up is essential and awesome for chargers, because normally a full charge is necessary for a one hit kill, but attack up reduces the time you need to spend charging up for it to be a kill. Charge only halfway etc.

Makes sense for a charger as it's minimum hits to kill is always 1 so more attack means a higher damage at lower charge meaning faster kills. For most other weapons it seems a little useless. I didn't think about charges though, it's good there.

looking for a new job at the same time.

Damn, that's so few times you turned it on! I've turned the game on like 60 times now over 80 hours.

I need to look for a job, but am afraid of getting an interview during E3 time.

But it feels like i'm unwinding from Splatoon a bit now, so maybe I can find a couple hours a day to look online.

Good luck to you!

Was hoping the guy would go on a lot more detail on the actual number behing abilities like the run speed 25% boost.

Like how much defense does Defrnse up boost.

Also, I guess I missed it, could you stack like 3 main abilities and 9 sub abilities to go super super fast?

Are sub abilities also diminished in returns?

Also, what the fuck at attack up.

I'm weird in that whenever I get a chance to play, I play for really long amounts of time (with some minor idling here and there, like 10% of the total time is probably AFK time). I've always been like that with games.

Well and there's always the strategic back and forth that happens. A group of people start to realize "hey, nobody ever uses attack up because it's perceived as useless, I could stack defense up and be unkillable." Then everyone starts doing it, and then people counter that by using attack up, etc.

Though I don't see that happening as long as the unique abilities are just so good like ninja squid.

Maybe, but even then def up lets you survive around 1 more hit than normal even with +3 so def isn't worth it either.

Yeah it's pretty good team support weapon but if you've got more than 1 on the team you might struggle.

Can't watch the video right now, what's the issue with attack up?

Think of it like this.

Every squid has 100 HP.

Your weapon deals 35 damage per hit, so it takes 3 hits to kill.

Attack up adds +6 to your damage, but has diminishing returns. If you stack everything you can, it stops at 49 damage.

If you can't get up to dealing 50 damage, it will still take 3 hits to kill. 49 damage + 49 damage leaves your enemy with 2 HP left, and they still need to be hit one more time.

However this WOULD be useful if they've already taken a little damage, are standing in enemy ink, etc.

Yeah, I just want to second that the guide has tons of useful info on weapons and abilities not explained in the game itself, like what sub abilities the clothing brands are predisposed towards.

I usually dip in and out of games throughout the day rather than long stretches because I like alternating between games often. And since I have no job right now, there is very little structure to the days. Plus Splatoon lends itself to "5 matches and turn off" quite well.

10% is probably idling for many of the games I play aswell because I cant tear myself away from the internet much, especially with actually feeling like a member of a community with SplatGAF (which I am very grateful for).

Hell, MH4U's 300 hours is probably the most accurate time played you'd get from me because of the Clam-Shell design of the system.

one good map one beyond idiotic chokepoint stomp map in the rotation and guess what

>80% of my games are mall

come the fuck on

This weekend will be like this:

Splatfest→ Smash presentation→ Smash DLC→ more Splatoon→ E3

Hope we'll have Splatoon music in Smash DLC or Smash 5.

Is it weird that I want Splat Fests to start just so that Booyah Base gets that swanky nighttime look?

I managed to do it! Max Rank!

I was using a Splat Charger at first, and then the game kindly reminded me I can't Splat Charger, but I can Splatterscope.
-----------------

I think that video was posted earlier, but still, it is a good video that explains a lot about gear abilities.

I just don't think I have it in me to get back up out of C+ hell. I was literally within a hair's breadth of making A- only for every force in the universe to hand me soul crushing defeat after defeat. Solo holding down the fort on Arowana Mall for something like 47 overtime seconds + 50 main seconds, dodging Inkstrikes, assassinating oncoming opposing team members, watching my teammates run into enemy shots like lemmings and doing that about 4 or 5 times in a row in that span of time only to get hit with a regular ass grenade that cause me to explode their ink into the ring for a last second overtime victory was just one of two times where I actively lost the will to keep on, the other being last nights blowout match with Team "Somebody's Gettin' Fucked" headed by BlueSilver the Sniper.
