Splinter Cell Chaos Theory - Open Beta Multiplayer

cant wait to hear some impressions.... and yeah, voice chat would ad greatly to the expeirence i would think

I'm no longer a FP subscriber so I have to wait a few hours (about an hour before the DL starts and then around two hours for the file to finish) before it's done downloading.

Anyone going to be playing later on tonight? :)

Wow the lowest wait is 40 minutes on top of the download.
Time to throw down a cup of coffee!

But the multiplayer doesn't have the singleplayer's visuals, right? Because the gorgeous visuals are pretty much the only thing that I adore in Splinter Cell 3. I played the multiplayer demo of the second and it was cool, but not overwhelming.

Got the beta...the wait for the download went extremely quick and was not the time it initially listed. Took about 30 minutes to download on DSL. :)

Despite having no joypad options, I'm impressed with the controls. I'm not even using a mouse (using my laptop's touchpad), and it plays great.

I'll probably still end up getting the Xbox version instead, but this trial seems great for now. You have to complete an offline single player trial mission before you can go online, BTW.

downloaded it and installed. But when i open it when it passes the the versus beta screen in the middle it seems like its trying to open but just quits out to my desktop. anyone else having this problem? i believe my drivers are updated so thats not the problem.

I played it today in break during class, good fun. I haven't spent enough time with it so I don't have any "OH HOLY SHIT" type responses, everything was pretty expected.

Just played some matches online. They have a new stage (Japanese Garden) and the Museum from Pandora Tomorrow available. Don't know if the Museum is the same stage; I only played the garden. Control is great, and you can talk with F5 for everyone to read and F6 for team say. Works fine even in tight situations. Microphones are also supported.

I sold off PT for Xbox months back; really missed this game. :)

I did get kick from the server several times for no reason, but I guess that's why this is a beta test.

any mirrors?

You have to get the CD key from Fileplanet even if you download it elsewhere.

Is that trial mission using the single-player mode's engine, or the slightly updated Pandora Tomorrow engine of the multi-player mode? And what does this mission entail?

my graphics didn't look so hot and updating my drivers didn;t help. i have a 9800pro and i know this game has better graphics then what ive seen. the lighting and bump bamping don't work. ughhhh!!!!!

The multiplayer engine is the same as in Pandora Tomorrow (to keep it fluid). It's the singleplayer part that has all the normal mapping and stuff.

The tutorials use the multiplayer engine. No fancy bumpmapping or normal mapping here.

I can't get the stealth suit to work.....anybody know how? When I select it, the screen says "Press Action to Activate Stealth Suit". But when I press action, my character just tosses a smoke grenade? Huh?

Siamese Dreamer, I'm not sure what you mean by "things for spies to hack." If you just mean PC consoles, yeah. :) I didn't get the SC PT updates on Live so I don't know about extras, and didn't even know there were new weapons to try in multiplayer, since I went with the default set up! I'll have to check on that.

The multi player mode is using the same graphics engine as Pandora Tomorrow. It is being developed by Ubisoft Shanghai IIRC, so there's two different teams working on the game...the original SC team is doing the single player mode with the new graphics engine, and the people that made PT are doingthe multiplayer game.

The training mission is just to make sure you get how the controls work as a Spy. It only takes a few minutes to complete.

Border: Stealth suit?! Time to load this sucker up now! :)

It's because "quick use" is having priority over everything else. Put your suit on a quick use slot or let the menu open when you choose to activate your suit.

How is the Japenese Garden map?
the map is great. very stylish, very large, but probably not as big as the mall.
Are there things for the spies to hack like in the River Mall map?
there are at least 3 different hackable terminals that can significantly alter the routes spies take through the level. fun stuff.
How do the new gadgets play?
i haven't had much time to play around with the new gadgets, but the ability to reuse cameras and mines is incredibly useful. as is the spies' predator-style camo. anything that encourages more stealth is a good thing. i also like the new moves, particularly the one where a spy hanging off a railing can vault up and throw a nearby merc off the ledge, immediately breaking his neck.

i'm not so sure about the camera system the mercs get access to (it's *very* easy for them to get a quick overview of important areas of the map, at little risk to themselves,) but i haven't played in enough real games to know how effective it is in practice.

Mercs can reuse mines? I'm not sure about that idea. Seems really cheap. Half the time I use up my first two lives just trying to take out mines.

Please explain this camera system a little better and the hacks the spies get.

Yeah I've had the Closed Beta since the first day. The multiplayer just runs on a slightly modified Pandora Tomorrow engine.

But, some of the additions to Chaos Theory are nice. I find the Shotgun to be quite useful. You should also note that Museum from PT is back, and slightly redesigned. I took some screens a while back if you guys want them.

Toymachine, that'd be cool if you would post them.

I hate Museum because it forces the spies through one area and its too easy for mercs who know what they are doing to control them.

(I thought the first beta release was just the first level in the single player?)

what i mean is that they can reuse mines that haven't exploded. spies can reuse spycams, as long as they're in an accessible location. i *think* they they can even recover cams that have expelled the gas, but i'll hve to test that.
Please explain this camera system a little better and the hacks the spies get.
in each level, there are extra cameras that are deactivated by default. they're always highly visible to any wandering spy. now, if a merc has the proper item chosen, they're able to patch into this camera network at any time, from any place on the map. all they have to do is select the item, and they're taken to the camera's view. once they're patched in, the camera lights up so that the spy knows it's active. but! i don't think they have any defense against it. shocking the camera doesn't do anything. haven't tried a chaff grenade yet..

as for the level specific hacks, there is one area with a glass roof. hacking a panel opens it up, making it easier for spies to infiltrate the area. there are also panels that overload the circuits of nearby electrical boxes. the boxes explode, damaging ceiling panels all through the map, providing easy access to the rafters.

All right, here's some of the screens...Not the greatest, but here they are anyway.
