Splatoon |OT2| Prepare to Dye

Wrapped up the Witcher 3 this weekend and finally got around to paying Splatoon. After not caring for the motion controls in the Test Fire, I've quickly adapted. The multi is great but I'm really surprised by how enjoyable the single player is. At this rate, Monster Hunter 4 is going to have some competition for my favorite game of the year.

Oh yeah, the motion controls.

I started out just playing dual stick all the time every time. Saw some people talking about how awesome the motion control was, how it felt like another analog stick you can use while also pressing buttons, so you can jump while aiming.

I decided to give them another try a few days ago. I had a really hard time adjusting for a while, kind of hated them, but then I got reasonably comfortable with them.

After a bit, I thought I might try to go back to dual sticks because of concerns about possible wrist stiffness or something, playing like that for too long.

Man, I just couldn't go back, it was impossible. It felt SO much worse to try to use the stick to aim after getting used to the motion control.

Does this game have local co-op of any type? Thinking of grabbing a WiiU in the near future.

No. Just a simple 1 vs. 1 local competitive mode where whoever pops the most ballons around the stage wins.

Walls do count for building up your specials. Now watch everyone in your games shoot walls to build up specials.

Unless the test fire range was lying to me.

I'm on the fence about this game.

I love multiplayer games, especially Destiny PVP and Dark Souls.

Would I like this?
The multiplayer is great and very addicting. It's honestly a one of a kind experience that you couldn't find in any other game. I'd highly recommend it. The single player is also pretty good. I'd give the game an 8.5/10 personally. I feel this game was slightly rushed(in both single player and multiplayer) but the core of the game is strong and there are regular updates coming out so the game is going to improve.

Gosh, I'm just going to accept I suck and can't get better. Dropped back down to C+ again. Sigh. I need to start having fun again and just play turf and not be so focused on rank stuff. It's making me dislike this game.

One thing for sure, Ive come to accept im mediocre and can't ever be as good as some folks on here, and that's perfectly fine.

Edit: everyone is capable of getting better. I just don't have the willpower and want to invest myself enough into it to get that good.

I just hit B- so I'm probably not the one to talk, but what sort of loadouts are you using?

Also, I always leave a game after I win or lose.

Just finished the singleplayer... It was very fun, if a bit on the easy side. I felt it took a bit too long to get to the more interesting levels, which I'm fine with usually, but given how short the game is, it was a bit of a let down. Final boss was indeed very good, if a bit too drawn out. It was definitely an intense battle though. The music and sound effects are great, and the fluidity of movement is amazing, sans running and jumping in human form. Personally, for the sequel, I would love larger environments to explore instead of shorter, enclosed spaces. Or at least a mix of the two. Will finally be jumping into multiplayer soon!

I managed to do it! Max Rank!

I was using a Splat Charger at first, and then the game kindly reminded me I can't Splat Charger, but I can Splatterscope.

I think that video was posted earlier, but still, it is a good video that explains a lot about gear abilities.

Congratulations!

I'll get there one day....one day.

Just picked this game up on Saturday night and I'm up to level 18. I seriously regret not picking this game up at launch. It has officially taken over my life.

Walls do count for specials.

I've also seen it said that they don't.

Doesn't special rise on its own slowly so it might seem like they do as you're shooting them?

Or perhaps the people testing this are wearing Tenacity like they should be and it's increasing their special meter?

B rank has become my wall. I keep trying out different weapons and nothing is working. And it's not even because I'm getting bad teams like I was in C rank. This might be where I stay for a long while.

I have a doctors appointment, so I'll be out. But I've been using Squelcher w/ Kraken, Splattershot Jr. w/bubbler, NZAP and Dual Squelcher. I used Aero for 99% of my Turf but never brought it over to Ranked.

As far as clothes, it's been mostly Ink Saver, Special Saver and Squid Ninja as my main perks.

yeah I made it to B- rank and I'm scared to play now because I know the C+ rank is just staring at me like "you can't escape me bitch".

