Lossless on Spotify Premium is here.

Lossless audio has been one of the most anticipated features on Spotify and now, finally, it's started rolling out to Premium listeners in select markets. Premium subscribers will receive a notification in Spotify once Lossless becomes available to them. Whether you're diving into a new album or revisiting old favorites, lossless delivers the highest music audio quality on Spotify.

"The wait is finally over; we're so excited lossless sound is rolling out to Premium subscribers," saidGustav Gyllenhammar, VP Subscriptions,Spotify. "We've taken time to build this feature in a way that prioritizes quality, ease of use, and clarity at every step, so you always know what's happening under the hood. With Lossless, our premium users will now have an even better listening experience."

Lossless is part of our commitment to continually improve Spotify Premium so fans can discover and enjoy the music they love. This highly requested feature takes your Premium experience to the next level. Together with popular features like DJ, Jam, AI Playlist, brand-new Mix, and daylist, as well as playlists curated by our leading global music editorial team, the world's most popular audio streaming subscription service continues to get better.

With Lossless, you can now stream tracks in up to 24-bit/44.1 kHz FLAC, unlocking greater detail across nearly every song available on Spotify. So you can enjoy new releases and your favorite tracks, in the highest quality, while being immersed in the music.

Finally, but now it's too late, at least for me. I canceled my subscription a while ago and moved on to other services because of the lack of lossless audio. These days I'm using Qobuz, really enjoying it, and I'll be sticking with it for quite a while.

Billie Eilish must be dead by now, it really has been a while.

Do they offer gapless playback?

Does it sound better than the app i use to turn yt videos into lossmore mp3?

This is exactly what I do, and I'm baffled why people are still using Spotify, throwing money away month after month. Even funnier when you see a YouTube comment saying, "I wish this was on Spotify".

I have this old DAC and it makes a major difference.

I have a B&W 805D with marantz pm8005 and a marants HD-DAC1. Sennheiser HD800S + fiio k9 pro ess dac. With both of those setups trying to judge quality after 320kbs becomes impossibe for me or for the friends I've listened with. Even on showroom setups (expensive) I've tried listening differences and just cant hear it. And my hearing is good and I am not tone deaf. I have come to the conclusion that its more a placebo then anything. They do sell 3000$ 2 meter audio cables for morons too.

That is nice, but I want to see how it sounds. I like my FLAC files on my local host. I still prefer CDs really.

for me it depends on the type of music and how it's mixed, there are definitely diminishing returns though.

Currently have spotify and tidal, will probably get rid of tidal when spotify lossless arrives. Prefer the spotify UI and it seems to have more choice.

On my LMS/Pi rigs I dont get the full fat lossless through tidal, I only get full fat on my main system (Lyngdorf streaming amp). Hopefully spotify lossless works fully on my LMS / pi rigs, which I use more frequently as its at my work desk.

Yep. And I think Qobuz's interface is pretty cool too, better than the other music streaming platforms I've tried. I'm enjoying it. Before that I subscribed to Tidal to see how it was, the interface is nice and it's easier to find some songs, but for some reason the PC app has an audio bug where the volume keeps changing automatically depending on the track quality. It was really annoying. I tried everything to fix it, even contacted support, but nothing worked.

Spotify, hah. I've been using Tidal, not just because they offer lossless (HiFi/Hi-Res) streaming, but because they also support stem-separation AKA Neural Mix that I use to isolate or tweak vocals, bass, drums and other elements on many tracks, depending on how the song was mastered. I'm a shit DJ, but all my friends and family is always asking me to bring the boom to BBQ's, Birthday Parties, Weddings, etc because I do some insane mixes with that amount of control. I can even slow music down without effecting the pitch. Jesus it's fun!! I've done shit like, turn the Don't worry be Happy song into a sad depressing one using a Jazz blues instrumental, & Bob Marley's Get up stand up into what amounts to a death metal joint. :messenger_beaming:

Would I notice a difference if I'm using Bluetooth headphones? You're limited to bluetooth codec quality at that point, right?
Depends on the Bluetooth headphones and device. If you're on Android, anything with LDAC will take advantage of the higher sound quality as LDAC can do around 900kbps (yeah not fully lossless, but it's still a meaningful upgrade). I think iOS is out of luck unless you do USB-C.

I've been using Apple Music for the last month and Amazon Music before that and lossless+LDAC on my Sony XM5's absolutely make a difference. I MIGHT try Spotify again with this, but honestly Apple Music is pretty good (Amazon Music is complete garbage in the UI department).

Can you even utilize this via streaming? Streaming 4K movies have lower bitrate than a 1080p blue ray but maybe due to no video it works?

Yippee....cant hear the difference. I dont know what kind of ears you need to hear the difference.
Younger than the age of 30 ears

And better equipment than iPhones and AirPods which don't even support lossless audio for transport over Bluetooth

You need to use actual headphone jacks with a wired connection or Android phones and headphones which support LDAC to transport lossless audio over Bluetooth

45...Yea I know what to use. Still cant hear it. Congrats to those who can. Just did a hearing test at work and I have a better hearing the most of my age...so. Who knows.

If you want to test if you can hear a difference or not then this old test page from NPR is a good place to start as it has samples for 128kbps, 320kbps and Uncompressed WAV for a bunch of songs.

Got 5/6. Still I actually had to listen a couple of times each one to choose. So not a clear cut for me.

Huh, theres an audio normalization option in Tidal settings, I always turn that off. It turns itself after updates sometimes. This may be the bug.

I would want to try Qobuz but its unavailable in my country.

Welp. Coming here to eat my own words. Now that I have listened Spotify lossless on home there is a distinct difference how it sounds compared to the 320kbs version. The best I can describe the difference is that some of the songs sound more airy. I have a familiar playlist I have become accustomed to the test new hifi equipment on for years.

Yeah I too could immediately tell a difference in clarity. And it suggests only to use it connected to wifi, but I've it on in my car driving around and it still sounds better.

Spotify lossless is great but they don't offer bitperfect streaming right now, it still goes through the Windows mixer, but maybe they will improve that in the near future.
Also it's nice you don't have to pay a good amount of more money to have lossless (for now)
