Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory

Ugh, which means pay-to-play. Love co-op but I hate being nickle and dimed for buggy&unfinished games. Guess I'll have to wait til it drops in price to make up for the DLC cost.

Ubisoft released tons of maps for Rainbow Six 3 at no charge. Again, this is Ubisoft, not Bungie. But on the other hand, they did release two maps for SC:PT that were $5.00 (total, not each) but then those maps were free on the OXM discs shortly after. The only reason Ubi didn't put out more maps for PT is because they immediately put work into Chaos Theory.

So in short, I don't think they're going to milk the hell out of it. If they're anything like before, we'll surely see some free maps. Besides, there's already a ton of them right off the bat. AND a few of them are returning favorites. SEE BUNGIE? Its' not that hard to please your fans! Ubisoft does it like it ain't no thang.

Finally got a chance to sit down and really play this game despite having had it since Tuesday. Was able to breeze through the first mission so I went back and put the difficulty on expert. Been having an absolute blast. Just got to Mission 4 and I'm really curious as to where this is all going. Mission 3 was just awesome and had several moments that I was just laughing at what was being said and how things were being handled. They definately added alot more humour into the game.

Not relying too heavily on the gadgets.. but they came in handy a couple of times during Mission 2 while trying to interrogate a few key people for added story elements. Also, I am digging the 'hacking' thing that you can do now. Its very simply and seems highly unrealistic, but its a fun twist on some of the computer sections, and it also lets the game be a lot less restrictive in who you knock out and when.

Good times.. can't wait to try out co-op or multiplayer.

I picked the game up Friday night, when I went and saw Sin City...For the first time. I saw it a second time last night. Anyway, it's good stuff. Co-Op is awesome, although I think it would benefit from some sort of map, or icon above your partners head in case you lose him.

And Spies Vs Mercenaries is just as good as ever. I don't really like the steal the hard drive thing, but that's all right. It's just good clean fun. It's a nice break from Halo 2...It's always just clean fun, without any trash talking, or cheating.

co-op is gold, multiplayer = Pandora tomorrow with new maps and new fixes... (too bad they didn't design it in the chaos theory engine :< )

Wait wait wait.... The Vs. mode is still using the old engine? Damnit.. I was looking forward to seeing the few maps I knew from Pandora Tomorrow in the new engine..

At first there should not have been any VS mode in Chaos Theory. The Ubisoft team at Annecy was working on a map expansion pack for Pandora Tomorrow. A few months later Ubisoft decided that a VS mode would have been missed a lot in CT so this map pack was included in the game, with lots of improvements. It was too late to redesign everything for the new engine though.
That's what I heard at least.

Blim ... you know if SC4 will be work from both shanghai and montreal teams? done on the same engine but a ton of Single player/ multi maps? or what :)

I'll have to ask for confirmation, but I think the french Annecy team is the one behind that one, at least partially. I know they have Xenon dev kits since a loooong time at least. My contact there quit his job so I'm not as informed as before.

ok, ive really sat down and played this game alot more thoroughly and damn....this game is too good. (speaking of single player) Wow....i havent had this much fun in a long time. ive been trying to play super stealth without killing anyone....and its alot more challenging but fun that way...and im always tryna grab someone hoping Sam will interrogate him because the assholic shit Sam says in this game at times are funny as hell. in fact....thats one of the best things in this game.....Sams dialog. Good job ubisoft for making this game funny as hell sometimes when im realy tense from trying to not get caught....puts me at Ease.

One thing I always do when interrogating is after the guy im interrogating says everything and he starts to repeat shit....i let him talk and as he talks THEN choke him.....ahhh..Great stuff. Nothing like owning someone as they beg for thier life.....

Also, something I found interesting is how you cant grab someone from behind thats sitting in the chair if your crouched but you can if you're standing up......only way to grab them crouched is from an angle.....which is unlike the previous SCs where you could grab them crouched....i thought that was pretty cool....adding to the realism.

I played probably One Co-Op and it was pretty damn sweet and fun.....but I really dont wanna get into the online stuff till i finish single player.

My only complaints so far is the I miss zooming with the Rifle....and I miss the Infra red Beams on the Weapons as well....those were cool features in SC...and I have no idea why they were taken out.

Also, the hacking sometimes feels cheap because there have been a few times where only 3 numbers will light up but the 4th one im waiting for NEVER lights up and an alarm goes off. wtf?

but so far...its in the high 90s for me...excellent fucking game.

Sorry if this has been asked already, but is there any way to save Morgenholt(sp?), the guy who's being tortured in the first level?

Most of the time you can grab them while crouched and it's fairly easy. The only problem is that you have to get extremely close from both directly behind or from an angle. The Rifle zoom is still in there, just click the right stick and remember to hold down the left trigger to hold your breath and steady your aim.

I finally managed to get 100% on the
Hokkaido level. Man that was really fucking insane, unlike most of the other levels I was forced to use my weaponry (the only other level would be Seoul, South Korea) and the ending scene was quite difficult to pull off without any detections and kills. If you're planning on getting 100% on this level you absolutely must choose the Stealth load out option, I can't fathom beating it without those sticky shockers, etc.
So far I've managed to get a complete 100% on every level with the exception of the last one since I haven't attempted it yet. Having the game grade you on your skills is bringing a fantastic amount of replayability to the series.