I've accepted i'm ****ing **** at this game, but lord, when I get 3 different teams where we have got down to less than 10 points and then lost it for 100 straight seconds, I feel like my team don't know how to hold a controller properly, let alone a zone.

But I do like Splatzones, so I continue with mediocrity. Maybe i'll see all the other C+ peeps here. :P

Rank. Rank Never Changes.

I was the same too, but don't worry, after going back to the C+ rank a few time, it will get bored of you eventually and let you go :)

Man the competition just gets so hard when you get to B. Lost 3 in a row and I'm barely still B with 10 points, gonna stop for now and hopefully I can get in my groove later and get it closer to B+.

Walls do count for specials.
I don't think so. My brother was actually testing that in then gun test range a few days ago. Completely painted the ground in an area so no splash on the ground would mislead the test and then started painting the walls. Special meter did not increase when he was painting the walls.

My rank has been fluctuating between B- and A. I want to get up to A+, and I would get anxious whenever I was about to lose a level, but I don't really care anymore.

I'm guessing the amount of XP needed to rank up increases with each rank, correct? I know C+ required 100 XP.

My attack plan starting from C- has always been to keep playing Splatoon until I rank up. If after an hour or two that I haven't ranked up, I try to get halfway and then stop for the day.

I get my eight to nine hours of sleep and I git gud

Character design in this game is too just too good.

Inkling girl is just my favorite I think. The combination of "hair" and fangs. Just too adorable.

Use the roller but don't try killing people with rolling. Use it like you would a shotgun in other shooting games. I was stuck on B until I started using the roller. Now I get more than 10 kills per game. Jumping and shooting is really effective with it for covering ground and for killing.

My number 1 question:

What are some tips on how to use the charger? I think the charger is the most dangerous weapon if used effectively.

C+ got bored of me...

...i'm now C. >_<

Hopefully this match change gives me hope! No Mall is Best Mall.

Ok I just had a SO HAWT in ranked. No disconnects, no loses at all. I think it's a miracle or the game wants me back after complaining in the honeymoon thread. lol

No, it's always 100 XP, but the amount of points you get for winning decreases and lose for losing increases as you rank up. I also think points fluctuate depending on if you're on a winning streak/losing streak. When I was B- I only got 8 points for each win, but when I ranked up to B and then ranked back down to B-, I was getting 10 points per win.

Chargers, Rollers, and .52 Gals. These will be the symphonies of destruction for my ranked opponents.

Though I've actually been having decent luck with the Splattershot Pro lately, too. I still just can't fathom why moving up a letter doesn't lock you in place when there are so many uncontrollable factors in the ranking system. RAWR.

Maybe they'll patch that when the next ranked mode gets added (yeah right)

It depends on the rank of the teams, win streak doesn't matter, if one teams collective rank is better than the other you will usually get +8 possibly +6 for a win on this team if you are the team significantly outranked you can get+12, if you lose a match where your team is outranked then you might only get-8 if you lose a match where you were the team with the higher rank you might lose 12

I'm thinking about switching to back to the .52 Deco or trying out the .96 when I go to splat zones, but I've grown to like the dual squelcher for turf wars. How's the dual squelcher in splat zones?

Walls don't count for the special meter and don't count in the testing range either. The ink you were shooting at the wall also covers ground which is probably what was happening to raise your special meter.

Tenacity doesn't come into effect unless you're in a match, so that isn't it either.

I think it is more reliable than the Jet Squelcher at long range. It's range is pretty nice

Anyone knows how the Splatfest will work?

Only the WINNING team at the END of the splatfest will win Super Sea Snails? I didn't find much about it, so I don't know if Nintendo said anything...

Nah, you get Sea Snails based on your performance. If your faction wins I assume you just get more Snails.

Do you just have to run into people to kill yhem with the krakken special, im hopeless with it. Thinking i might be doing something wrong.
