Splatoon still worth buying?

You don't think they could release update/DLC for Splatoon 1 to include what's new?

The same way I didn't need to play Saints Row 4 to realize it's a DLC-turned-full-game.

I mean, I guess they could but if they did that it would make the first splatoon an entirely new game pretty much

which makes sense when you think about it because it's an entirely new game

I just got it recently and really love it. The single player campaign is great and multiplayer is satisfying. I even bought the amiibos for the game. After hearing how great the splatfests were, I kind of regret not getting it sooner last year.

Splatoon 2 is a glorified re-release.

Insert image of talking shit about a game you never played before.

Lol really though I know I know you haven't splatoon, but why assume splatoon 2 is a rerelease ? Is it cause of the games visuals?

Honestly they're using the same engine which is understandable, with how colorful and great looking splatoon 1, how else are you expecting splatoon 2 to look? Grim dark reboot ? There's so many features added in the 2 trailer if you haven't played splatoon 1 yet yeah you'd be blinded sided just like how I am with how CoD multiplayer maps last gen looked same on each new games release

No. It's would just make it a better game with more content.

take it from me, I've put in 1000+ hours into Splatoon

you have no idea what you're talking about

let me know if you'd like me to explain some things for you, I'd be happy to. I have a feeling you're not necessarily posting in good faith tho so I kinda don't want to waste my time.

Hey guys why isn't the latest Call of Duty just DLC stages for the last one, it still has guys with guns in warzones it's basically a glorified rerelease

Yes it should be DLC.

CPR didn't release Blood and Wine as a sequel even if it has more content than many high budget AAA games.

That's how you do it.

Splatoon should've been a platform supported with expansions and yearly major update like R6Siege, overwatch and many well supported games.

This thread got me a little paranoid on how long Nintendo's going to keep the servers up. Splatoon is my favorite Wii U game; but I guess I'm going to have to unload it in the near future, while it's still worth something.

I played it recently and had no problems finding matches.

it's funny because some people were already speculating that it would be a sequel based on like 30 seconds of footage from the original switch reveal back in october

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=1297121

basically if you have eyeballs and know anything about the first splatoon you know the "not sequel enough!" claims are beyond stupid. I mean, there ain't no two ways about it.

splatoon was supported with free content for quite a while and I assume the sequel will be as well

your thinly veiled trolling is getting annoying

Then your complaint is with industry wide practices, not this game. Make a thread, don't go into individual game threads to complain sequels are 'not sequelly enough'.

I hope it's worth it! I just traded a ton of crap and bought a copy last week. Seems like it's hard to find a match at certain times of the day, and really easy at others. Not having split-screen online play is a real bummer though.

I don't enjoy Call of Duty, but each release has plenty of content to justify a new game each time...not to mention they all are made by completely different development teams, have entirely new campaigns every time, new modes, and all new maps. Sure they share assets, but guess what...Nintendo likely shares assets among all of its games.

Even if they did treat the original game as a service model to release new maps and single player content, you'd still need a new boxed release considering that the Switch is a new platform. So what is it that you are mad about, exactly?

My Fiancé plays every day. No issues at all getting matches. It's also one of the best games Nintendo has ever made. I say WORTH it!

One could have hoped for crossplay

How do you think that would work? I haven't played a ton of Splatoon, but just from the trailer I saw new maps, new weapons, and a new roll ability. They've also said they're adding new outfit options, as well as possibly adding something to replace Miiverse. At minimum they'd have to release a rather substantial update for Splatoon to make that work.

well the short answer is it wouldn't work

that's probably the long answer too lol

even if they got Wii U and Switch to connect what are you supposed to do? you play an old map, I play a new map, and then we compare notes afterward?

The online community will collapse in summer once Splatoon 2 comes out. The hardcore Splatoon base that's still sustaining the community is likely to be early adopters for Splatoon 2, unless Nintendo lays a real egg or something (and indications aren't showing that).

That's the answer I was trying to lead them to lol.

I would generally agree but I see many <Level 20 players around still. Seems some Wii U owners are still jumping in.

I bought a used copy for 35 dollars and am having a blast. There is still a very active online community and don't regret my purchase at all.

This is an absolutely absurd necrobump (creating a new topic would have been arguably more absurd), but has anybody tried to play original Splatoon online lately?

I can't get into any matches. It confirms I'm connected, searches for matches, but then fails with a communication error. 100% of the time.

MK8 and Black Ops 2 are still working fine (114 players online BO2 lol).

Do you enjoy being destroyed by Japanese players?

It's a really cool game and one of the few I braved online, till I stalled out at B+ level.

I played maybe like a month ago and was still finding players easily, it took like maybe a little more than twice as long to fill the 8 slots than what I remember, I'll check later today if I can still find players
BTW it was on turf wars, I haven't tried ranked in years

I had the chance to rediscover this title when I got a Wii U, the one thing I wasn't expecting was only being able to use the Gamepad with screen for a controller, I was unable to use the Pro controller with it. At first I gave it a shot, but every match I kept wondering, why can't I use the Pro controller? After a hearty amount of sessions, my hands finally threw in the towel and I have passed the game along. Keep that in mind when diving in.

Just noticed that this a necro-bump, I had no problems finding players online when playing after 8:30-9pm on the west coast.

Yeah, I finally played it last year (2018.) I was expecting to just go through single player stuff and for online to be basically dead, but I had a great time playing multiplayer, it was quite active. After a few months I had to tear myself away and get back to working through my backlog, but it was very much alive. Hopefully Splatoon 2 will be too, when I get around to it in 2023.