I also finally played online and working with a teammate is an absolute blast. With the inclusion of two players you can probably kiss your 100% rating goodbye, ha ha. For some reason when I’m playing with a friend I’m more inclined to take a more direct approach than my usual ghosting ways. Co-op was such a fantastic addition and the tweaks to the Versus mode make the game even more enjoyable than the last round.

no....not the zoom mode..i meant zooming while in Zoom mode is gone.

in the other splinter cells...you go into zoom mode and you can zoom in 1 or 2 more times from what i remember...in this...you just go into a zoom mode with a slight zoom.

peace

Anyone knows what the lights are for on the SC PISTOL when you click the left trigger while aiming with it?

Right now I'm at the bank level and I'm of course having a blast with the game. I haven't been online yet.

If it's what I think it is, aim it at any electronic device and watch it short out. Green = success, red = didn't work.

I'm almost done with the game I think, once again I'm not too fond of the second half of the game but, overall it is the best splinter cell game released so far though.

My bro and I have played co-op now four times. Everytime we play its a blast.

I have run into the framerate issues people have mentioned - but thankfully the game hasn't disconnected us like before. This game's online mode is infinitely more enjoyable than anything else on Live.

This is my biggest complaint feature wise :(

I can't get over how much of an equalizer the Mercs' new spin move is in the vs. mode. I've gotten out of a ton of sticky situations that would have been impossible to survive in PT. In fact, I've started just sneaking up behind spies and knocking them down with the move instead of just shooting at them. And then the kill move you can do while they are on the floor is fucking awesome. Its good that the mercs can finally talk some shit. :lol

The charge is alot better than it was in Pandora Tomorrow. It always knocks down now, I'd call it more useful than the spin because it doesnt seem to disorient you for as long. The bounce off of walls recovery time seems to have been shortened too.

Ok, last level... that Japan ISDF or whatever one.

I am at the part where I go into that server room with those two motion sensor cameras doing complete 360's around the whole room. Inside is a computer and a retinal scanner.

My problem... when I go to hack the scanner... it only gives me 2 locks as opposed to the regular 4... which makes no sense.

Was I supposed to keep those guards conscious prior to going into the server room to use them as eyes?

Because I didn't know what, how was I supposed to know that. I really don't want to have to redo the whole stupid mission over... again! Because this already happened to me with the first retinal scanner to the server part anyways, I had to redo it just to get a guy alive and make him open it... and the damn hacking only gave me two locks... wtf?

I went to Blockbuster yesterday with the intention of renting Doom 3 so I could see what it looks like on my Xbox compared to my PC, but they were out and I reluctantly picked up Chaos Theory instead. When I say reluctantly, I mean that I was so disappointed with Pandora Tomorrow that I thought for sure I wouldn't like Chaos Theory. Even after playing the OXM demo I just wasn't interested.

So I came home and begrudgingly began the lighthouse level: Meh. Then came the cargo ship: Hmm.... Then came the bank heist: Holy shit! Then my friend and I played a little co-op and I've been hooked ever since. What a great f'n game! I can't believe what an improvement this is over Pandora Tomorrow. I gotta go buy this now.

I should be getting my copy of CT soon. :D I've been practicing Pandora Tomorrow online. I haven't played it since the patch and the two new levels. Awesome stuff... the bank level rules.

I have to dissent with the seeming majority here on Splinter Cell's online co-op. Trasher (from GAF) and I took it for a spin last night. We got disconnected on the mission after training, and then would've had to go back and redo the training again, as we couldnt select the mission we had just began.

The frame rate at the beginning of the mission (the first "real" one) dipped so low and the game's performance just sagged so hard. We'll give the whole thing another shot tonight. But the interaction interface, go to point X press black button, press A, partner press black or A (can't remember) like the rest of Splinter Cell's controls is a little counter-intuitive.

I loved Pandora Tomorrow's multiplayer, so I expect to spend some serious time in Chaos Theory at some point, but the Co-op was completely underwhelming and didn't perform as well as I'd hoped.

Your connection speed is integral to your performance in co-op. Whoever was hosting the game might have had terrible upload speeds. I also reccomend saving the game whenever you can.

They need to release a patch ASAP, slowing the game down to account for a shitty connection isn't fun.

5MB down and 1 MB up should be more than fine to sustain a gaming connection, I'd think :-/

I hope they patch it soon though. It seems like they should've set up the network system a little differently since the connection between consoles is so important in this instance.

Is it just me, or did they change Lambert's voice actor back to the guy who originally did the voice? I know in PT they had Dennis Haysbert doing Lambert's voice, but that doesn't sound like Haysbert to me in CT.

Yes, but the IMDB is not always right. I forgot to look when the credits were rolling the other night. I'm 99% sure it's not Haysbert.

Locking the numbers is just an option. Just choose the right combination of numbers yourself without locking the numbers or lock the most numbers you can. You may not have enough locks to make a hack easily but EVERY numbers will highlight at least one time so you can deduct what is the combination and choose it in the list.
